    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Has anyone thought about or actually installed a remote start?

Audioworks in Milford Ct---I have used them for my past three vehicles---Genny is going in next Tuesday

well i got my evo-all today & was going to wait til the weekend to install it but i have a goldwing trike to work on this weekend so i started it today & its a simple set up for anyone with knowledge of electrical components & i completed half of the wiring of the crimestopper RS-1 remote start, couldnt finish it because i had to get ready for work (which is where i am now), and then once i test it to make sure all is good , i will have my Viper smart start installed so i can start my car with my Droid X, i was going to do that install but found out i wouldnt be able to activate it as Viper only lets their dealers install it & activate the smart start, so of course that pisses me off as i have done my own installs on every car i ever owned for years & on my motorcycles but oh well what is a man supposed to do, at least the install is included in the price of the viper smart start that i bought from best buy, i will post once again once completed

ok so i found out the Viper vss-3000 has a built remote starter in it so i didnt install the crimestopper RS-1 like i was going to , so i have the Fortin EVO-ALL & the Viper smart start vss-3000 in my 4.6 Genesis & let me be the first to tell you when i started my baby up from my cell phone (Droid X on verizon) i almost pissed on myself i was beyond happy , man am i telling you this technology is something else these days, Now if i can just get someone to drive me everywhere i need to go like back & forth to work so i can sit in the back and enjoy the car :-) , like my wife maybe ( ok im just day dreaming ), anyway i can lock & unlock my doors, hit the panic horn & start the car all from my cell phone, now thats nice !

Had the Fortin Evo All remote starter installed today---took about five hours (some kind of software problem was not enabling the driver door to lock). It works great---cost $495---Audioworks in Milford CT--203-867-1133---I will update after a week to inform how its working---weather is still nice here so I'm ready when the chill hits

Ruggegg,

Let me know if there are any annoying quirks with the system. Also, is there anything else that was installed besides the EVO-ALL?

@QCTLG
@ruggeg

I am very curious about this as well. You didn't need a alarm/remote start kit with the EVO (Viper, Excalibur, etc...)?

Are you only using your original key fob or do you have an aftermarket key now?

@MADDMOE
I assume your phone app was part of the Viper system? Is there a recurring fee?

I appreciate any input!

In addition to the Evo All In One they installed a Pro 1 way 1 button 25 channel ss remote kit. Works great---to start tap the button twice quickly and the hold it down for two seconds (also stops the car after being remote started) when you approach the car you tap the button twice and the doors unlock--you must step on the brake pedal within thirty seconds or the car will turn off and enter normal starting mode using the smart key. This remote has a 5000 feet distance---car is set to run for 15 minutes. No problems at all. Unit has a lifetime warranty to the original owner. Post any other questions and I will reply

@mjsmith3
@xabanero---they installed a Compustar RF1BAM 900 SH Package---I assume this is what replaces the need for a key. The smart key functions as normal EXCEPT it will not unlock the car when remote started---you must use the remote start remote to unlock the car and then the smart key takes over

Yes I installed one on my demo about 3 months ago. It was installed by one of my Platinum certified techs. It was a nightmare! Did not work properly and kept setting several codes. Great idea I just haven't found a kit that I would approve at this point.

I had one customer come in that had a aftermarket remote start installed and they butchered his wiring harness. He has already been in for issues related to the remote start causing the car not to start at all. Towed in twice etc etc. I could have easily charged him for these repairs since they were not warranty. Since we all love the Genesis I choose instead to simply remove the remote start for him at no cost. He paid for the tow bills and has had no issues now for two months.

My opinion but I would avoid the remote start until we start seeing a lot of success on the forums from a particular kit.

Thanks

@ruggeg

Thanks for the info. I was hoping for a single key. The oem key is a big clunkin' key by itself...to have to carry two big clunkin' keys all the time seems a bit much.

I'm curious about the iPhone app deal...I carry my phone pretty much everywhere already (yet another big clunk). I just don't like the fact of a recurring charge ($50/yr from what I can tell) for some magical reason I can't fathom other than charging you bookoo up front and then milking you for the rest of your car's life.:mad:

Yes, thx ruggeg. Sounds like it works well, other than the fact that you can't open the doors in the normal manner (SmartKey) while the remote start is operational. The remote start via phone also sounds interesting, but like the other poster pointed out, i'm not interested in having to pay a recurring fee

Well i have had my Fortin EVO-ALL & Viper Smart Start VSS-3000 in my car for over a week now & have had no problems what so ever. The Fortin evo-all is the bypass ( i didnt have to lose one of my key fobs ) & the Viper smart start vss-3000 kit is the remote start & the reciever for the cell phone app in my case for my Droid X ( verizon ) . Yes there is a service fee for the smart start for a year but i paid for the 3 year plan which was $99 . Now i have been using it everyday when i get off from work , i have it set on the factory setting to run for 12 minutes but i will change it to run for 24 minutes this weekend coming up. The only thing i suggest is that any one who is interested in any remote start , know who you are going to . I do all my own installs so i know i wouldnt have to worry about my car getting jacked up. This is a beautiful system & so far i am 100% satisfied. Now as far as how it works basically i start the car from my droid x, then when i arrive at my car i open the doors with my droid x, then i sit in the car step on the brake pedal put the car in drive & off i go, once you remote start the car you can not press the button on the door handle to open the doors.

Also if you have a Droid, I-phone or certain blackberries you can downlaod the app ( Viper Smart Start ) through your app store on your cell phone and check it out on your cell phone

Madmoe,

Have to admit, the idea of using the phone (and not carrying an extra key) is appealing. $99 for 3 years isnt so bad. I assume you also have a remote start key fob in case you decide you don't want to use your phone?

No i dont have a extra remote start key fob that comes with the viper vss-3000 but you can order a set for $100 for 2 i believe, but i wont be ordering any my cell is always with me, the Fortin evo-all i got off of ebay for about $65 and the viper smart start vss-3000 i got from best buy for $300 that price from ebay includes a basic install but i wasnt letting them even get close to my car. There are other places you can go to for the install but you have to factor in the labor charge for the job, as i stated before i did my own job & then took my car to my friends shop who has an account with viper so that i could activate the account. Now there are times that you will get a error message on your cell phone and the car wont recieve the signal but i believe that an issuse with the cell phone , lately its been working great

If anyone is interested in the Fortin EVO-ALL just make sure you have one with the latest firm ware version 2.2 loaded on it

@mjsmith3
Audioworks service is great---they have just moved to a larger building so they are probably not totally up and running yet---they do all soldered connections--I also work for an Acura dealer and they do all of our radio/navi repairs. They performed a software update during the install. When you do contact them mention a few times that you saw their name on the Genesis Owners Forum--I informed them that I would be posting and that they may receive some business from the site. Keep me informed on how you make out
