  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Since adapters don't work in conjunction with the older style iPhone cable, has anyone figured out a way to get an iPhone 5 to sync with our media centers? The adapters only charge, they don't support video or audio output.

The Apple adapter works just fine with the Hyundai cable. Charge, iPod, 3rd party apps (Pandora, Songza) all work as the old iPhones with the 30 pin connector.

I've tried Apple adapters and off-brand ones. None work on the car. People at the local dealership have had the same issue with their Hyundais and not being able to do anything but charger their iPhones.

My 2012 with DIS works with the Apple adapter as well.

Is yours in a case? Try removing it first. PITA, but it's what I have to do to make it fit.

My iPhone 5 works perfectly with both the Apple plug adapter and the .2m cable adapter in my 2012 with DIS. (I use the .2m cable adapter now, because the extra length is nice, and it works better with my case.) There are multiple data points posted here that the adapters work with the iPhone 5 and the factory Hyundai iPhone cable-- it works with multiple years and multiple audio systems in our Genesis cars. http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=10230&page=4

Yours may be an isolated issue. It could be your factory Hyundai cable, the audio module, or maybe even your phone.

What exactly is yours doing?

I actually have a 2013 Elantra, but I think the problem is the same...

It took me a while. I tried the Hyundai cable with the apple adapter, and the music played, but there was no screen display, and the steering wheel track controls didn't work. When I just plugged in the iphone cable it froze up, searching for media.

By accident, really, I tried another iphone 8 pin cable, and it works! It took me a second to realize why... It's not a real iphone cable, but a cheap knockoff I bought on a discount site. I'm guessing this means it's not fully digital, doesn't transfer data as fast as the real cable, and most important, doesn't interfere with the system sending info back to the iphone. I could be wrong on this, but all I know is, it works! I get a display with the artist name, album and song title, and I can skip tracks with the steering wheel controls. It also sounds great.

I found the cable I used on 1saleaday.com, but a quick google search yielded this.

If it's already expired, just google search for "8 pin 3 pack"

Hope this helps someone!

Yes, knock off adapters only support audio/data transfer and not video.

My issue is that I've tried a real Apple adapter and I don't get anything. The media center doesn't even see the phone, much less play music. All it does is charge it.

Have you tried a different Hyundai iPhone cable? Maybe you have a funky Hyundai 30-pin cable that somehow does not work with your adapter & iPhone 5.

I've got a new 2013 RSpec, and I'm having the same issue. I had a knockoff adapter that only charged, so I got the real deal from Apple and same thing.

I use the 30 pin to lightning "corded" adapter (not the stubby plug one because it won't fit in my otter box case) and my iPhone 5S works perfect with my 2009 tech.

Are you using the factory Hyundai 30-pin cable with an Apple 30-pin to Lightning adapter. Or, are you trying to use just a straight Lightning to USB cable?
