  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Gonna shop this weekend for a 2010 4.6 Tech

2010 definitely. Especially with what people complain about the suspension. I personally think mine's waaaay to squishy/soft, but that's how a "luxury" car should feel. I'm a corners kinda guy, and it needs a lot of help in that department.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that the MSRP went up by $1750...likely accounting for the new additions.

I consider the extra money worth it for the radar cruise control and the park and hold.

One point to the list of changes for '10: The horsepower rating did not change for either powertrain. The 4.6 Tau has always been rated at 375HP on premium fuel, 368 on regular fuel.

The biggest thing for a buyer to consider, I believe, is the change in ride quality. The '10 has much "stiffer legs", but is more stable and corners noticeably flatter. The '09 is "cushier", with less cornering ability. More importantly, the '09 was upset by certain road surfaces at lower-mid highway speeds...this was written-about endlessly in this forum and others. The motoring press described it as less-refined than a luxury car buyer would expect. I think the issue was exaggerated, but was real. Also, load weight seems to make a difference...the car you will be driving at the dealership will have a nearly-empty fuel tank, and nothing in the trunk. You might try driving it alone, then with a spouse or friend(s) to cover the range of loads it will see.

In any case, you MUST drive the car you want to buy for more than a trip around the block, so you are fully cognizant of what you will be getting. The only questioned area of this model is the suspension, and time and time again, it comes back to personal preferences.

Good luck with your purchase, and let us know what you end up with!

Good info. I must add that the salesman offered a 24hr test drive. That would certainly be sufficient to try different road surfaces, various weight loads and, most importantly, make sure it fits in the drive-thru :D

I was under the impression that the 2010 V8 had a 10hp boost over the 09. From 375 to 385. There are many articles about it around the net... this being one:

Thanks for the reference. I've heard various figures from none to five to ten. Interestingly, Hyundai's marketing literature is still showing 375-HP for the V8 for 2010, the same as 2009.

Hard to tell about the horsepower rating, although I'd keep in mind that there has been a ton of misreported information on this model since the beginning. The link cited above says that Hyundai was adding a 2-stage intake to allow for more optimum breathing (I have seen no reference to that anywhere else) and continuously variable intake and exhaust valve timing (they already had this in 2009). Also (and this means absolutely nothing), the engine doesn't LOOK any different...I mean, I'd expect a switch to a staged intake tract to have necessitated some plumbing changes underhood that would be at least noticeable, the key word being "expect".

Another meaningless point is the further link at the bottom to the article about how the Genesis would have a new 8-speed automatic in 2010. Gonna happen, but not gonna happen right now.

I guess I'm saying I'd take this source of info with a grain of salt...

It is interesting to see that the new ZF 8-speed is now out there on several other brands. This is a great piece of engineering, in that it is (pretty much) physically interchangeable with the 6HP26 used in the V8 Genesis. Personally, I think the idea of using 8 ranges with an engine as torquey as a V8 is 'way overkill, but it's a one-upmanship feature people can grok. As it is, I don't like the ultra-short first gear in the 4.6, as the upshift right off the line is a little disconcerting. But that's just me...Anyway, the 8-speed costs more than the existing ZF 6 (which is already pretty pricey), so I'm sure Hyundai will want to wait for their own design, and even then, will probably put it in the Equus first. Anybody hear any more details on the Equus powertrain?
