  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 Rearview Mirror Open?

Another very good YouTube video that shows how to do the MirrorTap wires. This is a better video that actually shows you how to insert the wire taps.

Another MirrorTap installation video
Thanks for the video. That guy is great. Although there was some work getting the right size so seems like you need to have the various sizes to get the right fit. I'll be ordering the tap wires. I'll probably stick with the suction cup mount and have it a little lower and see if that works..

Does any of this circuit and taps support enough amps for a dash cam? I know a 12V to 5V converter would be needed.

What is the current spec for your dash cam? I would not expect it to be higher than a radar detector.

Not sure. It will depend on how much the cam will be pulling, I would guess not very much but I haven’t looked at cams at all

you should get the kit with all the wire tap variations :)

Well here’s the actual wiring diagram and like I said, white is ignition and black wire is ground
Edit: nevermind, got it

Success! It was actually easier to open and get access to the rearview wiring harness than my G70.

The middle cover where you see cutouts is actually a snap-on plate. Pry it off carefully with a small flat head screwdriver. Once out, you will see the wiring harness cable plugged in. Pinch the harness tab and pull the harness. The ground is the black wire and the ignition power is the white wire.

I used the MirrorTap from mirrortap.com or you can get it from Amazon - Amazon.com: MirrorTap MTX-1010, RJ-11,10" Long Overall Length, Patented Radar Detector Power Cord with 2 Amp in-Line Fuse, Military Grade Taps, Made in USA : Electronics

Choose the correct black and red wire from the kit that will fit in the back of the harness in the white and black wire positions, then use the tie-wrap to secure it, plug the harness back in, snap the cover back on, plug your radar detector and turn on your GV70. Viola, it works great.

oh yeah my radar detector is a Uniden R7
Well what's simple for some is very difficult for me. I got the kit with the various size connectors. First of all getting anything wedged in those tiny gaps is like micro-surgery to me. Obviously you have to go into the back where the wires are already there so you can plug it back in right? Well of course I get the kit and the smallest wire taps are the only ones that can be wedged in there (maybe without breaking the tab off) and wouldn't you know the smallest black wire had the exposed tab already snapped off right out of the bag so that sucks. No way are any of the larger one's going in there so I'll have to go through the hassle of returning it. And I'm still not convinced I can even get those small ones in there without a problem. I have a bad left hand/wrist due to injury and that limited work space with the mirror in the way it's just harder than it was for you.

Also when it's all connected the new lead wire to the radar detector has to get through that removable plate. Not sure how that goes and lastly I did not order a long enough cord as I do not want that close the mirror. Back to the drawing board.... errrrrrr.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. When I first got this kit for my G70, I had the same issues and broke off a few of those taps and had to reorder them. It just seems to me that there is more room to maneuver the wiring harness on the GV70 than the G70. I tell you, in spite of me thinking it was simple, I was drenched with sweat coz silly me thinking I don’t need to run the AC.

One thing, once you find the proper fit for one of those wire taps, I would recommend you using one of the zip ties to keep those taps and the harness together not moveable.

As far as having the cable for the wire tap, I had to finagle it through the gap and snap the cover back in. It felt that it won’t fit at all or will not snap back in, but it did. Just had to play with it some.

Thanks. Looks like I will just continue to use the extension cord from under the arm rest. I can see myself breaking off one of those those minute tabs trying to jam it in and that will be that. Even radar boy had trouble on his video.

I may just run wires to the fuse box. My detector will be delivered tomorrow and today I was messing around with the bracket that will hold it below the mirror. I was fumbling with it and I wondered to myself how much fun it’s going to be trying to make it look factory + work as intended.

Heads up. I found this adapter that looks promising and even better - once they develop one for Genesis vehicles. I sent an email asking (and hoping) that they may develop an adapter for Genesis cars. I will post here again with their response.

Thanks. I can't make the mirror tap work. At least not now with a broken hand. It's like micro-surgery to get those taps wedged in there.

I have this same adapter on my Tacoma Pro. works great but with the Genesis looks kinda tight when remove cover to fit in there.

Well first of all, there is no cover to remove and at least for my device, I have plenty of room. the only thing that would have been better is if the port is higher up so one does not see anythIng that is plugged into it.

Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the other connectors in the overhead? Looking for stuff under the larger surrounding cover too.

I'm going to chime in one more time. The ingress to the rear view mirror tap is way to complicated and I would not advise the ordering of the above access ( or lack there of ) to complete this task. It is tiny baby squirrels to get it done. Find a better way.

We decided against it. Routed the Radar Detector Cable to the fuse box instead.

Had to use flash to make the cable visible, it blends in/almost disappears against the black molding.

Looks good. I don't understand why after 3 decades radar detectors cannot be USB or connected in any other way. It's the same old movie with a cigarette plug or hard wired into a fuse.

How do you get the larger surrounding cover off safely?

Edit: NM figured that out. Press out gently from the middle slot to work the upper clips loose

Sorry I wasn’t able to answer your question in a timely fashion. Glad you were able to figure it out.
