  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK, I have this crazy question. has anyone ever seen the sedan with a coupe 2.0 or 3.8 motor in the sedan? can it be done? just wondering. since there is no real performance parts for the stock motor, swapping motors might be the solution to the problem.

The standard response when this is brought up is anything can be done with enough money and time. No, I've never heard of/seen one.

The coupe 3.8L GDI has 348hp vs 333hp for the 12-14 sedan 3.8L GDI, so hardly worth it. The blown 13-14 Theta only make 275/274 and the pre-13 far less. So that's a fail.

I'm guessing you would be mainly swapping to get a tune for the ECU as doing it just for headers or intake would be stupid, but the cost would be crazy expensive in my estimations to get everything working copacetic. Then you worry about reliability and warranty. Same thing would apply if you wanted to increase boost on the Theta.

Just buy a coupe or the 5.0L sedan is my short answer I guess.

Buy the 5.0 and add a custom made turbo. Way less expensive.

Just curious what Hyundai did different on the coupe for the extra 15 hp?

Good question. I would say the coupe benefits from the combination of a less obstructive exhaust and intake, maybe lighter accessory pulleys and probably a slightly more aggressive ECU tune. I can see those factors easily equated to a slightly higher crank HP rating.

The prior model Sonata at one point had a limited and SE model with the same engine. The SE model made a couple more ponies with a freer flowing exhaust from the factory.

Yeah, I knew there is a few differences between coupe 3.8 and sedan. Thought it might be a good idea to swap. Also thought there was a turbo kit for coupe 3.8. Since the coupe motor got better parts. Kinda like how the n/a 300zx and the twin turbo model. Same motor but better parts to handle the turbo. Was thinking if someone did want to do more performance in mind, swapping would be a good choice, yeah?

I would think to swap ecu's. From coupe to sedan would be a start...before just swapping out ecu's check out the pins so you don't burn your wiring harness. also just look into the design of the intakes and injectors for different flow rates..
