  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,
I have an issue with my 2010 Genesis V8. Car broke down and not starting. The dealer says the fuel is contaminated and he has to clean the system by taking it out and replace with fuel engine and pump. Quotes 2300$.

He has no clue why the fuel is contaminated.
I was always using costco gas though.

If you know of any mechanic in NJ who can get this done for lower cost, pls let me know.

If the fuel actually was contaminated, wouldn't it be a matter of replacing the fuel filter??

It may also involve draining the tank.

If the fuel is contaminated enough to have caused engine failure then CostCo must have gotten other complaints about this issue. Check with them and see if the problem can be traced to their supplier, fuel tank contamination or some other common cause. You might be able to get some financial help cleaning up the engine.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Also have you had the required maintenance done. ie replacement of fuel tank air filter every 30k miles and fuel filter replaced per manual. Many dealers say its not necessary unless there is a problem. Well you have a problem which is costing many more times than the maintenance. Not saying it is due to not having the maintenance, its just your problem is the kind that too many dealers wait for instead of performing the services.

Hi, Sorry for late response. It was more than that. lot of cleaning (fuel lines and engine) involved. 2500$ was the dealer quote

I have all the reqd maintenance on time all the time and always at the dealer. This is the first time I went out to non hundai delaer service as his quote was too high.

Checked with costco, doesn't seem any complaints there. I have taken my car to another place, not hundai certified thought. And he says it is not the fuel problem. I shall post more details tomorrow
