If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello there, I am DK, a car Youtuber in Korea.
I made a vid on GV80, and much of the traffic came from this forum, so that's how I found you :D

Some of you may have watched the below already,
and this could be a bit outdated by now,

Honestly, I have not gotten this much attention before, so made another video on GV80
focusing on some things that other Youtubers, media have missed out on.
Also, I've answered some questions people left in the comment,
which is why I am here.

If you have some unanswered questions that you simply cannot find answers online,
ie. Is there a subwoofer underneath the passenger's seat?
Let me know, I'll find it out for you!

So here is my latest vid on GV80,

As much as I am here to promote my video,
I came to be a help to prospective owners here, since I can get my hands on the GV80 at practically any Hyundai dealership here in Korea.
So I hope this'd be a win-win,
and I will be capturing all newly released Genesis, Hyundai & Kia, so stay tuned! :D

Are there massaging seats? Not referring to the driver’s 7-cell comfort air things.

Sounded like he said no to that.

Simply answering, No, and it's only offered in a driver's seat.
Also, there's a lot to improve for it to be called a "massage seat", and ironically Genesis never called it a massage seat :P

I had some Q's and answers here in the below thread, please have a look!

Thanks so much for sharing. I have watched your video on my large OLED TV and it looks GREAT, lol. Really appreciate you getting us some info.

Nice, I've noticed some ppl are watching my vids on TV's, so a bit more effort but am making my vids in 4K lately.
Glad I did it and it works great :D
I'm taking vids w/ galaxy s10 now,
and I'd be getting latest galaxy s20 as soon as it drops,
so vid quality will also go up dramatically(I hope).
Thank YOU, for watching and leaving me great feedback! Love the welcome and warmth here :D

Hey @CarSceneKorea thanks for your great hi-resolution video clips of the GV80. Question for you...trying to understand what you were talking about with regard to the transmissions selector and Park vs Neutral modes. I see an "N" as in neutral marked on the drive controller - can't you just put the drive selector there if you need to push the car by hand? Speaking of which given the weight of the GV80 could one person even push that car in the parking situation you are talking about? You mentioned this issue with the transmission keeps Koreans from buying German cars in some cases....I would be most interested if you could explain this again. Will the car not *stay* in neutral once its turned off the and the key removed - is that the issue?

Thanks!

WWE Superstar Braun Stroman, would easily push this SUV, lol. Sorry, couldn't resist.

I have the dial on my Jag. I thought that putting it in N would allow it to be pushed. I have a separate Parking break, but maybe it is like the Germans. Parking doesn't go on until you put it in Park. Hmmmmm. So many great questions.

I haven't tested out this specific hypothesis, but one thing I know for certain is that most(or at least all Germans automatics I have driven, except for performance cars like M's) will automatically put the car into P when you let your foot off the brake and open the door. Opening a door is probably the key. And this, of course, is for safety measures and I totally understand why that's there. The reason Genesis put a separate button for such feature is to be as "safe" as other German cars do (so I believe if you just open up a door, GV80 will also go into P automatically -- or I really don't see why they'd make a different button for such feature, but didn't test this out).
Also, another big thing is that this feature enables car to stay in neutral after the engine is turned off.

And this feature is there due to the parking situation here in Korea. This is not the case for all Korea, but in most compacted cities of Seoul, there are far more vehicles than what's allocated in residential areas, so it often is a must for a car to be able to roll, so that if parallel parked in front of other cars, the other driver can push the car back&forth, be on her way.

See the attached. A photo is worth more than million words :D

Trust me. When you need to be in your car, and there's a car parked in front of you in a neutral, you'd be able to move it no problem. LOL

@CarSceneKorea can you comment on the interior? I heard from someone who was at the Chicago car show and was able to sit in the GV80. He said for the price it is a great interior but did so right after sitting in a Q7 and Q8 and there was a night and day difference in the fit/finish as well as the quality of the materials. Since you are familiar with various luxury vehicles/brands, have you noticed that the GV80 may be a notch below the top or is his "German" eyes just being biased?

This is rather tough question to answer. I try to stay away from answers that could be subjective, because, well it is subjective after all.
Many of GV80's designers -- be it interior and/or exterior -- they've emphasized the "Beauty of White Space". I've heard this being mentioned many times, and it sure is implemented on the interior.
It's not that Hyundai/Genesis don't know how to luxury out a car's exterior or interior. They've been making luxury sedans for decades now.
Genesis is relatively young in the States, but in Korea, its mother-country, there's a saying among Korean gearheads that "Hyundai is a car to go to if you are looking for options." Here, options are referring to technologies, devices, infotainment, etc., stuff you'd find inside the car.

Long story short, I wouldn't necessarily say GV80's interior is better/superior than a certain car, but I'd rather say that they Genesis is formulating their own type of luxuriousness over time, and latest Genesis' are doing a great job.
Think of Lexus LS or any other flagship sedans aside from Germans, and compare that to BMW, Audi and Benz.
They all share different types of luxuriousness, I personally think.

Throughout GV80, I was very impressed by the paying attention to finest details. I don't think GV cheap'd out on any visible materials on the surface or finishes for that matter.

^ Thanks for the reply. I figured it may be tough to answer but I infer from your response that he may have been a bit biased.

I always get a chuckle whenever anyone mentions "quality of materials" in a luxury car because I seriously doubt any normal person would be able to tell the physical difference in quality between napa leathers from one car to another, other than subjective qualities like softness that have nothing to do with the expense of the material itself. It's how the Germans are able to get away with so many of their lower trim vehicles having fake leather, and no one batting an eye.

Personally, I prefer some of the "PLASTIC" interiors since they are easier to maintain and are more durable than leather. Also less expensive! I believe leather is a fad that will be overtaken by practicality.

We are talking about luxury SUV's in these this thread. The Genesis is trying to break into a difficult market. The reason folks look at luxury cars is because of the luxury. We aren't looking for plastic or vinyl. We are paying for engine and drive train (well many of us are) and luxury. Leather isn't a fad at all. I work with leather as a hobby at times and can tell the difference most of the time in the quality of leather. Most car companies do a wonderful job with the leather they use. I do agree that most folks can't always tell the difference between Connelly, Napa etc... I do feel that most can tell lower grades used in less expensive cars.

Depends on what you mean by luxury. Technology can be luxury. Dealer treatment can be luxury. And of course, who can forget the badge itself as being a symbol of luxury. Heck, Tesla is considered "luxury" and their interiors don't even have real leather. What "luxury" really means is a premium you pay for something extra that you think is worth it.

Please educate us plebians on what makes "lower grade" Genesis Napa leather inferior to that of the Germans then. Be sure to give us actual facts and not some sort of made up emotional appeal based on your subjective preferences.

Fact is, luxury makers have to advertise their woods all coming from the same tree or their leathers coming from open-roaming cows with no mosquito bites because most people aren't going to be able to tell any comparable difference in look or feel without some contrived marketing BS. But that marketing sure makes them feel better, and I guess those "feels" are what people pay for.

I don’t think he or she ever said Genesis leather was lower grade. You need to make a cup and tea and relax.

It's pretty much the entire context of the conversation, since Genesis is a "less expensive car" than its European rivals mentioned in prior posts, and therefore its quality is called into question. If some expert would like to elaborate on what makes the Genesis leather, and other materials and fit and finish a lower grade, please do.

Totally get what you are getting at now. Have to be honest....if folks left their GV80s in neutral in many places in the US they wouldn't be there when they returned :)

Thinking about this further what a HUGE difference in cultures - I can't imagine the shenanigans that would go on here in the US if a number of folks were leaving their cars in neutral so someone else could slide them up or back to get their car out.
