If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Just wanting an update, please.
I bought a 2010 V8 loaded, that gorgeous red color. I loved everything about it,except he ride. It was "jittery" and after 10 months I sadly got rid of it.
Question, has the ride improved in the 2012 models ?

I own a 2009 pre-suspention change.
I just test drove a 2012 Rspec.

YES - there's a BIG difference in ride with the new models.

I have a 2010, 4.6 liter. The only "major" problem I have had with it is the steering column adjustment went haywire and crushed the dash. The engineers did not know why it was doing it so, they opted to replace the entire steering column. This took two weeks to complete. I have had more problems with the dealership, I purchased it from, then the vehicle.

piliepr:

The key fobs are supposed to send a signal to the car to say "low battery" which is then displayed in the instrument panel center LCD. If the FOB battery contacts are loose/dirty though you'd go from okay/normal battery to NO battery which bypasses the "low battery" stage. One of my remotes, as of last week, has started such symptoms. Sometimes a button push does nothing... if I shake/jar the FOB it works normally - from a normal distance too. Perhaps the battery contacts are just getting dirty similar to what happens with cheap TV & garage door opener remotes? When the buttons seems to not be working, the remote is not "detected" inside the vehicle either and I have to either smack it (high-tech fix) or slip it into the dash key FOB port to get the car to start.

There are supposed to be several antennas on the outside of the car including the door handles... so with a charged FOB battery the range should be pretty high. I can go 5 car lengths on mine easily. If one of the car's antenna connections is bad - or if the internal connecting cable is shorted out - that'll make it so you have to be right next to the car. Tell the dealer; if they say "it's normal" then ask for a FOB for any new car on the lot and see how far away it works compared to yours.

I am well versed on the adaptive cruise but I do believe the issue lies within the engine management software. As of today, I have been to the dealership 6 times since late March. My vehicle has been out of service for 81 days... Unacceptable.
I just sent my Demand Letter to Hyundai Motors U.S.A. on 6/22/12 as advised by my attorney. As a consumer, I/we are protected on both Federal and State levels by statutes put in place to address "Lemons." I will keep everyone posted.
Hyundai Motors U.S.A. has 10 days to respond to my demands (full refund of monies applied to payments, trade in capital and down payment attributable to me minus the 2750 miles attributable to me). Hyundai will be afforded one more chance to repair my vehicle. After I deliver my car to a dealership, Hyundai will have 10 days to conform the vehicle to warranty or be subject to the refund or enter into arbitration.
If anyone would like to read the Demand Letter, please email me and I will send it to you or I will post it if apropos.
I don't want anyone to experience the misery and terror my family and I have been enduring for nearly 3 months, so I am sharing my experience.
The next step is contingent on Hyundai and how they treat me in regard to this egregious issue. It is worth noting that I have purchased 4 Hyundai products in the last 36 months and I have been thoroughly satisfied with the cars; excellent products. This Genesis, however, has been an absolute let down and has put me and others in my vicinity on the street at risk of life and limb too many times to count...
Thank you, folks.

Yep. The ride is much better than my earlier 09 Genesis. I still think there's more room for improvement.

My 2009 3.8 was purchased off lease one year old with 19,000 miles. Aside from what is apparently a dealer-added bluetooth phone that operates independently of the radio, so I have to manually mute it when a call comes in, I have few complaints.

One is a very small occasional vibration from the passenger headrest when the seat is empty. Can't hear it when the radio is on, even if volume low.

The other is a jolt from the transmission if I don't come to an absolutely complete stop before accelerating again, as if I caught it between 2nd and 1st and it jerks when it engages 1st.

I also think the seat bolsters could be a little stiffer, so that on fast right hand corners I would not feel like I'm sliding out of the seat (despite my ample butt).

Well, what's happened....anything?

USB memory stick not recognized

I've got a 2009 V6 with tech pkg. After working fine for 3+ years, my stereo has stopped recognizing a USB memory stick that contains my music. I've tried a new memory stick and it doesn't work either. I've tried plugging the sticks in after turning the radio on as well as leaving it inserted when the radio was off.

The radio otherwise works fine with cd's, xm radio, am and fm.

Anyone know how to solve this problem?

My 2009 Manual has a lot to say about USB. Don't know if any of this helps you or not, but here goes:

• To use an external USB device,
• Depending on the condition of the external USB device, the connected external USB device can be unrecognizable.
• If you dismount the external USB device during playback in USB mode, the external USB device can be damaged or malfunction. Therefore, mount the external USB device when the engine is turned off or in another mode.
make sure the device is not mounted when starting up the vehicle and mount the device after starting up.
• When the formatted byte/sector setting of External USB devices is not either 512BYTE or 2048BYTE, then the device will not be recog- nized.
• If you start the vehicle when the USB device is mounted, it may damage the USB device. (USB is not ESA)
• Use only a USB device formatted to FAT 12/16/32.
• Depending on the type and capacity of the external USB device or the type of the files stored in the device, there is a difference in the time taken for recognition of the device, but this is not an indicator of trouble and you only have to wait.
• If the vehicle is started up or turned off while the external USB device is connected, the external USB device may not work.
• USB devices without USB IF authentication may not be recognizable.
• It may not play inauthentic MP3or WMA files.
1) It can only play MP3 files with compression rate between 8Kbps~320Kbps.
• Make sure the USB connection terminal does not come in contact with a human body or any object.
• Do not use the USB device forother purposes than playing music files.
• If you repeat mounting or dismounting USB device in a short period of time, it may break the device.
• Use of USB accessories such as a recharger or heater using USB I/F may lower performance or cause trouble.
2) It can only play WMA music files with the compression rate between 8Kbps~320Kbps
• You might hear a strange noise when mounting or dismounting a USB device.
• If you use devices such as a USB hub you purchased separately, the vehicle’s audio system may not recognize the USB device. Connect the USB device directly to the multimedia terminal of the vehicle.

Radio doesn't recognize USB port

I brought my car to the dealer. He says that it is a bad usb unit. I'm not sure just what that is, but he's ordered a replacement and plans to install it on Friday.

While the staff is friendly and cooperative, the service department is inadequate, especially when it comes to stocking replacement parts. It's really annoying to have to visit the dealer multiple times for every problem. This is the downside of having a "near luxury" car like the Genesis sold in a standard Hyundai dealership.

I use a micro cruzer usb drive so it will not get hit and then damage the usb plug. Its smaller than the nail on your little finger. Also have over 63000 miles on my 2011 4.6 and no problems other than tsb on driveshaft center bearing.

I also have 2011 4.6. I have never heard of the tsb for the driveshaft center bearing. Do you have any more info on this?

It is what causes the rumble between 10 & 20 mph during hard acceleration. It is felt in the center ARM rest and can be heard also. The complete driveshaft must be replaced. This is a common problem on high horse power cars like Mercedes, Cadillac, BMW etc.

I haven't had problems until recently, when my backup camera started to malfunction intermittently - the display is black, with just the lines showing. I suspect that there's a loose connection somewhere, so will ask the dealer when I'm there next time.

2011 3.8. Just turning 30k miles. Had to have the steering column computer replaced at 15k miles as it developed a mind of its own. Had the driver side seat tracks/motor replaced at the same time as the seat made a heck of a racket when moving forward/backward. Rotors are staring to warp. Has a few rattles that I've never been able to find. Nothing other than those things so far.

It's been a great trip car as it's really quiet and gets about 28mpg on the highway. Plan to look at redesigned Genesis in 2014.

Recently had a new Cadillac CTS rental for a long trip (1,000+ miles) and what a POS that was. Surprised they can sell any them. Was really glad to get back into my Genny.

The dealer replaced the USB unit and declared victory. I drove the car for about three miles with the USB unit working properly when it suddenly quit. Now, it's not recognizing the USB port again. The tech is stumped. He called hyundai's tech support line and could not reach anyone. I'm waiting to hear from him to see what the next step will be.

After only a few hundred miles, the leather on the drivers seat started to ripple. I asked the dealer if this is a problem others have had, and he promptly told me it was not. But interestingly, they told me they had a leather upholster they used for problems such as this. NO, I didn't challenge him. By the way, the seat is now nice and tight.
