  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Warranty

I have been searching for Costguard warranty but cannot find them on Google. Is that a product name but under a differant company name? Any links would be appreciated.I have had both good and bad experience with extended warranties in the past and even had one company go out of business just months after taking my money. So, I'm looking for the best company just like everyone else. I'm just not sure where to start as they all claim to be the best.
Costguard was the brand mentioned above that is offered by a group of specific dealers in CT. It may in fact be just offered by that one dealer group (basically if they are underwriting their own insurance policy), or could be sold by other dealers. But regardless, it is sold by a dealer, so contact the dealer who is selling you the car as to which warranties they offer.

IMO, the Hyundai Motor America (or Genesis) extended warranty is the best choice, because it is honored instantly at any USA Genesis dealer, and the warranty information is available in every dealer computer system. Other warranties "may" sometimes only be honored at certain dealers, or only at the selling dealer. Also, you don't need to purchase the Hyundai (or Genesis) extended warranty at time of purchase, or at the same dealer where you purchased your car.

As with most extended warranties, the price they first quote you will probably be outrageously high, but if you can get one for about $1,800 - $2,000 on a G90, that might be a good price. PMCErnie apparently has a 2014 Hyundai Genesis, and the warranty on that model is going to be less than a new G80, and especially a new G90.

Great info. Thanks again. Now I just need to find a good deal on the best Hyundai warranty for a 2017, low mileage G90.

I agree. A warranty that only applies to dealers in a given geographic area makes sense if the car remains there, but I'd prefer to have widespread coverage, assuming the price is right. With the purported impending establishment of Genesis-only dealers, though, I wonder if the Hyundai/Genesis extended warranty will continued to be offered at every Hyundai dealership. At some point, I'd expect the non-Genesis ones to no longer have Genesis techs and/or parts on hand.

I believe that for 2018 models, if a dealer sold G90's, they will continue to provide warranty service.

I don't put too much weight on the idea that "Genesis" tech is needed to service the cars in 95% of the cases.

I just tried to get info from the Hyundai company site about extended warranty. The URL is: www.officialhyundaiwarranty.com . Surprisingly, they do to show Genesis as a "brand" and there is no G90 or G80 to be found, only the older Genesis as a model under the Hyundai brand.

Genesis Motors has its own website now, but it doesn't have as information as the Hyundai site. If you want info about extended warranty for a 2017 G90, find a dealer that sells new ones, and contact the Finance Dept and ask them about it. Or you can just go to a dealer and ask the Finance Dept. Make sure they sell the G90.

CostGuard is just one of this company's offerings.

I'm not hawking for them. Just making folks aware that not all dealers sell the Hyundai plans. I chose to buy what my local dealer was selling. I was successful in talking down the price.

My dealer was NOT offering any other extended warranties whatsoever. Maybe I should have held a gun to his head to force him to sell me a Hyundai warranty? That's what Mark888 would have done, I gather.

Here's one I can't find an answer for; If I buy a 2017 G90 with 10K miles, and I would be the second owner, will I still get the 3 years of free service and/or the concierge service like the original owner? One or both services? I know my drivetrain warranty is lowered to 5 yrs/60K but I don't know about these other two details and can't even get the dealer to tell me.

I received a reply from Genesis Motors regarding my question above:

"Subsequent owners do not receive the remainder of the complimentary maintenance plan; however, they do receive the remainder of the valet service for warranty and recall/campaign work, and loaner for recall/campaign work. Lastly, extended warranties may be purchased through a Genesis Brand retailer.

We apologize for any frustrations this may cause.

Respectfully,

I contacted my local Hyundai dealer. They agreed to sell me Hyundai's Platinum warranty for $2,300. It provides for 10 years or 100,000 miles on the WHOLE CAR. So, it's better than the original warranty for me, the second owner. I was surprised at the price as it actually seems like a pretty good deal.

sounds reasonable. One component breakdown would pay you back.

What about the three year maintenance and concierge service. I was told by corporate that it does not transfer unless the car is sold by a dealer with less than 500 miles and the dealer files some paperwork with corporate. Anybody hear about this?

Is the Genesis warranty fully transferable to the next owner?

If someone buys a 2 year old G90 will he/she retain the rest of the 10/100k warranty?
NO. SORRY.

Mine transferred to me. It had 1100 miles on it at the time. It was repo’d from the original owner after just a few weeks (financing fell through I'm guessing). The original owner never registered for the 3 year connected service. I assume that’s what made my situation different.

I have some experience with extended warranties. Protect yourself. Always go for the authorized (backed by the company) brand warranty. Always. Never purchase a 3rd party warranty. Why? Extended warranty companies go out of business quite regularly - and then you have lost your money AND will end up paying for the repair! And with third party warranties you never really know whether something will be covered in it's entirety until your car is in service - usually, years after you purchased the warranty - Can you imagine going to pick up your car that has been fixed only to be told that the replaced part was covered, but not the labor for the diagnostics? Or that the covered labor costs under your purchased warranty is capped at $90 an hour, but the dealer or shop charges $120 an hour or more! These are only a few well-known ways people get screwed with 3rd party warranties. The internet is full of sad extended warranty scam stories. The second bit of advice. Warranty prices are ALWAYS negotiable. Never accept the MSRP or first price. Comparison shop. It's very easy. It just takes a few phone calls. Lastly, the finance guy at the dealership is not looking out for your best interests - just for his financial best interests. Don't be someones dinner time story. Be a good consumer. :) Good luck.

Ditto.

I get these offers from many companies all the time. Thieves.
Goes right into the “Circular File”.
