  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have had my 2010 Genesis 4.6 for a little over 2.5 years, and during the entire time, I've had issues with a noise that was first thought to be a tire problem. I replaced the OEM tires with Serenity tires which did not fix the problem. Even though these tires had been road force balanced and aligned, the tires didn't wear evenly. The Hyundai service manager replaced the Serenities with a set of Nitto Motivos. These are some very good tires for the price. That said, the noise was still present. Fast forward-the rear differential, propeller shaft, and front hubs and bearings were replaced, but the noise remained. Hyundai even switched the wheels and tires from another Genesis with the same results. The noise sounds like a kind of harmonic resonance. I bought this vehicle new and to my knowledge, it has never been in an accident. The service manager has suggested that the resonance may be coming from the transmission. I can't help but wonder if my Genesis might be headed for the lemon heap. Any comments? Oh, and I'm waiting for Hyundai to send in an engineer sometime next week.

My own experiences with three Genesis is that the driveline is very well balanced and free from vibrations, to wit: had my RSpec on a dyno recently where it was spun to 150 mph +; and the dyno operator remarked that he'd never seen such a smooth drivetrain.
Seems to me that Hyundai has been willing to spend $$ to cure your problem. Advise you keep pressure on Hyundai. Eventually, the problem will be isolated. It may be transmission-related after all.

Kayroe... could you please try to describe the noise, ie; was it a steady sound, or possibly a pulsating sound?

It was a pulsating sound that was really noticeable at between 45 and 48 mph. Hyundai repurchased the vehicle back from me for the full purchase price. I now own a 2013 Equus. Hyundai said that they will reverse engineer the car until they find the problem. I sold it back with 42,000 miles on it. If you have a problem with your car, then keep taking it back to the same dealer that you bought the car from because this creates a history that may sway in your favor.

I would have checked the rear diff. then the transmission/torque converter.

Everything concerning the drivetrain was pretty much replaced minus the engine and transmission. Hyundai engineers couldn't identify the source of the noise. They now have plenty of time to find the problem because I no longer own the car. Hyundai owns it.
