If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Bugs & Other Issues

Everyone talks about how quiet the vehicle is and maybe I’m expecting too much, but I don’t notice any significant noise reduction. On the highway I actually notice almost every sound, cars passing by, loud car noise of other cars, the wind, and obviously tire noise as i have the 22 in wheel. The noise is actually one of the things that I notice the most and between that and the ride quality with the 22s those are the only things I’m unimpressed by thus far.

Wondering what trim you have and if it includes the Active Noise Cancellation available in the Prestige?

I don’t hear any of these sounds. I’d have your seals checked on windows and doors to see if you have something out of alignment causing it not to seal properly. Is the sound coming from any specific area?

I have the 3.5t prestige. It’s an automatic feature right, nothing to manually turn on in the infottsystem?

I’m usually in the driver side so driver front of the vehicle is where I hear all the sound. I’ll have to pay more attention on the passenger side when my husband is driving.

I would have it checked. I rarely have my radio on. Just a habit I got into a long time ago but I'm loving the radio on this car and try to remember to turn it on so I can enjoy it, and I really don't hear anything outside of my car, not even tire noise on the 22s.

Hmmm, that’s good to know! Hopefully it is something that can be fixed. I’m not ready to deal with the dealerships just yet though, the ones close are just ok nothing spectacular about there CS and knowledge. I’ll probably mention it when I have to take it in for maintenance.

tartaric... If you go to the Setup window, you'll find a window that provides you with several options for noise cancellation, from 'None" to maximum.

i believe this is for the engine sounds and not the active noise cancellation for the car. Road active noise control is automatic and not adjustable. It has to do with the types of glass in the car and seals and microphones under the car. (Make sure your headrest is in the correct position as it might help). Active sound is an enhanced engine sound.

ROAD ACTIVE NOISE
CONTROL (IF EQUIPPED)
Road Active Noise Control helps reduce noise caused while driving.
The system may not operate properly in the following conditions:
- Any of the window is open
- Any of the door is open
- The sunroof is open
- The liftgate is open
- Vehicle’s microphone and speaker is blocked by loads
System Malfunction

ACTIVE SOUND DESIGN (IF
EQUIPPED)
• Active Sound Design is a function that provides enhanced virtual engine sound when the driver is depressing the accelerator pedal.
• You can activate or deactivate Active Sound Design function from the Settings menu in the infotainment system screen. Select:
- Setup → Vehicle Settings → Active Sound Design → Ehanced/Standard/ Minimized/Off, or
- Setup → Sound Settings → Active Sound Design → Enhanced/ Standard/Minimized/Off
See additional information in supplied Infotainment Manual.
• Any unauthorized replacement of the vehicle’s speaker and amplifier may cause Active Sound Design to malfunction.

SEMI ACTIVE ENGINE MOUNT
(IF EQUIPPED)
If the Semi Active Engine Mount is equipped to improve vehicle’s noise and vibration, you may hear a clack noise from the solenoid valve of the semi active engine mount when the vehicle enters or exits a certain mode such as speed or engine RPM. This is a normal condition and is not a malfunction of the system.

When Road Active Noise Control is not working properly, this warning message will appear on the cluster LCD display. If this occurs, have the system inspected by an authorized retailer of Genesis Branded products.

Head rest in the correct position? How do I know what position that is?

22 inch wheels will always be louder and give you a more harsh ride in any car. Both the Jaguar and Mercedes dealers I dealt with in the past advised me to go 20” Max. 20” seems to be the sweet spot. I have the Advanced 4 cylinder 2.5T. Absolutely quiet at any speed. When my stereo is on I only hear music. When I park I sometimes forget that I already turned the engine off and restart just to check. I can’t hear the engine at all when stopped or parked.

I’d like more info on that also. Not position as much as how it affects noise control.

I’m not sure it has anything to do with the noise cancelation but when they were coming up with the noise cancelation they placed microphones on the headrests to calibrate the opposing sound. I adjusted my headrest as mentioned in the manual and don’t have any noise issues. So who knows if it works or not. But couldn’t hurt to try. It’s probably far fetched but what will it hurt?

Thanx for the reply. At least it’ll make us aware of the HR adjustment. :)

Thanks. When I was reading about it it said...

The RANC is able to conduct accurate noise analysis and rapid computation to combat road noise for the driver’s seat, the passenger seat and rear seats separately.
---------
My take on that is that there is some sensor in the headrests if they can do it separately for each occupant. I might be wrong but it can't hurt to try the headrests to see if they are part of the equation. It might be why some of us have a super quiet ride and some do not in the same trim cars.

This page also talks about...

The system distributes the cancelation sound through the car’s speakers. Each seat receives a dedicated signal tailored to what the car’s interior mics detect at each position.

Hyundai's Luxury SUV Mixes Mics and Math for a Silent Ride

What better place to put those mics than in the headrests that are nearest to the ears of the occupant.

At least that's where I would have put them.

Can’t hurt! I’ll def adjust next time I get in the car. Thanks!

I believe this one of the mics. There are six of them around the headliner to sample sounds from multiple places. At first I thought they were fasteners But their positioning wouldn’t make sense if they were.E99E9736-5BF4-4D2C-AE6F-8D21A5C839A8.webp

I believe you are correct, this video shows their placement at 1:33. There are two more under the hand holds at the driver's and passenger door along the headliner.

Perhaps those having noise problems have a mic that isn't working properly.

Yup. Didn’t see those. Two near each outboard head position.

So mic position has been found, so my headrest theory doesn't hold water. But it's always safest to adjust the headrest in a car to be optimal for accidents. :)
