  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know if Genesis intends to retrofit the HDA2 chip for MY 23 models? GM and Ford did that for their models, did anyone check with Genesis or can check?

What is a HDA2 chip?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
It’s the chip that adds more highway driving assist fratures like lane change etc. this was removed due to the chip shortage during the pandemic

New version of the HDA chip with added features for Highway Driving Assist.
During the pandemic there was a shortage of the chips so many car makers did not offer it.

Is the only difference with HDA2 is that the car will change lanes by itself with the click of the turn signal by the driver? If so, definitely can live without it. I have only used lane keep once, only to try how well it worked compared to lane keep in my former 2017 F150.

It does that plus collision avoidance mitigation if someone were to come into your lane such as cutting you off or side swiping you. I can do without that too.

What I found:

HDA:
. Watches *your* lane
. Adaptive cruise
. Lane "follow"

HDA2:
. HDA... plus
. Watches *adjacent* lanes
. Can emulate driver's style
. Lane "centering"
. Lane change
. Other drivers cutting in

Honestly, any machine which can learn to drive like I do isn't probly a good thing... lol. So adaptive cruise is really all I'm personally interested in anyway.

Hahaha I wish I could have HDA2. Can anyone share the contact for Genesis?

That's all I use as well. First had it on my 2017 F150, and is a handy feature.

I was assured that there was no way to retrofit the '23 with HDA2 when I asked before I bought it...

Retrofitting HDA2 in a 2023 gv80 It is doable on any 2023 GV vehicle. Here's a YouTube video of a guy who installed it himself on a 2023 GV80. You need around $500 worth of h/w, the two front corner radar units, an ADAS ECU, and a wiring harness. The bigger question is whether a dealer or an independent shop would be willing to do the installation. When the guy did the video, the ADAS ECU in particular was in very short supply, even in Korea. That ADAS ECU is the "chip" that they couldn't get. Apparently, supply is getting a bit better in Korea, at least. The mounting brackets for the front radar units and the ADAS ECU are already in the cars. The wiring is not trivial though, and the main car ECU has to be recoded to recognize the new h/w. The device needed to do the recoding is a very expensive ($6000) unit and would mostly be found in dealer shops or independent shops who specialize in Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia cars. I'm going to call my dealer and ask, but I doubt they'll be willing to do it, and if they are, they'd probably charge a small fortune.

There are four features in HDA2 that HDA1 doesn't have.

1. Forward cross-traffic safety
2. Driving style based smart cruise control
3. Highway lane change assist
4. Awareness and visualization of vehicles on both sides of the lanes

The auto-lane changing feature (3) is pretty much a parlor trick but having the front cross-traffic warning/emergency braking capability (1) as in the rear would be a nice safety addition.

There is not going to be a charge because I can’t imagine any authorized Genesis dealer that would expose itself to the liability from installing a non-authorized modification like this.

Please let us know what the dealer said

It’d be using all OEM parts though…the same parts that are used in any of the Genesis/Hyundai vehicles with HDA2. The two front corner radars, the ADAS ECU, and the wiring harness. They all have Genesis part numbers. It’s be as if I wanted the dealer to install the OEM Genesis trailer hitch, for example. If the dealer won’t do it, I’d imagine an independent shop might.

The problem is you (or the dealer or any installer) don’t know what you don’t know. There is no installation manual to go by. You don’t know what the consequences are if you do it wrong or what damage can be caused. I don’t think it’s just a matter of handing them a bunch of part and say, I think this is all you need, have at it.

Yes, it’s always possible that there could be gotchas in attempting this, but unless the guy in the YT video is lying, his explanation of what he did seems believable. But I, and a number of others also successfully performed a CarPlay addition to the Fiat 124 Spider that involved h/w, s/w, and wiring modifications. This was also a “non-authorized” procedure in the sense that it was not sanctioned by either Fiat or Mazda but it used components that were OEM Mazda, which were common to both the Miata and the Spider. In the end it worked quite well, and has been well documented.

Folks who have access to Genesis shop and wiring manuals could verify the wiring that the guy in the video did. And also note, I’m not here to argue about the procedure or suggest that anyone do this. I’m simply answering the question of “Is this doable?” From what I can see, the answer is yes. Whether any dealer or independent shop would do this is questionable , but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

I contacted Genesis Canada, they said the HDA2 cannot be added to the car by any of their distributor. I shared this link as well, they said if you use any other parts, then warranty is voided, which is as expected. Did ask them if they plan to go the Ford & GM route and retrofit these features, haven't heard anything from them on it. They were also reluctant to share the part details as well

What does #2 (Driving style SCC) that is different from HDA1?
