If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am considering buying a 2010 Genesis 3.8L with ~15K miles without the tech/prem package. It seems to be in very good condition.

I got the dealer down to what appears to be their firm price -- $28,220 before sales tax/title/license ($27,773 plus $447 in various dealer fees that they would not back off of). The dealer fee stuff got me angry enough to walk out, but when I calmed down the price still seems pretty good based on KBB and Nada. Should I pull the trigger?

Also, I am operating under the assumption that the car will come with a 5yr/60K bumper-to-bumper warranty. Is this right or is it only the powertrain?

Maybe a good deal. Have you checked about buying from a private owner. I always buy a used car from an owner and save money and pay no sales tax. Also, does the car need tires (600.00 - 900.00), or any other items. The 3.8 engine, since it has solid lifters, also will need to have valve lifter clearances checked at 30,000 miles and adjusted where necessary. Just a few things to think about.

Please don't make any assumptions about a $30K purchase -- Discuss with the dealer and get anything you're not 100% sure about in writing.

I believe the initial Bumper-To-Bumper warranty will still be good, though there may be some sort of (small) transfer fee. I do believe that the original 10 year / 100K mile power train warranty is invalidated on resale, so make sure that whatever remaining B2B is going to suffice for you.

You're going to enjoy the holy hell out of this thing if you get it. :-)

On 10/15 I bought a 2010 4.6 with tech that had 14,200 miles on it from a dealer in new jersey. I got the balance of the 50k bumper to bumper warranty and the 100k powertrain. I paid $28,400, plus their stupid $249 doc fee, plus tax.

I really like the car, and I am glad I got the 4.6 (even tho I had been looking for the 6 cyl). I spent about 5 hours with the dealer going back and forth, walked out once (they ran out after me), and think I got a good deal. good luck.

The 100K powertrain warranty is valid only to the original owner. Its right in the manual. The dealer lied to you. Below is right off of Hyundai's website

Here it is right off of Hyundai's website.

10-YEAR/100,000-MILE POWERTRAIN PROTECTION
Covers repair or replacement of powertrain components (i.e., selected engine and transmission/transaxle components), originally manufactured or installed by Hyundai that are defective in material or factory workmanship, under normal use and maintenance. Coverage applies to original owner only, effective with 2004 model year and newer model year vehicles. On 1999-2003 model years, coverage applies to original owner and immediate family members (i.e., wife, husband, daughter, son, stepdaughter, stepson).

Second and/or subsequent owners have powertrain components coverage under the 5-Year/60,000-Mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Excludes coverage for vehicles in commercial use (e.g. taxi, route delivery, delivery service, rental, etc.).

You guys are dismissing that he may have bought the car hyundai certified...which then gives you the powertain warranty up to 10 years/100K miles.

This is true.
If I was Dan Young I would check on it. Its not like these dealers dont lie. I would also check the date the car was originally put in service.

Price seems ok for mileage but the dealer pack is always baloney. Check www.fitzmall.com

I had a look at Fitzmall, and it looks like a nice place to find a deal. They have a NEW 2011 with Premium Package that looks like a new deal for $30,800. It says "Executive Demo" though. Does anyone know what this means? Is this basically a car that has been used as a loaner? Also, they claim to ship the car as part of the price! This seems too good to be true...

Basically someone from the dealer has been driving the car.
How many miles on it?

Check the date the car was put in service. That is the day the warranty started. I had bought a Sonata that was the same way. The car had 3000 miles on it but I saved about $2,800 compared to the best price I got buying one with 0 miles

It seems like a good deal, but I am waiting on them to send me some pictures.

The car was put into service 3/10. I am the first "owner" of my genny- it had not been registered. Instead, it was driven by dealership guys for about 6 months. When I bought the car,it had the new car sticker displayed.

The dealer put 14,200 miles on it in 6 months, and the car was never registered?? Something sounds fishy there. I would double check with the DMV to make sure the car was never registered before. With the demo Sonata, I bought, I still got the all the warrantys, but I have never seen them sell a car with that many miles as "new". Im sure they can put the original window sticker back on the window. I do it when I sell my cars private party. Not bustin your stones, just trying to look out for a fellow Genesis owner. I trust no dealer.

I ended up getting the car from my initial post. I was wrong about on the demo car at Fitzergald Auto Mall having free delivery (not sure what I thought that would come free).

Anyway, I've had it for about 24 hours and I love it so far!
