  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Super Bowl commercial

It's not a Lincoln McConaughey commercial and I couldn't give 2 turds about the Bluelink rip off but it was funny and when my friends see this they going to be like "oohhh crap* that's my boys car!" Lol

I think the Hyundai Genesis had already been designated as the official luxury car of SB 50, which meant Hyundai was already committed before the decision to create the new brand, and the 2016 model is still a Hyundai. Hyundai probably supplied 100 cars to the organizing committee and the NFL, when the game was in San Diego, Buick was the official vehicle, just after the game there was huge sale on those cars, big discount and designation as an official vehicle.

I really like Kevin Hart, and as a Dad of four daughters, I loved the commercial.

I just saw on the news that the Genesis spot was ranked #1 of the Super Bowl Commercials, so from Hyundai's perspective it was 5 Million Dollars well spent

Considering the Genesis is a virtual unknown in my neck of the woods, I was quite pleased to see a quality commercial showing off the car.

Too bad it was actually misleading on the car finder functionality - as was the spot for remote start that gave the impression of immediate starting when it can actually take a few minutes for the command to go through and it fails sometimes (so the bears would have likely eaten that guy :)).

They also just reinforced that the Genesis is a Hyundai right when they are trying to distance themselves from that direct association by creating Genesis Motors. Not smart marketing, imho.

My personal view on this is the entire lineup of Super Bowl commercials was so poor the Hyundai one managed first place. This has to be the worst first place in Super Bowl history.

I've thought the commercials have been subpar the past few years, this year was no exception.

At least I can remind the dealer my car was the official vehicle of Super Bowl 50 when I trade it in...

...by USA Today. Did not see a winning mention of it on other programs or sites.

Funny, but not in the league of memorable past SB ads and really a Hyundai ad not a Genesis ad.

Most car commercials are misleading, to one degree or other. They are designed to spark an interest, not be an owners manual. Probably wouldn't have been that funny if bears had eaten the guy.

Hyundai isn't trying to distance the Genesis any more than Toyota and Lexus or Infiniti and Nissan. The idea is to have a luxury brand above the everyman's brand. Lots of people have Hyundais and like them. They are well made, attractive and priced to be available to average people, great warranties are a plus. A luxury brand embodies all those qualities and adds the lux factor for significantly more money.

There is no need to "distance" from Hyundai or try to make people think the luxury brand isn't made by Hyundai.

Very smart marketing, IMHO.

What a waste of a Super amount of money and a much larger missed opportunity. All the find care thing sounded like was a stupid gimmick and did not really emphasize what i find to be the important values the Genesis brings to the market. Hyundai should have their marketing people on the same level as the designers of the car.

I think they are trying to distance themselves - not deny it's a Hyundai, just make it not so obvious. Hyundai doesn't have as good a reputation as Toyota or Nissan did - they are broadly perceived as cheap by most people. I still get a lot of ribbing that my car is a Hyundai and I spent so much on it.

In any event, it's pretty dumb marketing to talk up the Hyundai Genesis when you've already announced it's shortly becoming the G80 - talk about confusing your potential customers! In my opinion, you'd actually be crazy to buy a 2016 at this point unless you really could not wait - so maybe they're just trying to move that inventory to unsuspecting customers.

My point on the commercials is that owners will ultimately be let down with their expectations when they learn how those features actually work (esp. the find car function). I wasn't sugesting that they should show the bear eating the guy (even though the remote start function out in the woods might be pretty spotty).
