  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just posted that the last generation of Genesis loses 0ver 38% of value the first year. Imptessive but in a bad way. How come?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Late in the model year, the 2014 Genesis was selling up to $10K off MSRP. If the depreciation numbers are based on MSRP, that would be a big factor.

Also the desirability of the car is lower.

High depreciation regarding luxury cars is not that unusual. Most will be hit the first year by 35% to 40%. Check Mercedes, Cadillac, Jaguar, etc over the last 4 years.

The depreciation is higher on a model year after a major change is introduced, hence the extra hit of the 2014 Genesis model as well as others who had a major facelift that next year.

Answers all make sense but 38% and being #1 does not bode well for purchasing a new Genesis. I call it that rather than a "Genny" because it is my car not my spouse or girlfriend. That being said it is the best overall car I ever owned including RR and Bentley, BMW, Benz, etc.

Interesting, but not surprising. The 2015 did just get a reward for highest residual value in its class though.
