  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Good luck to all of you

There are more than one way to deal with any issue. So far, between the Stinger and G70, I've bought 2 sets of Enkei TFR rims, 2 sets of performance all-season tires, plus 1 set of TW200 AutoX tires, and I haven't spent anywhere close to that much. I took off the OEM 19" wheels/tires even before I left the dealer parking lot and sold them for $1500 soon after. That money almost exactly paid for Enkei TFR 18x8.5's and tires they replace, so basically no-cost exchange. Genesis does not own a monopoly on low profile tires and the associated damage risks. Many of the Euro and Japanese competitors have similar wheel/tire setup, if not even worse. As long as folks keep liking the donk look, car mfrs are gonna keep pumping out big heavy-ass rims and rubber band tires.

The Brembo brake pad issue, however, is legit. Genesis/Kia continue to shoot themselves in the foot by not addressing this problem properly. That said, there are ways to mitigate this issue without spending crazy money on the EuroSport pads. While I'm glad our 6MT G70 came with those, I'm not buying them when it comes time to replace. There is a long thread here on this issue, and folks have found good alternatives, depending on your preference and usage. Because of the crossover with Stinger, aftermarket support for G70 is excellent.

Spark plugs?! I just bought 1-higher heat range NGK plugs that work better with JB4. About $14/plug. Same heat range replacements are about the same cost. Not sure what the problem is.

Anyhow, I hope you have better luck with your new steed.
If you, as an individual, is not some sort of mod freak adrenaline junkie super cool home shadetree mechanic, then you are required to buy spark plugs every 40k miles, 6 X 14 + labor, which is 200-500 dollars. That's the problem. That 40 k mile work is $$$. Sure, you can NOT do it, but then you basically have created big ol warranty denial situation for yourself. If you adhere to the manual's requirement for schedule 1 or 2, you are going to be leaking lots of money for some of those service intervals. Maintaining a luxury sport vehicle is expensive for most brands, it's just an acknowledged fact, and I am not up for any more. It's waste of my time and money. If you drive a lot (over 25k / year), which I do, then this car will cost you $$$$$. It's just a fact.

The Euro competitors' maintenance schedules are not all that far off. BMW specs 60k miles, Audi is even shorter at 35k. If paying $200-300 to have spark plugs replaced every few yrs is that big a deal, then really a lot of the cars in this price range won't make much sense to you. 25k mile / year with a $50+k car is gonna cost you dearly, regardless of who does your spark plugs.

I'm not sure what you consider "mod freak adrenaline junkie super cool home shadetree mechanic". I sure don't feel like one. To me, changing spark plugs has always been part and parcel to vehicular ownership. I've changed well over a hundred, on varies cars and motorcycles over the years. The 2.0T's 4 plugs took me all of 20min, and that's taking it easy and torqueing each to spec. The 3.3T does have one that is a big tricky to get to, but a lot of guys who have done it said it's no biggie with a swivel ratchet extension.

But... I get it. Some folks don't care for DIY work as part of their car ownership - especially for luxury automobiles. All is fair.

MY advice for ANYONE reading this thread is DO NOT BUY A GENESIS. Wait a few years until they have their own dealers WHO ARE NOT ASSOCIATED WITH HYUNDAI. Otherwise, with rare exceptions, you are going to get shite, BS service from a bunch of methhead toothless fuckwads.
Genesis will ALWAYS be associated with Hyundai. Do you REALLY think Lexus is not associated with Toyota? I've had great service with Genesis of Everett (WA). Loaners, etc. I've since moved to Vancouver WA and can't complain about service with Genesis of Vancouver.

I don't think anybody in their right mind would think Genesis isn't an integral part of the Hyundai car-maker conglomerate. I do think though they've made a conscious effort to minimize the amount of cross-brand platform sharing with Genesis. Not counting EV platforms like the GV60, the Stinger/G70 sisterhood is about the only one. Even then, they styled them distinctly different as hatchback and sedan. IMO, they only did it because they thought Kia needed a halo car to boost its brand cachet.

Lexus/Infiniti/Acura OTOH are full of glorified corporate clones.

Standalone dealers, not hybrid Hyundai-Genesis dealers. Standalone dealerships. But you are too - something - to understand that. I am so happy for you with your awesome service. That's great! Hooray! Let's hold a little party for you. What is your POINT???

Yes, this. My post did not at all indicate that I for a hot second thought that Genesis and Hyundai were not associated? It's so tiresome defending legitimate statements to people who don't read, and fire off the fastest knee-jerk reaction they possibly can. I am done here, thought, deleting my user now and moving. freaking f$%k, I can't believe I am here right now. Goodbye and good luck.

Someone's a bit sensitive. Good luck.

adios

Don't understand why some folks can vent that much vitriol on cars they no longer own. I've had rides I wasn't too thrilled about. Oh well... move on and find something else to get excited about. Life is too short to dwell on the negatives.

I guess the handle ViciousCycle says it all.

How many Genesis owners in an area does it take to support a standalone Genesis dealership? I would guess at least 1,000 or more. A chicken and an egg problem. Then, 2.5 years of pandemic with little or no rolling stock to sell does not make for an expanding sales volume. Who's going to front the cash for brick and mortar, dealer stock, new employees and whatever else a thriving dealership needs?

In the American market, buyers are used to going to a dealer, taking a test drive and then choosing from available stock and leaving with a new ride. Until we see that, I don't think you're going to see new standalone Genesis dealerships. It will be a cold day in hell before I buy a vehicle without seeing it and taking a test drive.

Hmmm... I do not think I would buy a car unseen either. Oh, I didn't. My dealer got one in that fit exactly what I wanted. They are going to soon be building a standalone Genesis dealership. So are many others. Some have already started or have completed their build. A new car line (and I know Genesis has been around since 2015) takes a while to establish. None of the others happened over night. Genesis has also been battling uphill for the past 2 years and still is along with most brands.

All this to say that one needs patients. If you do not have this, then it is your issue. Buying another brand may make you happy. It may not. I hope it does. I have looked at others and was not impressed. Genesis caught my eye and was at a better price point. I am happy with my vehicle and my dealer. I do agree the dealer network still needs a lot of work. It will come.

The Hyundai dealer where I bought my G70, in Manchester, NH, tells me they're going to be building a dedicated Genesis dealer in nearby Bedford. I'll have to watch for it.

I just watched this video and thought about this thread. Iwas considering it as a potential empty nester car. Now, not so much. Makes me glad I don't have to put up with the peculiarities of other car makes... in this case, BMW.

If you thought changing spark plugs every 42k miles is a chore... try needing the dealer to reprogram your battery every time the battery discharges too low. What's worse... you cannot shift the tranny out of park, unless the engine is running and the ZF can build fluid pressure. Without that, the only way is to crawl under the car, use a special tool to access a doohickey on the ZF tranny, then use another tool to hold it open. WTF?!

So far, I've been okay with the issues I've come across with the Stinger/G70. I don't think I'd be okay with some of the stuff mentioned in this vid.

While the "Genesis service" is a nice add how many people view that as the reason they got the car?

It wasn't even a decision factor for me.

Having experienced it over four years in Canada, absolutely excellent, it is a valid consideration in a vehicle purchase right now.

I typed major and deleted it. The car will always be front and center, however as a value added service and reducing cost of ownership/piece of mind over the years cannot beat it.

Vehicle pickup/droppoff and a Genesis loaner every time, no matter how long the service is. Sold on this.
