If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I have used a radar detector for months without an issue. Last Thursday, the part that goes in the front cigarette lighter (why did they put an ash tray and lighter in this car??) came apart when I was pulling it out to store the detector away.

Received new radar detector, plug it in and nothing. Checked power outlet in center console - nothing. Thought it was the radar detector so ordered a new one. Then it hit me - blown fuse? Check the two interior panels - everything okay. Engine panel - found the blown 25 fuse. Canceled order and went and bought new fuse. Outlets working.

Went out last night to go home - dead outlets again. Got home - blown fuse again. Replaced it and let it sit overnight without plugging anything in. Checked it this morning - so far outlets are working.

Anyone else have this problem?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The plug on the radar detector when it came apart may have shorted and damaged the socket which caused the fuse to blow.

That's what I think too. Going to play stupid and take it to dealer if I go out at lunch and it has blown another fuse.

If you try to plug in a cell phone into the USB under the arm rest for charging you will blow the 25 AMP fuse every time. :p

Not using USB. Using power outlet. Checked it at lunch and it was okay. Wait and see later when I need to use detector tonight.

My Genesis will blow the fuse every time if you plug a radar detector in up front and a cell phone charger in the armrest. Dealer says the car was not intended to be used that way????? Doesn't know what to do.

my 25amp power port fuse blew. so i replaced it but my power ports aren't working even though fuse is still good. thoughts?

At this time:- charger with 2 USB ports in the center armrest=100%
iPod directly into USB port in the center a/rest=100%
I have not used the power socket in the front of the center console..
No issues whatsoever..Get the dealership to get an auto electrician on the job..

I have a 2009 V6 non-Tech Package and sometimes use a Garmin GPS in cigarette lighter, always have an iPod connected via iPod cable, and sometimes a mini-USB charger in under armrest to charge my cell phone (Blackberry), and with all 3 connected at same time (especially on long trips) I have never had any problems.

on an older car I had with a cheap cig lighter installed, inadvertently twisting something plugged in could cause the internal parts to shift and short.

I'm having that problem too, checked everything and it is all good but no power in either port but the usb works fine???????

Is there anything left in the lighter socket from the old RD plug? A small part like the tip or part of the tip inside the plug could be still in there. Which could allow it to work, but later move around and short the socket between the positive in the middle and the outside of the socket (ground).

I went through three fuses, but since have had no problems since original post.

My mistake, the fuses are all good, but I have no power other than the USB outlet. I get 12V from the positive contact to ground on the front socket. Still No go? Does anyone know to get the socket out without damaging it or the console?

I had "some" blown fuses when I bought my Genny used. I was accused of overloading the system because they saw a "power pack" in the back seat that I had transferred from my trade in (2008 Azera). I never used the power pack in the Genny because I had NO power to any of the outlets.

Dealer replaced fuses and haven't had a problem since. I always have my radar detector plugged in and my USB powered thumb drive, along with the occasional iPod (when not using the thumb drive) and haven't had any issues.

Not sure if this helps, but obviously, blow fuses are not uncommon. Seems like nothing is uncommon with these cars.

I'm about to lose track of how many times I've had this car in the shop since July 2013. It's going back again on Monday for several other issues. All electrical in nature. Should the drive train start giving me problems like these electrical issues, I'll bomb the car!! :)

Thanks. I checked all the fuses and they seem OK. This is the first real problem other than the computer needing re-booting (windows???) and local varmints eating the wiring to the fuel injectors (OUCH! $4,000) to fix. Thankfully the house insurance covered it all. One interesting point is the USB power port works fine, just the power outlets failing six weeks ago.

I'm having the same problem. The A/C ports in ashtray and under armrest are not working. LED lights are working. USB connection for iPhone still works. I have not found where the fuse is located for the A/C ports.

I'll throw this out to y'all who are having issues with fuses and or power to some outlets and not others.

Took my car in 2 weeks ago with several minor issues but would have cost a ton to fix. Come to find out one of the fuse boxes (I think it was the passenger side box under the hood) had a short in it. When they did some resistance measurements they found there was 3x the resistance in one of the areas they checked (I'm no electrician at all) but the other(s) were fine.

They replaced that fuse box along with a couple of fuses and now (for the time being) everything is working as it should.

I was having some intermittent problems and some consistent problems. Don't know if this helps anyone, but, it's sure worth mentioning to your service folks.

Wish I could explain what/how they were measuring for resistance, but, I just as well perform brain surgery with blinders on!!!

I have a 2011 4.6L and had the same issue. I replaced the fuse using the spare that is provided in the passenger side fuse box, next to the fuse puller tool. The following video was short, and very helpful! I did this tonight, so we’ll see if it blows again in the coming days/weeks…
