  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 2.5 vs Santa Fe Calligraphy

I just found out that the HUD is only available with the 3.5.
Probably not a deal breaker, but I would like it I think
FWIW I have a HUD in my current vehicle and usually forget to even look at it. Kinda surprised me as I always wanted a car with one and now that I have it I rarely even use it.

Yup, no HUD would be a deal breaker for me.

I never had a HUD, but I really think that having one would be useful. It is not a deal-breaker for me though. Too many other pluses on this car.

Agreed… I’ve had HUD on several of my recent
vehicles… I find it to be distracting… and could easily live without it…

I fell in love with the GV70 about a year ago. I test drove the 3.5 and loved the power and handling. But it is a stretch for my budget. I never really considered the 2.0 because I wanted it all.

Fast forward to now. I test drove Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy. It drove pretty nice, and has pretty good acceleration. As far as I can tell, it has all of the cool technology features of the sport prestige. It’s roughly 20k less than a GV70 3.5 sport prestige. I am almost sold on it. The problem is, it doesn’t look anywhere as nice as a GV70 and certainly has more plastic interior parts.

So then I started thinking: maybe compromise and get GV70 2.0. I haven’t driven one yet, but I guess the acceleration is comparable to the Santa Fe. It’s price is about midway between a 3.5 sport prestige and the Santa fe

Maybe I’m just looking for somebody to talk me off of this ledge.

Actually this is a good valid discussion. I’ve been thinking in two years when I’m going to trade in my 3.5 Sport Advanced would I buy another $65k vehicle or should I just get the 2.5 this time and save some coin. Then I loaded up a Santa Fe Calligraphy Sage green with Beige interior playing on the Hyundai website and even saved more coin. I just don’t think I could give up the rear wheel drive bias AWD for a front drive AWD. But it’s a great looking vehicle on their build website 👍🏻

I can tell you with the FWD bias the Santa Fe is amazing on snow, and it's surprisingly quick, but it's also not any fun to drive. RWD bias is where it's at. The Santa Fe does have diff lock though which is pretty dang cool.

Yes, the Santa Fe has a similar engine but it is tuned with more horsepower on the Genesis, with an 8 speed transmission that is currently better than the massive recalls the Hyundai's 8 speed double clutch transmission is having!

And launch control is a hoot! ;)

I once again visited the local Genesis dealer 2 days ago (also a Hyundai dealer). So, I was able to see the GV70 and Santa Fe Calligraphy at the same time. As others have said, no comparison. But, I have to because of price. The Santa Fe seems to be in good supply and they are now offering it at $2750 under MSRP. That brings it to $42745, roughly $13000 less than a GV70 2.5 Prestige, $24000 less than a 3.5.
But, I really love the GV70. It has that look that stands out in a crowd, where the Santa Fe for the most part looks like every other plane jane SUV. The Santa Fe seems fairly peppy to me with the 2.5T, which is important to me. As I mentioned before, I've only driven the 3.5T GV70, but I would expect the 2.5 GV70 to accelerate about the same as the Santa Fe.

Yesterday for the first time, I've seen Genesis GV70 ads during the football game. It might be a sign from above. :)
I'm a (young) 67 year old retiree and I keep my vehicles for about 10 years. So, I want to make the right decision. I like a fun driving vehicle.
The price of a 3.5T is a stretch for me, but not out of the question. 2.5T Prestige seems like a good compromise.
What to do!? I think I'll wait it out hoping for a GV70, hoping the supply increases and I can get just a little bit of price relief. They do have a low mileage used 3.5T Prestige on the lot, asking $64000 which I think is too much.

Sorry for all of my ramblings.

Sounds familiar. This is the place to ramble! I had similar thoughts in my search. I was seriously considering a Sorento or Telluride but the markups were ridiculous and the wait times were 12+ months. Because markups were so high, I started looking at Acura and Lexus. I didn't like Acura's infotainment controls at all and found them a bit sub-luxury. The Lexus RX drove great but was a bit boring and again infotainment was very dated. The GV70 jumps up and slaps you in the face. ;)

I got the 2.5T Prestige and I think the acceleration is better than the Santa Fe or Sorento...especially if you use launch control! I chose luxury over performance so the 19" wheels and the smaller engine was a great fit for me. I also drive 100 KM a day so gas mileage is a consideration as well.

I have a 2020 Santa Fe Calligraphy and I absolutely love it. It has everything I want except for a bathroom. My lease is up in late Nov and I'm seriously trying to decide whether to buy it or not, thats how much I love it. But I had a 2016 Genesis sedan and I was nuts about it but couldn't afford to but it when my lease expired. But it got in my blood and I'm now trying to decide whether to buy the Santa Fe with 25,500 or get a GV70 and have to make payments again since I can't buy it outright. I test drive the GV70 tomorrow . The 2.5 since I can't go the 3.5 route.
To be honest I think the Santa Fe is a better looking SUV than the GV70. It also looks like it has move room in the back seat than the GV70.

I hope that I like/don't like the GV70 tomorrow. lol
