  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Gonna shop this weekend for a 2010 4.6 Tech

Had to put the dream on hold due to unexpected job instability in the family. If all goes well, I'll be back in the hunt in March. Thanks, everyone, for all the feedback. I hope it all still applies in a couple of months.

Sorry to hear about that...best of luck to you and your family!

Hyundai Assurance is a nice benefit in this economy.
Thanks!!! Hopefully, it won't come to that. But, you never know these days. Besides, this will give me more time to get better educated. This is a great forum.

This is a great car! Solid, quiet, fast- I could not be happier. tax 3.3% I forgot about the tint, it looks good , not too dark

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Yes, best take care of priorities. The cars will still be there waiting. 1+ on the tinting, I completely forgot that mine wasn't a factory standard.

Good luck with the test drive & shopping. I tried to go the Costco route (in South Florida), but that dealer seemed pretty clueless. It's a shame because I previoulsy bought a hybrid thru Costco and that worked out well.

Anyway, when the dealer in the Costco program didn't pan out, I went onto the American Express program (thru Zag.com). The advantage of that program is that you see the price before you submit your contact info (includes the ability to choose your option to make the price as accurate as possible). It allowed me to have up to 3 dealers to contact me. In the end, I did buy a 4.6 tech this month at the price Amex promised.

Best of luck!
Gumby

PS - the Amex link is http://amexnetwork.zag.com/main.html... no one asked to see my Amex and in fact I used my Visa for the down payment.

While visiting my Orlando Hyundai dealer a couple days ago, I saw cars with decals on the side, advertising that Sams Club and also BJ's now have the same car buying program as Costco.

I'll be trading in our 2006 Lexus IS350.
!

Murvin, I'm a fan of the Genesis, but what's wrong with the 350? That is one badass machine, unless maybe you've had bad luck or the lack of space?

Paraphrasing: In another thread, he mentioned that it's his wife's car, and she doesn't drive it like a sports car. So he's looking for something bigger for her with more amenities that he wouldn't mind driving occasionally.

Got it... thanks dg.

I used Overstock.com for $3300 under invoice New Year's weekend (including 1500 rebate). Dealers are Glendale and Escondido. Highly rec. Overstock.com prices which are lower than Costco or Carsdirect. It's the lowest so far for 2010 V-6 Tech. V-8 was $1500 more when I bought

Hi my name is David.

I read your post about 'trading in your IS 350'...

I am in the SAME situation as you!! Interested in the same car and have an 06 IS too.

I would be VERY careful if I were you! You will likely be VERY disappointed with the numbers!

David

Hi David. What numbers? Trade value of IS? Sale price of Genesis?

You have to assume you're going to get hosed on trades - especially if you beat them down on the Genesis price. We would probably be much better off trying to sell the IS privately.

The price of the car is NO problem. Dealers are pretty much selling at invoice to move the car...that is NOT the problem.

Our problem is the IS 350. Right now the used luxury market is soft and I was offered $5,000 below what it is really worth. Did you get into the numbers with the Hyundai dealer yet?

That was my biggest hesitation. So, my hesitation right now is selling the IS 350 on my own. If you have the time, patience, and wherewithall, go for it.

David

...very interested in your story right now...

Well, my story is rather simple. As I stated a few posts up . . . I've put the purchase off until the family job status is resolved to my liking.

I didn't discuss yet with Hyundai the value of my trade. But, a month or two ago, I was looking at an ES350 and Lexus was offering a pretty good trade-in value. I guess it depends on your expectation and what you have invested in the IS. I bought mine pretty well (CPO with 15K on it). I think he was offering me something like $22k - kept coming up to make the deal (which he didn't). Don't expect any number you see on the web for a trade (NADA, Edmunds, KBB, etc.). Dealers work off a completely different book. Selling yourself is not as easy as it used to be. Lots of scammers and third-party solicitations are in store for you the minute you post on Autotrader or Craigslist. If you do, don't take any calls from a 702 number unless you know the party. They are brokers who will try to entice you to let them sell your car for you.

I've found that you can find out exactly the invoice price of car and their options on a number of internet sites, and they're accurate. Just google genesis invoice price. As previously posted, the dealers will actually sell below invoice. Manufacturers kick backs plus dealer patronage motivates them plus the state of the economy. Figure the invoice price, then call the dealer. Tell them what you will pay, and will walk if its anything different when you get there. I haven't visited a dealer for years without a deal before I got there, and it's worked every time. In addition, it's been a very stress free experience since there's no negotiating, and fun. I stated what I paid in a previous thread, 2K below invoice on my new 2009, 4.6 with tech. Hope you get what you want, it's a great car.

I know this is a little off-topic, but since it's my thread . . . ;)

I finally got a chance to go out and test drive the Genesis this past weekend. They had two 4.6 Techs sitting next to each other. One was an 09 and the other a 10. The only noticeable difference was that they had applied the badges to the 09 (marked it up $895 - cough!). I asked the salesman what other differences there were and he said none - they were exactly the same. Is that true? BTW, I drove the 09 and see what everyone is talking about with the suspension. It seemed a bit choppy over bumps. I don't mind a firm ride, but this was different. Hard to put a finger on it. I didn't drive the 10 yet to see if there's any improvement.

No, that's not true. While the model years are more or less the same, there have been some changes (speaking only about the 4.6 Tech package; there have been minor changes in other trims too):
  • Radar-assisted cruise control (new)
  • Electronic Parking Brake with automatic hold (new)
  • Tweaked suspension (change)
  • Lower grille change to accommodate radar sensor (change)
  • Minor button changes for new cruise control and EPB (change)
  • Incorporation of minor running design changes, such as more robust cover on front->rear HVAC passthru vents, trunk latch, hood switch, etc. (change)
  • 3 months free XM radio trial (change from 12 months on the '09)
  • +5 more HP (I think)
You definitely should drive the 2010, since the behavior you describe in the 2009 is similar to what others have described. In general, folks here have reported that 2010 changes may have helped. On the other hand, others haven't been bothered by it on the 2009 or have reported improvements over time as the suspension breaks in, loading more weight in the trunk, or changing tires. YMMV.

The badging is a rip-off, dealer add-on for more margin. Even if they did a full rebadge, including airbag cover, wheel caps, and front and rear emblems, it shouldn't cost them more than maybe $400-500.

Thought so. Thanks for the list. You had me at +5hp! - :D

I will definitely be looking for the 2010 when I'm ready.
