  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Headlight Condensation

I've had the same issue but they replaced mine. No questions asked.
The scatch is likely a crack. Have a good look at both lights where the internal mounting screws are located. There is a picture of the screws exposed in this post.

I hope this is my final update. The GV70 went in for annual maintenance to the same dealership that I have been using. A new service tech helped me and during the walk around pointed out the cracks in the drivers headlight (as well as the start of a visible crack in the passenger). I told him that I had tried all avenues to get them fixed and I expected no solution. He called me two hours later and said I would be getting both headlights replaced under warranty. A few days later, it was given back looking good as new. The story he shared is there is now a bulletin from one of the higher engineers in the company who admits the screws were overtightened during a certain period on the assembly line, so they get replaced. That said, they have to identify the cracks as such and not "rock chips". Good luck to everyone who is dealing with this. It seems there is a solution now.
Great information and thanks for all the details from you and everybody else. I’m the second owner of my GV70 which is a 2022. The dealer I connected with, which is very limited here in Indianapolis has been helpful at least on the door trim issue.

So now… after some needed paint correction from the first owner, I had PPF put on the front and also the headlights

And now voilà… moisture in the drivers headlamp I can’t say 100% that it wasn’t starting before, but I’m just curious if the film might’ve trapped the moisture in and already cracked headlamp due to the screw issue?

Anyone else? Or has anybody else put film after the new ones have been installed and have had great success? I’m at 41K right now so obviously it’s happens sooner than later

I had mine wrapped after being replaced with no issues.

I have the same issue and the same reply from my dealership. They say they found cracks in the lamp covers but i think it is stress fractures due to poor material/design.

I have the same issue that occurred approximately 10 days after purchase (first time it rained) and they say warranty doesn't cover it because of the cracks but there is no damage to the body part that runs between the lights and I discovered yesterday that there are now cracks in the edge of lights on the driver side so I will be watching it for condensation. Further to replace the headlight on passenger side quote is $2700. The part cost is $2100 plus tax and they have to take the whole front of the car off to replace the headlights. This is absolutely crazy to me. It has to be a manufacturer defect or weakness in the material causing these cracks.

Wrapped? Was this done by a professional? What kind of "wrap"?

3M clear wrap to protect against future chips and crazy money!

I hd the issue in the driver side headlamp. Called Crown Genesis in St Petersburg and got an appointment for a week later. Took the caar in, the examined it and could find no 'scratches'. They replaced the headlamp under warranty. Been to high pressure wash (and Tropical Storm Debby) since then and no more issues. If your dealership isn't taking care of it, try going up the food chain to regional or national Genesis.

No amount of 'wrap' is going to protect it if screws were over-tightened, which seems to be the problem (defect) on the majority of cases reported here. Carefully looking at pictures posted somewhere could tell you if your cracks are due to that or not, since they showed where the 2 screws are located. If the crack(s) look about the same location, and no impact visible, I'd fight like hell to get them replaced under warranty. I forgot to save those pictures, by the way, so hopefully somebody can re-post them here.

If you have spent the time reading the entire post you would have noticed I’ve had both lights replaced due to cracks. The 3m wrap is to prevent any chips and disputes in the future. The whole process was a PIA.

Just wanted to inform forum members just tuning in that wrap won't fix the crack problem due to crappy design AND over-tightened screws. If the headlight frame was beefier, it wouldn't crack just because it's a bit tighter than normal. It might also be a misalignment issue, which puts stress on the part when tightened, and eventually cracks. So far it seems like it's not a wide-spread issue, but time will tell, as the new headlights just came out in '22. I think parking the car outside might also expedite the problem, but not sure about that. Hopefully folks will start stating mileage, and if car is garaged, to get a pattern.

Got mine replaced. Then noticed the condensation in right headlights after a week post rains. Took pics and sent to my rep at the dealership. He was considerate enough to place the order with Genesis. Getting them replace this week. Car is at the workshop already for the whining noise while coasting and lack of power in 3rd gear.
Just noticed my 2022 G80 has same issue in both headlights

Totally agree with everything above and thanks for the details. Here’s where I’m at currently. The driver side looked like a fishbowl when I brought it in, so that was pretty easy to determine. Local Napleton ordered a replacement but would not do anything about the passenger side. at the beginning of this month condensation started to form on the passenger side, and I still hadn’t been in to replace the driver side because the part was slow to come in. I went into the dealership and they advised that they had to run it through a stress test first and even though they had a driver side and a passenger side for my GV70 they could not replace the passenger side if it passed the test. The test consists of them taking off the back of the headlamp, which apparently has a big moisture absorbency pack. Normal circumstances without the issue they’re having with the micro fractures and the bad adhesive, that pack should take care of any condensation.

My driver side was replaced with instructions that if it starts to occur again to bring it back, which is super convenient considering it took 9 hours for an oil change and a light replacement and of course the mandatory fuel pump that just flagged on my VIN.

The driver side looks good. The LEDs are actually bright white like they were originally and that’s when I noticed that the passenger side already has a yellow hue to the LED lights. Not sure if that’s typical or just because of the constant condensation.

By the way, my driver side started at 39,000 miles Mine is only a 2022 but I put a lot of miles on it in the last year. I currently have 52,000 and when I took it in three weeks ago and had 50 K

Again, the last three weeks after disassembling it and putting it back together, the passenger side has drastically gone downhill

I will take it back but this time it is starting to hold water so my guess is they will replace it

Wanted to provide you with some feedback and some timelines.

Also, the tarnished trim, that was ordered in June, they had already tried to buff it out, but it’s coming back with a vengeance

Otherwise, I love the vehicle. Obviously need to have this thing replaced before 60 K even though they said they have it documented in case it comes up in the future. That didn’t take very long., as it’s gone from Light condensation to heavy moisture within a month just like the driver side. Pictures attached show discoloration of the light, and the new driver side and old passenger side that’s starting to take on water

Hope any of this ramble helps

Headlamp condensation!! 2022 GV80. This is a KNOWN defect. According to my dealer, they are still working on redesigning the headlamps. so they have known about this issue for years. One headlamp cost $3700. Because there has been no fix yet there is no guarantee that it’s not going to happen again. My vehicle is no longer in warranty, but they are willing to cover 80% of it. Still fighting to get it covered at 100%. I am considering selling my vehicle and buying something else despite loving it. I can’t afford to replace these headlamps in the future. Within weeks of condensation my headlight went out.

Sorry to hear that. I had this problem only on the driver side of my 2023 GV70. I had already knew about this by reading forums like here. I immediately took it to the dealership as soon as I started seeing the condensation. My dealership here in Richmond V.A. are the best from the many nightmare stories ive heard from other dealerships. They knew of the problem, ordered and replaced it with no problems. Even told me if the passenger side goes bad, bring it in to be replaced. I'm still under warranty and hope I wont need another replacement. Indeed they are expensive but that comes with the territory. Such beautiful vehicles, don't trade yours in..lol.

It's cheap plastic that is used for the headlights and tiny rocks will crack them and thats how the condensation gets in!!!

I also find this dealership most helpful!
