  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2013 Sedan w/ HID headlights. Recently, a retread from a semi fell off a truck while I was going down the highway and cracked my driver-side headlight -still functioned fine.

My immediate reaction was to hop on Ebay and get a replacement (dealership wanted $1,500 for HID w/LED). So I pay about $400 and get a used OEM headlight. The problem is that the bulb color doesn't match my other stock HID bulb, and to make matters worse, the Ebay headlight is actually an adaptive xenon, meaning that it pivots in the housing to direct light as you're driving.

I actually prefer the color in the Ebay headlight more (matches LED), so I'm thinking the easiest fix is to use the Ebay headlight and just change the existing yellowish passenger HID to match. The problem is I don't know where to start in terms of buying an HID bulb that would match, and am unsure how to install. I attached some pictures of the Ebay headlight/ballast to provide the specs. You can also see in one of the pics the difference in housing between the adaptive and regualr HID. Any help would be sincerely appreciated!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I thought all of the HID in the Genesis were adaptive lights? They were in my 2011 and they are in my 2014.

As for build color, they are identified by 4000 5000 6000 7000 etc. You need to pull the bulb from the eBay light and see which it is, then order the same color code from someplace.

I'm betting the R spec's have adaptive and the 3.8's do not.

I posted some pictures of the bulb that shows the spec, and do not see any indication of the color. The back of the bulb says "Osram H11" ... Not sure what I'm missing here.

Per the 2012 3.8 tech package "Headlights: Xenon; Headlight control and active headlights"

So I started going through my stock headlights, and found they actually use a H11 bulb behind the projector (not even sure if that's HID)?

The ebay HID headlight I purchased has an Osram Xenarc 66140 D1S 35W Xenon Headlight HID Bulb. I'd like to match this, but not sure how to go about this when I have an H11 bulb on the passenger headlight... Please take a look at pictures to avoid confusion.

Unless you have the Tech package, you don't have HIDs.

Very odd, the car is loaded. Even has Lexicon package w/ Nav... The rubber piece on top of the head lights also say "HID" with code numbers. All that to say, they're H11 bulbs with projector lenses for an HID setup.

No idea how to fix my dilemma... convert the H11's to HID that match the Ebay headlights?

Touch Nav or DIS knob?

Wouldn't your insurance cover this???

The H11 bulb you pulled out is probably the high beam bulb. You can see the HID ballast (metal box) in the first two pictures. The HID bulb should be attached to the ballast, and they should twist out together. Edit: I just re-read your post, and realize that the pictures are of one side. If you really replaced a factory halogen headlight with HID, I suspect you'd need a different wiring harness to connect it, but I could be wrong. If you have the cash and everything (e.g. active curve illumination) works, I recommend getting a second OEM HID headlight assembly from eBay.

There are a couple of reasons why the eBay bulb may be different than the one in your car. HID bulbs color shift to a higher CCT (and lose output) as they age, and there are slight differences in the color among different companies. Because of these reasons, they normally recommend replacing HID bulbs in pairs.

If you're looking for a whiter (higher CCT) HID bulb, I'd recommend either the Philips X-treme Vision (4800K) or the Osram CBI (5000K). Most other higher CCT bulbs sacrifice light output, but both of these produce the same as a standard 4300K HID bulb (~3200 lumens).

I've used the Osram CBI in other cars, and they were a pure white (not blue like the name would suggest). However, some colors, especially yellow and green, were a bit washed out compared to standard Philips 4300K bulbs. I've never used the Philips X-treme Vision 4800K bulbs, but I've heard lots of good things about them.

(The links above are for the D1S version of the bulbs. I'm not sure if that's what the first gen uses.)

Thanks Star! You're right, I have halogen bulbs and should have never purchased an HID headlight. I'm thinking at this point I should purchase another halogen headlight and return the setup to stock. My concern with the adaptive HIDs is that they won't work properly with a car setup to use halogen bulbs.

I'll look to buy another halogen headlight and sell the HID headlight.
