  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Bugs & Other Issues

Was it as noisy during your test drive? Go to the dealer and test another one out.
No but I did not stand outside it when it was idling. It's clearly related to AC running while car is on. You cannot hear it all inside the vehicle. I just want to know if there is a fix from Genesis.

Is this actually something that needs to be fixed? Is the noise that bad?
The fan on my Cadenza is very quiet. Clearly, it does not move much air. As a result, the AC on the Cadenza does not cool very well with the car sitting still. (It can freeze you out when the car is moving.)
The fan on my G80 is louder, but the AC also cools way better sitting still.

I would certainly trade some fan noise for better AC cooling sitting still.

The AC works great but yes I would prefer to reduce the noise on the outside. I've owned no other car with that loud of a fan noise. Again, only when outside vehicle.

No. The noise started 3 months after I purchased. The interior vibration started about the same time.

Updates
I thought I would update the thread. I took delivery of the Advanced 2.5T(replacement for my bugged Select 2.5T). That said, right off the lot I noticed major improvements.

The Improvements
The stop-start engine in the Select was jerky/harsh, now in the Advanced it feels like a gentle push. The steering wheel road vibrations are noticeably better. Much smoother ride. The electronics seem to be funtioning better. Of note, the Select was manufactured closer to october 2020, this one was made April 2021. Maybe some kinks got worked out, time will tell.

I have not received my GV80 yet, but I will take a listen when it arrives. Have you ever owned a turbo charged car? Turbos (especially twin turbo) generate a lot of heat, a lot.. so the cooling requirements are significantly increased

So went back to dealer today and it is a recognized issue. No fix yet but many complaints.

Curious if anyone has noticed this on their GV80. The small panels just behind the front wheels are coming loose. I was able to get one side to “pop” back in place but the clip on the other is broke. Haven’t contacted dealer yet so I will let you know after speaking with them.
Looking at the photo, the top left clip is failing and the panel is pulling away from the vehicle. Sorry but I did not get a pic of the part before I got it to go back in place. But it was sticking out away from the vehicle about 3/8”.

Thats another strange one. Do you, by chance, use a automated car wash?

NEVER! Hand wash always

Noticed not long after I purchased that the lower trim piece of the rear bumper just behind the tire did the same thing. I popped it back in place and haven’t noticed it since. But for BOTH of the same front trim pieces to have come loose in the same place seems like an issue. Again one clip has actually broke. The other just pulled out of its hole.

Jerkiness during light acceleration from 20-30 mph.

I've noticed a "jerkiness" during light acceleration from 20 to 30 mph in my 3.5 advance plus. I am at 1100 miles using only premium top-tier fuel. Anyone else noticed this? Suggestions?
Yup, I've noticed a jerkiness as well from low speeds with our 3.5 Advance when accelerating from a stop up to around that speed. Feels like the transmission can't decide when to let go of the lower gear to upshift to the higher gear. I'm using premium fuel as well. Seems like a transmission mapping issue.

Yesterday when I was out driving around town I just happened to test the different drive modes. I usually leave it in COMFORT Mode, but I switched it to ECO mode, when I was pulling away from a stop light I believe I felt a jerkiness when shifting in a lower gear. This was the first time this happened.
I switched back to COMFORT mode and all shifts were smooth and no jerkiness. I also tried the SPORT mode and right away the seat boasters tightened up and I believe the performance increased (maybe my imagination).

Just curious -- I haven't checked it yet. Is it possible the the auto start/stop does not work in Comfort? It can give quite a jolt, I thought someone hit me from the rear the first time I felt it. I drive in Eco 90% of the time -- I'll check today in comfort mode

I got to. Drive my GV80 3.5 on the 226A Diamondback road in NC. 200 turns in 12 miles. All in sport mode. The car was super responsive around corners with great acceleration. It's a whole different car in sport mode. I was very impressed!

Auto Start/Stop isn't the smoothest when using it with Auto Hold. definitely could use some programming (timing) refinement!

It does seem worse with Auto Hold -- it does work n Comfort as well as Eco and probably the other modes

ASG works on all modes except for sport mode.

Update on my panel issues. I got to thinking about it and had just gone in for my first service which included oil change and tire rotation. When it was put on the lift, the feet of the lift pushed on the panels and popped the clips that hold the panels on. The indentation from the lift feet were in the bottom of the panel. I took it back to dealer that did the work and they are ordering the clips to replace what’s broke. I told them to just mail them to me because I’m not sure I want them “repairing” something that I’m not sure they know how to repair. I feel like I know more than they do about this vehicle.
Also on a side note I noticed one of the covers/shields under the hood was not put back on correctly after oil change. Just don’t have a lot of confidence in this dealer.

After buying my GV80 I had several problems related to the Nav and infotainment system. I was disappointed with the lack of documentation which came with the car. I found a navigation system manual in the glove compartment, but it was basically useless. It contained a QR code to scan which led to a few videos and some shallow overviews of operation, but which did not answer any of my questions.

I later discovered that the navigation and infotainment hardware is very similar (if not identical) to that in the 2021 G80. I located a pdf manual which I have found quite useful.

G80 Gen6 Premium Navigation Manual

I found a copy of of the big (~600 page) owners manual in the cargo area, but also wanted a searchable copy. I was unable to find a pdf of that full manual on the genesis website but did find this:

GV80 Manual from ownersman.com

What I did to make them more useful was move into iCloud Drive, and load them into Apple Books app. I opened them on both my iPad and iPhone to cache them on local storage so I can search or read them even if I have weak or no cell signal.

The navigation system is exactly the same for the G80 and GV80. This is a great find.
