  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

... hyundaiing up, but to the point - I got it last night, 2009 V8 3k miles Tech Pkg. Tested the crap out of it, loved the sound ... even caught myself watching/listening to a DVD concert in the driveway late at night - All great.

than Its time to fire it up in the morning and go to work, here is what I find:

- TPMS Low pressure (no biggie - will check the pressure later)
- the big bummer is - no sound, ABSOLUTELY no sound, the DVD doesn't even play in park mode ... everything else seem to work fine ... but the freaking sound

RollsRoyce system my butt :)

so, anybody had similar issue? seems to me like the amp/processor is out ... is there anyway to reboot the whole system if it's the processor ?

little discouraging the very least :{

There was a TSB on the amp for the 2009 models. Take it to your dealer, it should be covered under warranty. The TPMS could be due to the temp dropping this time of year (depending where you live).

yeah ... I figured the TPMS might be due to weather ... but it's 60F here in Texas - so no that big of a fluctuation

As you have probably already found out, the system will usually reset after it's been powered down for 5 minutes or so.

The 2009 seems to be particularly susceptable to this problem. In fact, it is the most reported issue on the forum. I struggled with the same problem for 9 months, thru 5 different amps and 2 different head units before finally getting into a new 2011 courtesy of Hyundai Motor Company.

Your TPMS may also be an issue. My boss had an '09 3.8. His was also dought back by Hyundai after repeated failures in the TPMS.

My suggestion: take it straight to a dealer the next time it happens and get it documented. You have about 33K miles left (unless it was brand new) until your warranty runs out.

yeah ... bought it used ... so 33k is good. Will try to repro it tomorrow and pay the dealer a Visit ... way to start a new relationship :)

also ... I got a 100k/8year extended warranty through Infinity (where I bought the car) but I figured it would take forever for them to order the parts. Also ... not sure if I will keep it - got 60days to cancel, it all depends how Hyundai handles this issue.

alright ... just verified ... after trying again after 2h it's back to normal. Freaking wonderful, so I bought a car with a million dollar sound system that I will not be sure everytime I get into the car whether it works or not ... I bet they did that so you get to enjoy the V8 sound :)

also, one question, you said: "...finally getting into a new 2011 courtesy of Hyundai Motor Company." can you elaborate on that ?

Thanks

I can elaborate a little, but I am not allowed to share some of the details - I actually had to sign a non-disclosure for part of the settlement.

My 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 w/tech package began having issues with the DIS about 3 months after I bought it. It was in and out of the dealer for the same problems almost a dozen times over a 9 month period. All of the issues except one (the tilt/telescope) were related to the amp/head unit. I drove around for 75% of the total time I owned the vehicle without sound/bluetooth/nav, etc. I actually had almost 4000 miles on loaner/rental vehicles over that period.

Hyundai Motor America completely refused to help in any way. They flatly refused to offer to buy the car back, or to offer any form of compensation. In fact, they refused to even answer my phone calls until I got a lawyer. Eventually, after recognizing that HMA could simply wait me out, I accepted a cash settlement that would not have even paid for a single out-of-warranty repair to the DIS.

After I settled with HMA, I sent off an email to a company officer. Almost immediately, I was contacted by senior HMA officials, and they went to great lengths to make things right. Now that it's all over, I suspect that my original Consumer Affairs case manager was simply grossly incompetent.

I am now in a brand new 2011 Genesis. The out-of-pocket costs to me were negligible. I am now completely satisfied that HMA lived up to their responsibilities, and that had I got a more competent case manager to start with, I probably would never have experienced the frustrations.

The radio problem happened to many owners on the 2009's, including me.
As said elsewhere, after the car is shut down for 5 minutes or so, the sound comes back on. Will not come back if you just shut down and restart right away.

It should still be in factory warranty. When it is working fine, still document it by visiting your closest Hyundai dealer, informing them of the problem. Get a copy from the Service Writer.

If you live within a reasonable distance to a Hyundai Dealer, the next time it happens, drive directly to the dealer. DO NOT SHUT OFF THE IGNITION, but have the Service Writer make out a Repair Order (RO). Again, DO NOT SHUT OFF THE IGNITION. Have the Service Writer AND the Technician verify that the Audio will not play. Only after they see that there is something wrong and verified on the RO shut the engine off.

In my case, I have a great Dealer Service Department. They ordered a new Amplifier, installed it, and no longer have the problem.

Good Luck.

This has only happened once to me and I restarted the car. Fortunately it has not repeated itself.

WOW... I did almost the same "testing" here in Texas as well.... up to the point of listening / watching a DVD very late at night on my driveway too...

But this was a 2010 3.8 and the car worked perfectly the morning after.

I'm waiting for the 2012 though...
