When I first bought my G90, I never paid attention to the box of scent cartridges that I had been given as a gift by Genesis. After about a year of owning the G90, I was curious, so I installed the scent cartridges. I was surprised and disappointed when I had no scent in the cabin. The cartridges were new and unopened, stored in an air-conditioned closet in their sealed box until I installed them. One could only sense a hint of fragrance upon startup when the car had been sitting in the sun, but after that initial whiff, there was nothing. If the car interior was cool, then there was no scent whatsoever. So, I told the dealer about it the next time the car went in for routine service. They checked the system and determined that the cartridges were empty, even though the icon on the dashboard read full. I reminded them that they were new when I installed them a few weeks earlier, and that I had installed a brand new one on the day I took it in. I had put in the one with my least favorite scent so if they used it all up while running their tests, it wouldn't matter. Nevertheless, they insisted the cartridge was empty and that I had to buy a new box for over $200. I complained to Genesis corporate, who took me seriously and communicated back and forth with the dealer for weeks, ultimately sending the dealer a new box of scent cartridges. The process took so long that it was enough time for the car to need another oil change, so back it went for routine service. Brand new cartridges were installed by the dealer and when I picked up my car a few days later, the service writer said everything had been corrected; the fragrance dispenser was working. I got in my car, turned on the air-conditioning, tapped the fragrance button and...nothing. It was at that point that I decided that it was just not important to have a functioning fragrance dispenser; my car is spotless, has no particular odor, and still looks brand new. In all fairness, the next time I went to the dealer, the service manager asked me if the fragrance dispenser was working and I replied that it wasn't. He said that he would have a "Genesis engineer" come out and look at it the next time it went in for maintenance, but I'm not holding my breath. Overall, I'm quite happy with my G90, especially knowing how other, much more expensive, cars ride and drive and seeing no discernable difference that would justify spending $100K more than what I paid for the G90 to get something different. I use it as my daily driver and I'm not considering changing it out unless and until I find something else that is genuinely better. So what if the fragrance dispenser doesn't work?
