Is anyone considering the Lincoln MKS? I looked at a loaded MKS. I didn't drive it.

The MKS interior is very nice. It has a few features that the G doesn't offer. Both seats are heated/cooled, pano roof, distronic cruise control, Sync...The touch screen navigation is first rate with weather, gas prices and traffic.

I think both cars have about the same amount of room. The MKS, however, sits much higher and seems more traditional American. The loaded MKS with V6 and without AWD was $44,000.

Anyone else consider Lincoln?

Personally, I do like the Lincoln MKS a lot.. For more indepth information, you might want to ask the guys over at www.lincolnowners.com - in any event, it's a very nice car - though low on power until the turbo/super charged version comes around next year.

I do have to say - the reviews on the MKS are not good. Most of what I read isn't negative.. However, most of what I read about the Genesis is positive. This may have to do with the fact that people expect much more from Lincoln...

When all is said and done - I think Hyundai is up the rise - while Lincoln is failing miserably... I'm really not sure what to think of Lincoln at this point in time......

The entire Ford lineup seems to be in trouble and I think it all starts with the engines. At a recent auto show I was looking at all the engine models on the floor and the related specs. The Ford engines seemed to consistently to have the lowest hp and torgue for the displacement. Maybe just a personal bias.
Both Mercury and Lincoln seem to build a nice showroom car but it always seems to dissapoint on the street vs. the competitors. Can we say Ford 500? The biggest suprise is the new Jaguar -finally again a world class car- oops Ford sold Jaguar.....

The Ecoboost engine will fix my only complaint with the car. Too bad it wasn't ready for the launch of the vehicle.

I've been in the car (The MKS) and it IS very nice and well-built. It'll definitely have some presence on the road. I haven't had a Genesis to compare it to, however..

I think Mercury is on the chopping block.....

I'm reading about a lot of complaints regarding the harsh suspension. This is not a typical Lincoln. If the Infiniti G35 or Audi A6 is too harsh for you - than the MKS is not an option.

Re: Genesis vs. Lincoln MKSvs Maxima vs GT8

The Lincoln MKS is not in the same ball park as the Genesis, Maxima and GT8
The MKS has less hp is less fuel efficient and not as refined and does not perform like the other three cars.......I have driven all three cars Genesis, Maxima and the GT8 without a doubt is the best handeling.....but suffers fuel consumption wise...
The Maxima is nicer inside than the GT8 and possesses more features than the GT8 and handles better than the Genesis but the Genesis has superior fit and finish and the 5 yr war.......both the Maxima and Genesis offer greater comfort and space than G35 ....Somehow I keep getting drawn back to the Genesis....I am going to wait for TL to come out in Sept .....I have read the TL may offer all wheel drive same as RL .....I will then drive Max, Genesis and TL in Oct the same routes and make a decision.....hopefully there will be more feed back published from test drive experts and consumers who have purchased the cars......

Personally, i think the Genesis is more on par with the RL. The new RL isnt bad but I think its underpowered. Plus I can't get pass the new corporate Honda Shield grill. It looks good on the MDX, TSX, and the Accord is not bad either. It looks as if they just took the MDX grill and grafted it onto the new RL. The overall effect is trendy, which I gurantee will not age well.

The MKS could have been a very nice car. But, it is not refined, has an un-Lincoln-like harsh ride, and an engine that vibrates at idle. Too bad, as the Town Car is the only Lincoln that still holds my interest, and if that car goes away, there is no Ford in my future (or in my stock portfolio). For Mulally, who said his LS430 was the best car he ever owned, the MKS is NOT a replacement for the Lexus.

Ford stock can't go much lower... I would think that if they adjust to consumers tastes a bit better they will enjoy a rebound the next few years.

I would be curious at least test drive an MKS. I haven't seen one on the road yet. There sure are enough Launch commercials on TV every 5 minutes! Can you imagine if the Genesis had such a marketing budget?

American automobile companies are going to get burned with all these BMW-like stiff suspensions. It's a MISTAKE. They're doing it to pacify the car magazines and journalists - who THINK firm and stiff is better. It's NOT. And these journalists are STILL going to call their products CRAP.

I can't BELIEVE a Lincoln has a stiff ride.. It's bad enough Cadillac did it with the CTS... Now the new Town Car replacement is STIFF? Even the 2004 and newer Town Cars were stiffened because of BUDGET. Believe me on that one...

Hyundai will have a bigger advertising budget than Lincoln as soon as the MKS fails...

HG,
That's a grim opinion for the outlook on future domestic cars. Do you think Lincoln can build a respectable sports sedan that Americans would like?

My dad used to love his Town Cars. Now though to me a Lincoln just has an image of an old person's car. I guess every brand has a reputation built over time...

The 3.8 Genesis gets 10% better MPG yet delivers more @290 HP vs 273 HP in a 3.7L MKS.

Lincoln MKS is 204 inches long, 75.9 inches wide, 61.6 inches tall, and 4150 pounds in front wheel drive trim (4300 in all wheel drive).

Taurus Limited (the Taurus shares its vehicle platform with the MKS and the Limited is the top trim level) is 202 inches long, 74.5 inches wide, 61.5 inches tall, and 3650 pounds (3800 in all wheel drive).

Genesis V6 is 196 inches long, 73.4 inches wide, 58.3 inches tall, and 3750 pounds.

Given that the MKS is so much bigger than the Genesis, its relatively low gas mileage is understandable.

But I'm still trying to figure out why the MKS is 500 pounds heavier than the Taurus. 0.2 liters of engine displacement, a stronger suspension, some sound dampening materials, and a few technological goodies add 500 pounds?

Good question. I think the hood of the Genesis is aluminum to keep down on body weight. Perhaps in addition to the engine block the body panels, doors etc. are also heavier on the Lincoln? A 100 lbs. here, a 100 lbs, there...

I think the MKS would have been great if it had the V8 now.. This is a Lincoln.. It needs to be powerful. I think the MKS is too heavy for a weak V6. That's going to hurt sales big time. There's not a WHOLE lot of reason to buy an MKS over a Genesis.. ONLY the badge is better.

I have a feeling that while the MKS is bigger on the outside, the Genesis is bigger on the inside - or at the very least - about equal. In that case, the size of the MKS is a negative..

I think that the two vehicles are close in interior room.

One difference is the height of the vehicles. The Lincoln is higher, like its Ford cousins. The Lincoln would be easier to enter and exit. Persons coming from a SUV might prefer the geight of the Lincoln.
