GV60 Canadian Deposit - Local Dealer Information & Timelines

Oh I completely agree. In the same situation, just disappointing that we’re choosing to pay $15,000 more for a very similar vehicle without having many options. Canadian market just doesn’t get enough focus from the automakers compared to our southern neighbors. We’re not even close to 10% of their allocation on many models unfortunately
Isn't the population of Canada about 10% of the population of the USA?

What’s the consensus on resale value in 1-2 years? Will it hold like they are for high demand vehicles today? My current plan is to take delivery of the GV60 advanced and drive it until the ioniq 5 ultimate (or ioniq 6?) is delivered. At that time, would ideally sell the GV60 for close to what I’ll pay in 2022 (hopefully). I drive around 40,000 km a year, so expect to have higher depreciation…

Feel the same way.
Ioniq 5 ultimate is 63 k with taxes in BC
GV60 performance 90K With taxes in BC
Still buying GV60 because want ev and think its a good drive until the ioniq comes.

That's not truly apples-to-apples. The Ultimate is comparable to the Advanced, which is probably $10k post-tax less, so $63 vs $80 ish using rough figures.

The Ioniq is a good deal, no question. I highly doubt they will continue to sell at that price though, IMO. When you consider the number of new EV platforms coming, and the demand for lithium, cobalt and other rare earth materials, IMO, I highly doubt EV's will be declining in value significantly.

We are, however we are no where near 10% of American allotment. The EV6 and Ioniq had both delivered almost 10,000 units by end of April in the USA and Canada had less then 500 combined. So although we’re roughly 10% of the size we have only received about 2% of the product

Questions:

1. Will gas remain at such a high price in the following two years?
2. Chargin is not free, how much is it to drive 40,000km?
3. What is the depreciation of the EV? Is it greater or smaller than gas vehicles?

Thanks
Well 2 out of 3 if not all 3 questions are virtually impossible to answer.

1) Although gas could drop there doesn’t seem to be a lot of belief in long term relief so $2.00 a liter is probably going to be the norm, at least on average over the next 5 years, although the Russia Ukraine situation could obviously have a significant impact on this long term.

2) depending on where you charge and where you live the savings could me massive or negligible. At home charging is very affordable. Prices could increase but probably not to the rates of gas in the short term. In Manitoba our rates are 9.6c per KW. If you add a 10% loss to the 77kw battery and guess an average of 350km per charge we would pay $8.25 per “tank” and 40,000km would be 114.3 charges for a total of $942.86. There are other charges associated with electricity like a monthly surcharge. Since we already pay it on our monthly bill I haven’t included that but technically you could. If we upgrade beyond 200 amps that charge is an additional $10 per month. Even with that the $1060 annual, plus tax is still $1200. If you average 10l per 100 KM in a gas car with $2 per liter that’s $8000 per year, or about 7x the cost. If you get I to supercharging and other provinces with different energy rates those numbers could change dramatically.

3) in the current market there appears to be only appreciation on electric but that probably won’t last forever. Tesla has always been one of the best value holding % of any make. With the constant price increases you could have purchased a model 3 3 years ago and driven it 20,000km a year and still sell it for more then you paid, but we’re in a crazy used car market for all vehicles not just electric. There is probably more to be said in depreciation 2-3 years after a model has been out based upon market, reliability, repelcment cost etc but with the 5 years complimentary maintenance, potential internet rate increases and lower over all maintenance costs many factors could come into play, but then again a significant recession could also lower demand and pricing too on all vehicles

Well right now I'm trading in my truck for more than I bought it for 3 years ago. That perfect storm won't likely happen again. Also at the moment I'm spending 700$ a month on fuel. After everything is all said and done my financing should be in the range of $600 a month.

Seems like a pretty painless upgrade to me. I know I won't necessarily be saving money, but at the end of the day, I'll have a vehicle that's valued much higher and I won't be simply burning money for no reason either.
That's exactly what i have as well. but i don't do 40000km. but I have a work place with free level 2 charging, I don't even need to charge it in home.
I totally can get rid of my entire gas cost. I just have to be early and charge up, once a week.

I made $1,000 deposit for Advanced trim on April 29, 2022 in Toronto.
Any chance to get delivery this year?
If not, I am considering to cancel my pre-order and move to 2023 Mercedes GLC which is expected to arrive early 2023.
We placed preorder on May 6 - Performance Model . I am #365 on build li

Live in Edmonton) I Received an e-mail May 7 informing us that:

“We are currently in between model
years, 2022 production has been closed so there is
a high chance your Genesis will be a 2023. Factory
orders can take between 4-8 months, we currently
do not have an ETA for your Genesis but will
update you as soon as we do and that until we are
assigned a VIN we will not have any updates
regarding an arrival date of your Genesis. Your
next update will be in the second week of July.”

I was also informed test drive should available shortly as dealer is expecting their first GV60 this week.

To be honest, Ford CEO yesterday said there would be a EV price war next year. It really makes me hesitate to proceed my order.

i wonder if the 2023 will have any of the deleted 2022 features?

Yeah, I have no doubts that when materials and components become more readily available to manufacturer's, that they won't hesitate to pump out as many EV's as they can. There's going to be a huge market for cheaper EV's which specifically target those who will only spend 25k on a new car.

It wouldn't make much sense to make a bunch of cheap cars right now considering the hurdles that companies are struggling with in terms of volume/demand.

That said, I wouldn't be concerned with this impacting the price or resale of your GV60. Any vehicle with a price point that low will never compare.

I don’t know but will ask dealer for more details when we go for our test drive and will post any updates I receive shortly afterwards

Also on the apples to oranges comparison, the $63K quoted for the Kia is likely before $2K of freight and PDI and another $1K in dealer admin fees, while the Genesis is all-in.

I, also, expect to almost never need to charge at home. I can charge at the office, and also have a couple free 6kw chargers at nearby retailers.

What's your location generally? I don't think there are any free charging stations in Toronto area unless I'm missing something...

I am skeptical of the article.
1) Technology manufacturing cost improvements are generally quite linear. They may have s temp slope, but we generally don’t see stepwise change, so I doubt something magical will happen next year.
2) The article says that the price war is expected to happen in the low end of the segment, not where we’re buying.

I do wonder about pricing risks related to demand declines from the economic tightening now going on across NA.

i wonder if the 2023 will have any of the deleted 2022 features?
That will be heavily dependent on why the feature was missing in the first place. HDA2 is absent due to a chip shortage, I suspect we’ll see it back when supplies are no longer tight. IFLS and digital side mirrors are absent due to regulation, we‘ll likely see them once they can sell them across NA.

I’m in Calgary. I suspect they are free here because there are so few EVs. If I offer charging, I don’t have to worry too much that my bill will skyrocket, because it will likely be rarely used. In Ontario, BC and Quebec, that may not be the case.
