Genesis Smart Key Card

I was wondering if any of the ultimate trim owners got the Smart Key card instead of the key fob? I am referring to this:

Would it be difficult to laser cut and program the key for my Genesis? Any possible complications?

Any owners that can provide feedback? It just looks so bada$$ that I want to own one.

The ultimate V8 in Canada comes with this. I know I love mine as no more stinkin fob although it also comes with 2 standard fobs. It sits in my wallet all the time so basically I cannot forget my wallet any more and do not sit on a key fob all day long.

I was wondering, is the card merely a card? Are there no lock/unlock buttons like a fob? Is it really slim enough to put in a wallet? It's hard to tell from pictures because all the photos on the web are from the same angle.

No buttons whatsoever however it still is able to have a pull out emergency key built into it. Thickness is about the same as a nickel. I find this really well designed as why in the world would you want to pull this out of your wallet to operate buttons to unlock the door when you can push the button on the door to achieve the same thing? You are right. I barely ever use the buttons on the FOB as well.. except when my wife is walking ahead of me and would reach the car before I would I was a little smug when my buddy with his beemer didn't have the door button option to unlock the car Infact, he'd never heard of the feature hehe.

I was just curios what the other side of the key card looked like. Thanks for the image!

Click on the link I posted above and scroll down a little for top side pictures. I believe the Key card was first introduced around 2006 on the Benz S series. I know it's also available on Lexus and Mazda that I know of.

I just called Hyundai motoring of America and spoke with a representative. After researching, there is nothing listed for the smart key card to come with the car and the U.S. 2015 Genesis comes with two key fobs.
I also asked why the U.S. Genesis comes with the wing emblem on the front/H on the rear/as opposed to two wing emblems and the representative advised that is how the car is designated for the U.S. market.

I too asked HMA and they stated that the Smart Key is not an option for the US cars. Bummer.

I keep my fob clipped to my backpack and thus when I leave car must always take full - heavy - backpack or unclip the key to go with the only other thing I take: my iPhone in a case that looks like a little leather Hamlet and has slots for credit cards - aside from paying with phone. Add one of these and I could just take case and go! Although I assume I'd have to NOT have fob even for spare as otherwise leaving it in car would ensure car could NOT be locked!?

A while ago I had asked my dealership if they can engineer the smart card key that I would bring to the dealership. The answer was no. They simply didn't know how to do it, which I hardly believe. However, it is reasonable answer since it is not included in US model at all.

That's strange. It should not be very different from programming and cutting te key of a new FOB (in say, the event that you'd lost one).

It is the same size as standard credit card as it fits in the credit card slot of a wallet no problem. The only difference is it's about as thick as a nickel.

The Hyundai dealership in Garden Grove, Ca sells the cards for $600 which includes programming. They also said they'd program a smart card purchased else ware for $55.

I seriously thinking about getting the card from eBay now.

Hyundai Motoring of America representative recommended on the telephone to stay away from these key cards since it did not come with the vehicle.

It is BS. It is a marketing guy that isn't knowledgeable.

I would be very surprised if the key card didn't work.

A key fob costs $161 online. I would think a key card should be about the same, but it is more. I assume the eBay unit has additional markup in it.

I think we should look at a group purchase of the key card, if there is enough interest. I bet we could get a much better price. If anyone is interested, please let me know.
