  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Weird situation today. Was driving home on some hilly country roads and the car started sputtering and failed to accelerate -- like all of a sudden it lost its V8 mojo. It still ran with some hesitation and minor bucking for about a half-mile and I was able to safely pull into a parking lot. I shut it down for a minute and attempted a restart. No dice. The engine revs but doesn't start. Called AAA and had it towed to the nearest dealership where it will sit until Monday morning. 9600 miles. I'm guessing fuel pump but I really have no clue. Very disappointing.

How come AAA and not Hyundai road side assist? Did you get your loaner car? I had this happen to me with a Buick years ago, turned out ot be a lot of trash in the gas tank and the car was only 18 months old. I had to have new fuel filter and gas tank drained and cleaned.

I called Hyundai first, and when I asked if I was covered the guy said "only if you purchased a plan". I thought it was free but at that point I said I'll just call AAA because I'm a member and know that it's free up to a hundred miles. No point in wondering...

Regarding a loaner, the dealership was closed. I won't be able to talk to anyone until Monday morning. Bad timing.

It is free, you just call the number on the window. Here is link to Hyundai's roadside assist info http://www.hyundaiusa.com/assurance/roadside-assistance.aspx

Regarding gas, I did fill up earlier in the day, but had driven a good 50 miles before the stoppage. My local Wa Wa for those of you familar with the greater Philly area.

I picked my daughter and a friend up from the American Helicopter Museum in West Chester. As I pulled into a spot, I noticed an unusual noise before shutting off. I figured it was not coming from the car (perhaps a prop plane off in the distance) but when I turned it off the noise went away. It was the type of noise that most people wouldn't notice, and drives my wife crazy that I do -- a subtle consistent white noise, barely audible. Anyway, 15 miles or so later, driving past horse farms, I lost my horses. The car did not present any error lights whatsoever, it just started losing power in an obvious way.

I did get really lucky in that the tow truck driver was heading my direction after dropping off the car at the dealership and he drove me home. A very decent thing for him to do.

If you had no warning light or Check Engine light that certainly points towards a fuel problem. Could be a bad batch of gas (Might be worth calling the gas station to see if they had any complaints - and alert them to your possible problem), or a fuel blockage or faulty pump.

I'd also be calling somebody at Hyundai about the response you received regarding roadside assistance. I realize that the AAA tow was covered but Hyundai should have provided a car 24/7 regardless of whether the dealership was closed or not.

I had basically the exact same thing happen to me a couple or three months ago in my 4.6. It turned out to be the fuel pump. I just called the number for Hyundai assistance and they had a tow truck out there within 30 minutes. No cost. Your dealer gave you bad information.

Free tow to nearest dealer ship YES
Free Loaner Car? depends on the dealer.

I called the number on the driver's window. When I finally got a person on the line I asked about coverage and he said, only if you purchased a plan. Maybe he assumed my car was out of warranty given the nature of the problem? I'm not stressed about it thanks to AAA.

No issues with the dealer. Haven't even spoken to them yet as the drop-off was after hours.

Tarche,
What year is your Genesis?

Dond13,
What year is your Genesis, and how many miles did you have when your fuel pump went bad?

2010 with ~9600 miles, purchased at the end of July.

Service dept. called. They are going to replace the fuel pump tomorrow and hope to be finished by the afternoon. I asked if that was definitely the problem and the guy said, "well, we can't get any pressure". I did not request a loaner because I can work from home and have the family minivan available in a pinch. If it goes beyond tomorrow we'll have another conversation.

Fuel pumps do go bad but it is rare. My 4.6 has almost 19000 miles on it and has been perfect except for the steering wheel tilt thing and that is fine now.
Make sure they check the fuek tank, lines and filter. If you got a lot of bad gas with trash in it then the trash will stop everything up again.

Write this number down... 1-800-243-7766 (Roadside assistance). I don't have AAA but a lot of my customers at the dealership do. AAA finds good tow companies to partner with and I would personally use AAA if I had it. Nicer trucks, nicer drivers, better towing. All Hyundai vehicles come with 5 years unlimited miles of free towing. The nicer you are and not DEMAND a loaner / rental vehicle, the more likely you are to get one. As posted above, let us know what they find. I am curious.

Nice to see a Hyundai dealer rep on this site. Now if you could only tell us when the 5.0 R Spec is expected to arrive....

As soon as my sales manager tells the guys in service ill post it on here.

Thanks Mozz but I was just fishing. Will likely be no way of knowing until you see them on the lot. In the meantime, I and others will be patiently waiting.
