  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis vs CTS coming from MB

Yeah, I'm guilty of mixing and matching models; thanks for clearing that up! Either way that front end looks sweet with the DRLs

NOT directed at you Aqui.... but it seems many on this forum think that a VSport is the same vehicle as the V. For the guys who did'nt know.. these are 2 different cars. CTS-V is the top end deal.. CTS-VSport is the "2nd tier" top end deal.. then comes the regular CTS 3.6 and 2.0.

Gaggan, if you just drive around point a to b and like to look around your interior.. I would get a Genesis or a CTS 2.0 over a VSport or 550i etc..

If you like to REALLY DRIVE.. then the Genesis, 3.8 or 5.0, is just not really in the same category as the VSport IMO. The VSport is better than almost anything out there except the new V and top end competitors. I think you can get a really GOOD DEAL if you carefully plan it out since the CTS are not selling well.

Do an experiment and register in the Caddy forums.. go into the VSport section and ask those guys.. "Why don't you guys trade your VSport for a Genesis ?? "

Please watch this vid below and listen to what Carlitos is trying to say where this car is positioned. There is just much more to the story than these little feature things people nitpick about.

Ignition V-Sport with Carlos Lago

I do like to enjoy my drive.
May be I should try the Vsport.
Like I mentioned before, the interior quality, space and price are not in its favor.

Some views from the other side :-).

And here's a video comparison.

It seems to me that the cars go after different target markets. The Genesis is all about cruising and the VSport is all about performance. One is a car you enjoy riding in with others, the other is a car you enjoy driving more when you're by yourself (let's face it, no one wants to ride with you when you're driving like Jeff Gordon). Things will get much more interesting when the R-Spec arrives. I don't regret my choice. But if I'm honest, if the V-Sport were priced in the mid-50s (and I had known about it), I would have seriously considered the VSport.

Yeah, I hear ya. Not worth the extra money...

Wow, look at that. The E550 is gone. I'm sure BMW will follow suit with the 550i...

I was just pondering this as well. I have an E60 550i and love the thing. If I was looking for a vehicle to replace that today, I would be in the Cadillac dealership buying a V-Sport. The current 550i just isn't my cup of tea.

Keep in mind that the Genesis isn't exactly a landyacht in terms of vehicles dynamics. It was tuned by Lotus after all. Just keep in mind that it is all relative...relative to the V-Sport, the Genesis is less involving, but that's not to say that it is incompetent.

I was really expecting for the guys over there to be taking a dump on the Genesis. Most seem like pretty reasonable dudes.

You think there will be an R-Spec?

Whether or not it's called an R-Spec may be in question, but my guess is it's a given, especially now that they have Albert Biermann (hopefully he didn't bring over any of BMW's problems with him). There were several covered 2nd Generation Genesis models present at the Namyang R&D Center back in September, clearly there are some things coming.

It really sucks that my current lease ends this summer and I will likely get into a '15. Oh well, hopefully Hyundai will have something compelling for me to get into once the lease is up on my next Gennie.

Some of those guys are doing pretty damnn great with deals. Here is a quote from the guy "Cospilot" with thread linked below. His VSport he is talking about.

" i absolutely would not have bought the base. a good deal of the reason why i wanted the premium was for the gauges and the HUD i don't know what else the base comes with and really didn't care. when i buy any car i always get the fully loaded model. they tend to have better resale value.
but considering i only paid 52,000 for my premium from a sticker of 70k the decision was a total no brainer."

Yeah that's a very good price. Honestly I didn't even test-drive the Cadillac because:
  1. I've got some serious car-love for the Genesis (I'd better!! I'm on my third one!!) I just admire what it is and what it stands for. I drive it with pride knowing it's beautiful and knowing that some people thumb their noses up at it even though from an engineering perspective, the Genesis is a fantastic car. Every time I get in it I smile.
  2. After reading the initial reviews of the Caddy and seeing the MSRP, I figured the out-the-door price for what I would want could never get anywhere close to 50K.

That's the way I feel about the Genesis as well. I feel it's the Lexus LS of 2015. Most of those Cadillac owners are level-headed and know a good thing when they see it. A few are still delusional the same way Mercedes-Benz and BMW owners were when Lexus came about in 1989...

P.S. Is anyone having trouble with the multiquote feature? I've been merging a lot of posts lately...

$18k off sticker is not nearly enough to warrant suffering through the awful infotainment/climate system.

I don't find Cadillac's CUE to be all that bad. However, I'd prefer a car without it...

If I could have leased a '14 at those prices, I would be all over it. Unfortunately, I couldn't as incentivized leases were no longer available on '14s when I was looking. The '15s just aren't attractive to lease. Like I said, the V-Sport is not ~$200/month better than the Genesis.

I think that fundamentally, a touchscreen only interface is flawed and non-intuitive. I've never had significant seat time behind a CUE equipped Cadillac but I have spent plenty of time with an MKZ equipped with MyLincoln Touch and I didn't like it. I wouldn't say it completely sucked like some people make it out to be, but a rotary knob, like my RSpec and my 550i are so much better. The new '15 Ultimate Gennie does both touch and rotary which I think is a good thing.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. My wife has a 2014 Acadia with no knob and it's the most distracting interface I've ever seen. Even having to zoom the map in or out requires that you find a tiny "button." Before the Acadia we briefly owned a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid with MFT and while it was better than the Acadia's interface, neither were as intuitive as the Genesis.

I'm all about options so I like the sounds of having both (touch and rotory)...

I had an ATS with it for a weekend rental, fun car but QUE really was a drag on the experience. As a bonus, the touch spot for cruise control mysteriously stopped working, couldn't even press harder to try to get it to work! 😄

Yes, I love options as well. I think the American brands should follow the trend set by the Germans and later adopted by the Asian brands as well. Being unique isn't a bad thing, but it is when that uniqueness is the biggest weakness.

So far the best overall experience, for me, is with the dial - which I believe first came with BMWs. That's what I like. And having both the dial and touch screen is having the best of both worlds. Cadillac (and Lincoln) with their haptic systems and Lexus with their mouse pad all tried to be unique - but it's not the best experience. At least in my opinion...

The haptic mouse pad thing is still much better than a touchscreen only interface.

Yes, I prefer the mousepad over the touch screen as well...
