GV80 and G80 Software update

I just went back to the nav updater tool and just started downloading.... something. I just selected the 2021 G80 and started. Doesn't tell me what version of software I'm downloading tho.
 
I just performed the update. The software updating tool (PC based) formatted the USB stick to exfat and copied on the update. I started the car and plugged in the USB stick. I was offered similar to "Update Now", "Background Update", "Schedule Update" and "Cancel". I selected Update Now and went for a drive. It does sit for 10-15 minutes at 0% progress, probably while the files are copied to the car. Then the 0-100% starts progressing which is probably when the car is decompressing the files. After that is another 0-100% wait which is labelled as taking approx. 15 minutes. I think this is the actual update in progress. After approx. 15 minutes the system then reboots and comes back on after maybe 1 minute, with a message showing maybe 10 seconds later that the update was completed successfully. It will be interesting to see are there any visible differences. Has anybody been brave enough to try the "Background Update" or "Schedule Update" options?

Bless you for describing the process. It helped reassure me that it was downloading properly and wasn't glitching. Your description pretty much was my exact experience (although I was given the USB already preloaded from the dealership). Total time from beginning to end was about 50 min for me for those of you wondering.

There are definitely some visible updates happening. Instead of the ill-conceived PAUSE ROUTE button showing it's now CANCEL ROUTE (which makes a lot more sense).

You will need patience on the update. Full update takes about one hour with car on. Progress takes a while to get off 0, but does move.

Looking at the downloaded files majority are archives. Looks like the system decompress them once the installation starts.

Long is an understatement. Took me 2 hours from download to transfer to car and updated.

Did the alert indicate what files/features were in the OTA update? I almost hate to admit this but I took delivery in January 2021 and have never downloaded and installed the System/NAV update after hearing some of the horror stories here. My last update was at the factory on 3-2-2020. I've had exactly ZERO issues with my GV so I wasn't in any hurry to go through that process but I'd love to get the OTA but haven't got the alert yet.

I think you fear of "the horror stories" is misplaced. If you look more closely at the problems with update reported not his website I think you will see a pattern that should reassure you.

1. Posts regarding updates for the GV80 appear to be from folks who were trying to figure out how to perform the update, or who had experienced confusion or concern during the update process, not those who had problems caused by the update.

2. I read numerous posts by people who lost certain functionality after an update or who prefer how certain things looked or worked prior to an update. I got the impression that those issues were from folks who had different and older vehicles.
 
I’ve owned my 2921 G80 for four weeks now. After owning car for a few days, while parking, I got a message for an OTA download. Said to shut car off and it would take 15 minutes. Also said I would not be able to start or run car while downloading. Well, I was going to my favorite coffee shop anyway, so I touched ok and shut engine off. I guess it downloaded ok because when I returned and started car, everything worked.
Don’t know what the OTA download was but all is well. I think it may have been a map update, but not sure.

True. I don’t know. The car was so New to me at the time, i did not notice what it was for.
 
I did the update today using a 64GB SD card and USB reader without any issues. The software reformatted it automatically and I had it idling for about 25 min, 50% complete before heading to the golf course 10 min away and by the time I got there it was @ 72% (updates faster with more power). I shut her off and it completed without issue while I was at the driving range. I immediately noticed the new home screen changed to a more attractive clouds image rather than the original one of the St. Petersburg, FL nightime skyline which I was already getting tired of after 4 days. I haven't checked further yet and will update later if I find other significant changes.

Installed latest (Nov 21) update this morning, all went well (after the initial worry about no progress for first 15 mins). Total update took about 50 mins, left car running entire time. Head unit rebooted after the update and saw some of the new features, main one is that you can 1) change the color of your car so that the camera views show your color vs just the silver you had before and also can change the overall color theme to a "copper rust" which in my opinion is just blue. But I like alot better as now it matches ambient light color choice and gauge choice better.
 
Buggy Update

I have updated my 2015 g80 ultimate few days back with the latest software (usa based). The software installed successfully and everything seems working perfect expect the localization that some of the words are missing in setting menu.

Is there any way to re-install the same version of the software?

I tried installing the latest canadian version, but it seems not supppported as the update button stays disabled.
