Help. I have a big scrape on my brand new G80

Some good, some bad suggestions for repair. If this were my brand new G80 return to new condition would be the only way to go.
Anything less and you will never be happy and a proper fix is likely within your means. Good luck.(y)
100% agree with you on this!

Get a spray can of color matched touch up paint. There are several places on the net that sell color matched touch up paint in spray cans. Your color code is on a sticker on the driver side door jam area. You can order everything you need from these touch up shops usually for under $50. The repair is down low so most folks will not notice the touch up. Mask the area off, use several light coats, do some wet sanding to feather it in, clear coat it, wet sand that and you can get pretty close to a decent repair that will not be that noticeable.

Battle wound. Road rash. Hard to avoid since these cars are low and wide with poor visibility of that spot. Bound to happen again particularly when turning out of a tight curb spot and you probably will not feel, hear, or notice it happened. Ask me how I know.

I will post before and after pictures. This will be a first for me.
Let us know how it goes. As EdP and Pulsar said, a spray paint would be easier, but I haven't seen that in a matched car paint color.

Yes. Looks to be the same place I ordered mine from. With shipping just under $30 and I did not get the clear. Have not tried mine yet for I intend to paint my hood and trunk emblem partially as an accent color. Took several weeks for the paint to arrive. A low cost test to see if you can live with the results before a body shop nails you for $300+ and repaints the whole lower facia cover.

I wholeheartedly agree - plus you'll have the paint for any future incidents with that front end scraping a cement parking stud.

Another option is look at a body wrap for the car, or if there is someone talented enough to do a partial wrap with a matching color over the bumper.

What do you guys think about this chip/dent on my hood? Should I order a paint pen and a PDR shop? A co-worker gave me his PDR kit to use but I am not comfortable with it, especially using the hot glue, which he claims will come off with the release agent. I don't trust my skills and would prefer to push liability on to an expert.

First, try a DIY repair- what have you got to lose?
Then relax. If we drive these cars at all they are bound to get a little road rash from time to time. Depends on how anal you are.

Here is a somewhat educated but not exact repair "Guesstamate".
3.0 hours to remove, disassemble components and reinstall the bumper cover
1.5 hours to repair
3.0 hours to refinish
1.2 hours to clearcoat
4.2 @ $24.00/hr for Paint & materials
Labor in my area is $48.00/hour average in collision shops
SO: 8.7hrs =$417.60 labor + $100.80 for P & M = $518.40 + sales tax & possibly shop supplies.
This would be close to accurate on labor hours but not exact and labor cost per hour varies greatly by local. Florida is pretty low on the scale. This is a insurance claim, Collision part of your policy but it seems most folks on this site have $500 and up deductibles which makes this a more realistic out of pocket expense.

Definitely vote for the touch up paint approach (white front end). Afterwards you can evaluate the results and decide if you can live with it. Likely you will notice it only when you are looking for it. As a another poster indicated, this is a vulnerable part of the vehicle (and part of the car that is relatively little seen). I would hate to invest the significant time and money for professional fix and scrape it again in another month. Good luck.

That statement reminds me of my dad's last car (God rest his soul). He had dents and scrapes on all four corners. Never a serious wreck, though.

I think your dad had his head and heart in the right place. I love cars and take pride in taking good care of them. That said I am not sure the time I have spent waxing and 'agonizing' over minor dings and mishaps on my cherished vehicles was (in retrospect as a 65 year old) the best use of the precious time I have on earth. That said we are who we are and taking pride in my appearance and vehicles was just part of my upbringing.

Well, great response, there have been 35 or more replies and I've read them all. They range from fix it like factory to what's another dent, your just going to get more. The first dent on a new auto is important as it means more to the owner than any of us. Of course the 2nd and 3rd, so on, become less important and common place if you failed to fix the first one correctly. This is my thinking but you may not agree. My Genesis is 5 years old and I still try to keep it blemish free.

So, what has DrKK decided to do with his Genesis regarding the scrape? Are you ordering touchup or is a professional doing the fix? Share with us. Thanks.

Yes, this has been a very useful thread.

I am still meditating on how to proceed, but most likely will try the spray-can touch-up paint job. If I do a terrible job, there's no harm, since it would just be the professionals repainting it anyway, as you all have said.

It's like my first child - when it dropped their pacifier on the floor, I boiled it in water to sterilize it. Second child - I washed it off in the sink. Third child; wipe the pacifier off on your jeans - good to go!
