  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 Reviews

What would they have against either? I agree that in this class it will need both. Lack of massage seats is one of the sticking points for me as well as some others I speak with about the car.

Maybe they haven't done enough research on air suspension. How many of their cars have it? (newer ones)

Going from interviews, it would appear Albert Biermann is not a fan of air suspension. Prior to his arrival, it was offered in the Equus and Hyundai Genesis (European versions).

“In our G90 you will not find any air suspension or active roll-bars, or active whatever. A camera sensing the road, and this stuff. It’s stupid," Biermann said. "We have a solid Hyundai steel platform, tonnes of high-strength steel—okay, it’s a little bit heavier than the other cars—and we have adjustable shock absorbers, and that’s it."

Luxury Cars Are Needlessly Complicated, Genesis Boss Says

As for massage seats, who knows? Certainly a lot more mechanically simple and cheaper than the air cells in the GV80.

I'm also getting quite tired of hearing from you about your invisible army. If they cared enough, ask them to join. Here, your opinions are yours only. You represent no consensus whatsoever.

I could be wrong but I don't think any of their direct competitors offer either. While they would love to pull customers away from the top tier (Audi, BMW, MB, Porcshe, etc.) luxury SUV brands, and will do so, they are realistically looking to be the leader in the second tier (Lexus, Cadillac, Acura, Volvo, etc.). Lexus is the sales leader of the entire mid-size luxury SUV segment by more than double the 2nd place X5 and it doesn't have massage seats or air suspension.

Edit: I haven't look but thinking about it some may offer massage seats.

He must have changed his mind since the GV80 employs that technology.

Possibly, but since his primary work is on the chassis (as we all know from his past with BMW) and not software, that may have been out of his control. Suspension tuning however is certainly within his domain, and that's still coil springs.

Rubbish excuse, I don't buy it. It's the same warranty as on the Equus. Especially on something as mechanically simple as massage seats.

Genesis is doing this because they have something against air suspension and massage seats.
Agree. Like poor reliability. Air suspension has not been great on any car. Personally, I'd not buy one with it if I was going to keep it out of warranty.

Cost is a factor too. If you read this or any forum you will see "they should have (insert favorite toy) on a car like this". If you add together all those I wants the price would probably go up at least 5k to 10k more. At some increased price point you lose sales to price rather than gain them from offering lots of goodies. There is a name for that curve but it escapes me right now.

I have no invisible army. I have never even intimated that I represent any consensus, but I constant share what's being discussed here on the forum and what is being announced. Most folks don't care about forums or have the time. Yes, everyone's opinions are our own. There are a bunch of us who are highly intrigued by what Genesis is doing. All I'm trying to say is that I'm not the only one who expects certain things on cars at this price point. I know not all cars have everything and have posted that in threads before. There are plenty of posters who have shared the same thoughts about what isn't being offered right now. It's not a big deal. Feel free to not read my posts. There are plenty of posters on my audio and sports forums who I don't read, but I also don't call them out or tell them how tired I am of them. That's just me though. I don't take forums that seriously, but many do.

It's not putting down the GV80, nor is it putting down Genesis. Some folks seem to get upset when anyone posts anything negative about Genesis. As much as I post about things I want, I also post great thoughts about what they have done.

The biggest things for me will be how does it drive. Will it be faster than 6.0 0-60. Will it be fun to drive. How comfortable will it be on New England roads and will the steering be numb or have some feeling for the road. That, to me is the most important thing. I'm glad they put the air bags in the driver seat. That's one thing I love about the Mercedes.

Oh please, I'm not referring to your agreement with other members on this board, I'm referring to how you constantly allude to your group of "real life friends and colleagues" that you frequently mention "who are also interested in the GV80" who also happen to "agree with me on it not having XXX and not being enough of a brand experience that make it difficult consider due to XXX". I'm not going to go through your entire post history, but more often than not, your comments always make it sound as if you have some kind of invisible posse behind you who just happen to agree with your opinions, and it gets quite tiring to read after a while. If your real life friends are so interested in this vehicle, ask them to come post on this board. Speak for yourself, unless you have statistical data. For goodness sakes, it's a car. If you don't buy it, others will.

For now, I think this squabble over what the car has and doesn't have with its features is meaningless, since there exist no solid details other than dealer hearsay from some of the members on here, which in itself isn't even consistent. I understand that speculation keeps the board active. But making every piece of speculation sound like you've lost faith in the brand and vehicle over and over as you proudly proclaim your invisible posse agrees with you as you brag about your Jaguar (which this vehicle doesn't even compete with) doesn't make for a good repeated reading.

So sorry that my posts bother you. I don't brag about my car, other than it's a blast to drive and I love most things about it. (it's also my point of reference and I have spent a lot of time recently in the F Pace, so I also post about that. I love it when others post about their X5's or other SUV's they own or may own as it's a great point of reference).

I would love to have an SUV that is really fun to drive and offers most of the luxury items that the Mercedes gives you, but the more I'm on the forum, it seems that it's up against the Lexus, Acura (I don't even think they are in the same mix as these cars) and Infinity. If so, Genesis seems to have better vehicles already. Let's see what this one does against the SUV's.

I'm not putting down Genesis, just pointing out many things they haven't done (yet) to get many of the buyers of top luxury brands (separate dealers is probably the biggest thing). There are many other posters who point these things out constantly. If I wasn't a believer for the most part, I wouldn't spend my time here to learn more and converse with some great owners or potential owners.

When I mention my buddies, it's just who I am and how I talk I guess. I NEVER ever think that what I want or what some others want or demand in anything will please everyone. I am fully disabled and have the time to enjoy boards within my hobbies. My buddies are only on a private college sports board we have. I do the research and share on a few topics and cars/SUV's are one of those topics. There is a core group who has purchased vehicles that I've shared as I know what each one wants since we talk about cars a lot of the time. I can understand how that may bother you and some others, so I'll try not to mention them again. That's not a promise, but I will try to.

As much as I love forums and learning about new things and meeting new and mostly fun folks around the world, it's difficult for me to communicate now days. It's not an excuse and I'm not looking for anything other than a spec of understanding. Having cognitive issues makes is very difficult to remember what I've posted before and in which threads. That is a reason for some of my redundancy. I also just type in the same way that I'd speak and there is a huge difference when you do that. Many folks do on the net and that's why many come off as jerks (I know I often can) and some are able to type for the medium and it reads much better.

I'm more in line with ctsooner than this rant. And I have the CA Genesis model catalogue brochure which includes the GV80 colours, trims, features, which is far from dealer hearsay. US GV80 trims might differ, but the other models are closely aligned between US and Canada so I'd assume they will be close.

Thanks Spill. We will find out soon enough and until then talk about it post about it all.

Though short I found some interesting details in this article specially in the “Driver Assistance” section that I wasn’t aware of before for example I like the rear cross traffic alert system but always wished it had braking along with it as other cars do. Apparently the GV80 does have it. It would be the first and so far, only one to have it in the Genesis or Hyundai lineup. Then there’s the automated lane change and so on.

Thanks for sharing, I’m big CU fan also. I wouldn’t buy a car with looking at what CU has to say first. I can’t wait to see their review. When the main stream auto press starts reviewing GV80 we'll learn more about the GV80's personality.

I too am a big fan of CR if you received the last issue there's a wealth of useful information in. It could be for me the best one so far since it deals strictly with autos. It's depth of knowledge is staggering and the ability to explain complex systems easily is easily the hallmark of a good magazine. I was glad to see the Genesis brand fair so well in most categories as I do believe the make very good cars. Of course not all will agree some people have had real horror stories. There isn't a brand in existence that can't say the same but very few brands can take the gamble of the longest warranty in the business along with KIA which has always for been one of the deciding factors.

I like that one a lot. I wonder if the US (and or CA) will get some of the cool features that I haven't seen anyone discuss yet. I love the talk to the back seat feature and would use that a lot. I can't wait to see the reviewers getting to drive the 2.5 and 3.5 engines. Have they released the driving specs yet (like acceleration, stopping distances etc..)? Thanks for the share.

I can't see why the NA version would not come standard with the "talk to the back seat feature". It is standard on the Palisade Ultimate in CA (Limited in USA).

Very cool. I've never seen that in a car. It's a great idea.

The 2.5 and 3.5 gasoline versions were just recently released in Korea, so ideally we should be getting those reviews soon. I say "ideally" because the whole country has been hit hard by the coronavirus and I don't expect many to be picking up cars and freely reviewing them in streets right now.

I'm sure you're right on that. I also wonder how things will work with auto dealers even getting the GV80's by late summer. I have a feeling we won't be leaving our houses that much for a couple of months. Just a crazy situation. I'm in the highest risk group and was told by my doc not to leave the house unless I have to. Thank goodness it's only a car. lol
