  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey team, I am cross shopping a 2016 Hyundai Genesis v8 Ultimate w/ a 2016 Kia k900 v8 w/ Ultimate pckg.

Here is what I've gathered to be the differences:

Kia K900:
-No LKAS like the genesis (massive let down)
-No high beam assist like Genesis (massive let down)
-Better looking shift knob (subjective opinion)
-Better ambient lighting at night
-12" LCD instrument cluster
-Quilted white leather interior is nicer (subjective opinion)
-Has wallet key and for 2016, got smart trunk like the Hyundai
-Also in 2016 K900 got it's version of Hyundai bluelink which is something I would use to pre-heat or cool the cabin
-soft auto close doors (surprisingly useful on many occasions when I owned a 2015)
-Memory seat on the passenger side (I don't think genesis has this)

Here are my questions because I have not driven a genesis yet:
-The k900 does not let me stick my hand in the door handle cup & auto unlock the doors. I have to press a button to unlock the door. (first world problem) My Lexus IS250 let's me just grab the handle, pull, and go. Much easier. Does the genesis allow this like the Lexus IS250?

-To circumnavigate the issue, I could buy a k5store canbus module that allows the k900 to auto-unlock the doors when it senses my approaching (mirrors fold out) & also auto-lock when I walk away from the car... Does the genesis have a module we can buy aftermarket that allows this?

-The K900 has what's called privacy room. And it is something I loved on my old K900 (2015) Say you open the rear passenger door on the driver side, only the rear passenger side overhead LED shines down to illuminate the seat. It's a projector style, meaning it doesn't scatter light all over the place like most all cars do. And it's very very elegant. It does this for all doors/seats. One of the nicest things I tell ya especially when I have passengers sleeping. Does the Hyundai Genesis have this? Here is an example photo (although it really doesn't do it justice)

-Does the Genesis have soft auto close doors? This is when the door isn't fully shut by the passenger or driver a motor will grab it and bring it in.

-Does the auto high beam work well or is it as delayed as it was in my Range Rover Evoque? Meaning on rare occasion it wouldn't recognize a car coming And on about a quarter of the time it would turn off the high beam a bit late compared to a human doing it.

-Can the shift knob be swapped for a K900 shift knob (or other aftermarket ones?)

-Is your LKAS system able to be hacked by openpilot? If so, I think that will be the deciding factor for me to get the genesis. Especially if you guys have a module that will allow the doors to auto-unlock upon approach. Here is info on Open Pilot.

Thank you in advance if you have read this far.

No soft close doors
No privacy room
auto high beam works well to lower the light, in some circumstances take too long to go back up. OK on the highway
Allegedly Open Pilot will work

Yes, you have to push a button to unlock the door. It can be done in one motion. Over time though, you will build up a callous on your thumb so it will be less painful. You can even attend a Genesis training seminar and they demonstrate different door opening practices and you can participate "hands on" so to speak. .

Great to hear the feedback! Thank you EdP!

Forgot to mention. . . .there us a thread about open pilot but I don't think anyone has installed it yet.

I dont think there is 2016 Genesis V8 in the US. But, if there is, check the headlights.
Headlights in our 2015 Genesis V8 ultimate was quite disappointing. They are not adaptive unlike the first generation genesis. And frankly, the light is not really adequate. We had to turn on the fog lights to help with the visibility. I believe K900 has adaptive LED headlights. Thats a big plus in our checklist.

Also, 17 speakers in the genesis ultimate are not as good as the first generation either.

I also believe the K900 has 360 surround camera to assist with parking. Another plus.

OP, is there any reason you're eliminating the 2016 Hyundai Equus Ultimate from your shopping list? Some great bargains to be had.

Just not attracted to it

All the brochures online say that the genesis has adaptive headlights. I wonder if yours aren't working?

Not in the 2015 Genesis "US" version. Genesis tweaked the headlights function for certain markets. Check out the headlights on the genesis you are going to see, just to be sure.

The Genesis headlights in the US do have adaptive highbeams, but do not swivel left or right when cornering. The brochures may be referring to the adaptive highbeams as adaptive headlights, or they may be from another country that does get the adaptive headlights when cornering.

2018 and newer do.

for me the k900 was too big of a car.
it had more amenities than the genesis sedan or g80 if you will. In my opinion the k900 is a great car but it should be compared to the g90 as far as options and commodities go. They are around the same size. It would be a great car if you have people in your backseat a lot.
I'm 6ft9 and I had the drivers seat all the way back and I still fit in the rear seats comfortably.

Did you make a decision? OP on the Genesis is GREAT!! Might work on a K900....just don't know....

I ended up going with a genesis.
2015 geny with the ultimate package, and 5.0 liter.

Awesome! I have a 2015 as well...Tech package I think. At any rate have you looked at OP for it? It works GREAT!! Also the connectors to install are easy to get. Head over to discord for more info! You can find me there as 1984Jeeper and I will share the info I have.
