If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

I am REALLY close to purchasing a 2009 Genesis 3.8, after driving the car I have been really impressed. I drove the G37, IS 250, TL, CTS and a couple other but this car impressed me the most.

My problem is this; I live in a really hilly area (plus a steep driveway) and was going to purchase a AWD vehicle since I am the one driving my 1yr old daughter to/from daycare. I feel comfortable driving in the snow in FWD with decent rubber, but I wanted to hear your reviews about driving the Genesis in the snow. From the little research I have done it seems the car does okay with snow tires (Blizzaks) but I'm more concerned about getting over the hilly areas in the snow/slush.

I live in the Vancouver, Canada area. We get some snow but not very much at a time; maybe 6-7 centimeters or so then slush for a couple days after that.

Anyways, I appreciate any information you can provide.

Four snow tires and two 70 lb. tubes of sand in my liner-protected trunk are perfect. Owning the car is worth the little bit of inconvenience and expense.

Get it right! Snow tires is what people used in the 70's (think lugs), Winter tires is what is used in modern day. Technology has come a long way. With this cars weight distribution, winter tires should be enough without having to stuff bodies in the trunk.:)

DK,
The two bags of sand will go long way to balancing the car and traction.

Winter Sport 3Ds are very quiet, civilized - excuse my Neanderthal-like term (snows), and leave my 2 tubes of sand in my trunk next to Jimmy Hoffa's body alone. Otherwise, you might see me passing your winterized Sonata some day up in the northern burbs! :D

Hey I'll have the General Altimax Artics on the Sonata in a few months. Bring it:cool:

I live in the NEO Snow belt and travel between all parts [highway and rural back road] of Ohio, PA, up state NY, and WV... I'm not expecting any issues with the Genny given the proper set of snow tires and common sense driving. (I purchased a set of LM60's which I'll mount in the next two weeks or so.)

Genesis will be fine in snow as long as you get a good set of winter tires. I live in calgary so we get our fair share of nasty winters. I have driven Bmw's all my life and never had issues in snow, but i always ran a good set of winters, so im used to driving rwd. Blizzaks are amazing in snow, or some hakka's. However rwd in snow is totally different driving style then fwd. take corners slowly and watch th throttle and you'll be fine. But if you are worried, awd is no comparison to a rwd/fwd. i had an bmw x5 before and with winter it was like a tank, i had no worries at all, never been so confident in snow, lol.

This will be my first year driving in snow with the genesis and im not worried at all.

I challenge both of you to a duel.

Thanks for the winter suggestions. I've never driven a RWD car in the snow. Where I grew up we never had it.

Ha! You suck:p Lol

thanks everyone for your input it was very much appreciated. so i took the plunge and picked up my new ride. its a 09 genesis 3.8 with the tech package. its only got 30k (not miles) and i got the certified warranty (3 years bumper to bumper) plus a set of michelin alpin on rims ... all in for $28k. thoughts? i thought i did alright.

Loved the Alpin PA3's on my previous SH-AWD TL... sure you'll enjoy them just the same.

I wish I had the choice to pick them up instead of the LM60's...

28k with taxes?
I think you paid a little on the high side, but depends on what the supply and demand is in your area for genesis's
But as long as its in good condition and you like it then that's all that matters
I paid 27k plus tax at the end of the year last year for my '10 4.6 fully loaded with 10k kms

I think you got a reasonable price, here in canada the genesis are much more expensive. The 4.6 '09 are going for are 32000 certified.

a good set of ice tires,i use mich x ice. but watch out when your traction control kicks in. you can be put in some bad situation ,be prepared to turn it off. iv had problems when your turning on yellow lights and it kicks in and your stuck crawling through doing 10 kph lookin like a *******

If you were referring to me, I am in Canada... Winnipeg, Manitoba to be exact
Bought mine from a Honda dealer, as it was a trade in for them

id like to start a tread just to brag, but my post option disappeared (i won t pay $ for this) or im too drunk to find it. but iv been working and driving regularly up too Red Earth Creek,Alberta,Canada. So im pretty sure i got the most northern genenis in the world

I have Dunlop Graspic winter tires on my 4.6. We had a 12" storm this season (December 2012) in Minneapolis. I took the car out when there was about 5" to check out the new tires and how the Genesis worked (my first winter season with the car). I'm impressed, it works better than my old front wheel drive car. You don't even notice the traction control, you just see the ECS dash light when it kicks in. The tires are quieter than the stock tires on dry roads but they feel sponger (a similar feel to Blizzaks I ran many years ago), I guess I'll have to sacrifice performance for winter traction. I don't care for the stock Dunlops that came with the car but the winter tires are great.
