If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Okay... I have decided to add the wing emblems after reading many of your posts. Yikes!!! The wheel caps for the V8 are $249.00... (any suggestions for that?)

This is my question... how many Genesis "Wing" License Plate Bolts should I buy? I bought two chrome license plate frames to replace the dealer ones. These frames come with four screws and four caps.

Would it look too cluttered to buy screws for all four holes? (that would be 8 in total!)

Here is a link for the license plate frame.

I'm thinking maybe it is and I should just leave it alone and keep it chrome...

Has anyone else used all 4 winged screws and does it look good? Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

I think you only have 2 holes for screws on the front and back. So I would say just purchase 4 winged screws.

Also, the link you provided is a dead link. Amazon.com does not recognize the address.

Weird... my plate has what looks like 4 screws. I will have to look again!!!

Sorry about the link... I will try again.

Most (or maybe all) US State License plates have 4 holes, but the Genesis only has two holes for attaching the top of the plate to the trunk lid. I like to use nylon screws/nuts on the bottom holes to hold the plate to the frame, and to protect the car finish in case the bottom of the plate is pushed against the trunk lid (the nylon nuts will stick out a bit in the rear). You can get nylon screws/nuts in those metal drawers at Home Depot or Lowe's, or any good hardware store. I use a hack saw to cut the nylon screws to length.

Isn't there some Styrofoam padding or something like that behind the plate near the bottom that keeps the plate form touching flush to the trunk?

And to answer the original post, one wing emblem, trunk mounted is enough. No need to have winged plate holders.

Yes! There is! Which is great so the car isn't scratched and also for the sound system not to vibrate the plate like it did in my 03 elantra I traded in.

Yes, you are correct! There are only two screws for the Genesis, but four for my license plate. Now I am more confused than ever... do I need to attach the bottom of the plate to keep from getting rattles? And.... do I use the winged screws for the top and plain ones for the bottom?

What do you recommend?

It partly depends on whether your license plate holder has a lip to secure the plate on the bottom (some plate holders with only two screw holes have this) and if you have any foam strip on the bottom to keep the metal from touching the car.

It looks to me like the holder you have works best with the supplied caps that are supplied with the holder.

I could exchange the license plate holder that I bought for one with only two screw holes and secure the bottom with just the foam??? What do you recommend as the best way to do this?

Thank you in advance for the help!

If you put a nice cap over the bottom bolts, that usually looks good. There are bottom holes in the plates, so you can't get around that, unless you get a holder that completely covers the bottom of the plate.

But states are getting picky about covering up parts of the plate with the holders, so I prefer the holders with four bolts that does not obscure any of the info on the plate. Less chance of getting a citation.

Picked up my 4.6 Saphire Blue today and went to install the license plate bolts. They are a different size than the bolts that are supplied. In fact, they appear to be self-tapping bolts. What am I missing here?

Okay... I went to install my license plate bolts... no problem for the front, but they didn't fit in the back. The dealer said the front had plastic holders for the screws, but the back needed a smaller thread... does anyone know about this? Do they come in different sizes?

Same problem here (see post above yours) - the wing license plate bolts are too small for the back. I haven't tried to address this yet with KAI but will when I get a minute.

A small dab of silicon on the bottom corners of the plate will prevent any chaffing or rattles. The 'license bay' in the rear is contoured and very small. You may need to try a variety of frames before finding one that fits properly.
