If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey folks! Looking for some help here. I'm basically at the point where I'm losing sleep every night and constantly thinking about it. I'll try to keep the story short but if anyone needs details to help me out then please lmk.

6 months ago I was rear-ended at a red light in my 2015 Genesis Sedan Ultimate (I'm in Canada, so it's the V8 model with AWD). The back end was smashed in pretty good and it wasn't a soft tap. (I suspect the other drive wasn't paying attention or maybe on their phone.) Luckily nobody was hurt.

Car takes about 5 months to repair, mostly due to parts backorders. August I get the car back and here's where I'm having the issues. I have the car no more than 6 hours and the AWD light comes on. I basically would be off when you start the car, then turn on when you give the car a little gas, then when you turn it off it goes away and does it all over again. Take it back to auto shop that repaired it, they get it diagnosed at a Hyundai dealership and they say the AWD ECU needed to be replaced (something about it not being able to calibrate.

Insurance deems this not part of the accident so now I'm on my own. AWD ECU is all the way at front of the car, and no damage to it etc, must be some kinda unlucky coincidence. I take it to the local Genesis/Hyundai dealership and they diagnose and come up with the same recommendation: Replace the AWD ecu. So they do this...and now it still can't calibrate. over the last month or so they have been saying Hyundai Canada is helping with the problem and they have tried replacing various components to try and fix to no avail. Now I'm up all night thinking that my car will never be fixed or is unfixable and all I was doing was minding my business stopped at a red light.

Soooo...i guess i'm rambling now but hoping for some support or help:

Maybe someone has had this issue with their AWD ECU and calibration and has a solution? or ideas?

Can I do anything about insurance not covering my car? Shouldn't they have to return a car with no warning lights back to me in same condition before accident or something? Does this sound like some unlucky timing for me? Is there some service I can go to about fighting this?

Has anyone had success talking to Hyundai Canada maybe i could get them to fully investigate the situation?

***My car does have an aftermarket compustar alarm that was professionally installed and I do have a set of ARK lowering springs on it. The car was working for several years with these aftermarket items no issues but maybe something with those? also my car has super low KM on it.

Anyway thanks in advance to listening to my story and me vent. Apologies for my lack of activity on the forums. Car was working perfectly, had kids, been busy with work and family but car forums are where I grew up.

Details on the car? Mileage?

Sadly you might have to trade it in on something else or let a dealer just buy it from you...
I for one dont like selling a car that needs repair to an individual.

80k km (50kmiles) on it. 2015 Ultimate (In Canada it's basically v8 with awd and all tech) Any other info helpful?

Yeah, assuming that might be my option, bring it in with the light on and they probably access the car and take off the value of repair? I wouldn't wanna stiff some person with this for sure.

You don't give any conditions other than a warning light. (hopefully you're not losing sleep over that) Need more info.

If there is some drivability issue, my first thought would be a rear wheel speed sensor or its wiring. The sensors are tied into the ESC, which determines how power is distributed thru the transfer case (AWD). I've noticed my car will jerk if I hit the throttle a little hard when leaving a stop and turning sharply. The computer definitely notices a front wheel slipping vs. the rears and immediately cuts the power. It's only happened a couple times and I didn't catch if the 'AWD' light came on, but I bet it did.

Yeah sorry, i literally only had the car back less than a day. It's similar to a problem described on this board earlier. Basically i could drive the car at low speeds and the light would not turn on. Once you give it any type of real acceleration the AWD light pops on and stays on. No noticeable jerking or performance issues that i noticed. The car did feel like maybe it was in the sport mode or RWD leaning mode but I don't really know cause I hadn't driven the car in 5 months. Once you turn off the car the light goes away and its the same process once it restarts.

They brought the card to hyundai and they found following codes: P310C & P310E. I got the car back and then i took it to Genesis/Hyundai dealership and they found same codes. They attempted to reset/recalibrate the AWD computer and no luck so they replaced the AWD ECU and apparently it still won't calibrate. They have been vague as to what's been going on for the last month or so. They say they have been replacing parts to try and fix the problem. Swapping things from other cars apparently and latest update was some type of actuator being replaced.

Thanks for taking time to read my post

A small square of black tape is a cheap and easy fix.

I've taken a loss on a car (recently even) on a transmission engine code with a car that had 237k on it.... though the car looked and drove great I didnt want to put $3k into it to see if it would go another 100k miles

Update:
Hyundai says the transmission is done. Quoted me $10k CAD to fix it. FML

If the transmission is done that's absolutely within the realm of the original crash. I don't know how Canada does insurance but it sounds like you need an insurance lawyer.
