  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

HID Headlights

He texted me a response to your question:

"From the headlight beam to the center of the front emblem is width. Height is floor to center of the headlight beam. Should be 28" height and 27" wide from center."

There's also a certain distance to the measuring surface that has to be specified to make the adj accurate. Did he say what it is? Can he send you the diagram showing the adjustment parameters (distance from vertical surface, height, width, measuring points, etc.)? Then we could actually do these changes accurately instead of just guessing. :)

He has gone home for the weekend. All I can say is that he is licensed for vehicle inspections and all that regulations are mandated by the state. Including the dimensions he provided.
You folks and your excessive questions.
Just go with the numbers he kindly provided. :D

The numbers provided are completely worthless without the horizontal distance away from the vertical surface that the car needs to be when measuring the beam height and width...

It's not that we don't appreciate the info, it's just that it's incomplete without the other specs, making it virtually impossible to do an accurate adjustment without them. I do appreciate what you and he are providing, though. Thanx.

How is the width controlled?

I'm want to know this as well. My gen2 was delivered with low beam aimed low and had to adjust myself many times to get it right. But the passanger side low beam seems to be aimed slight to the left.

I pulled the car into the inspection bay. He had me park the car inside the painted guide lines on the floor to make sure the car was parked centered and straight. Against the wall, is a headlight beam marker horizontal height line, with the middle indicated by a divider line. The horizontal marked line indicates the standard DOT height for passenger vehicle headlight low beams. Using the marked lines, you can see if the beams are low/high/left/right. Then you make the appropriate adjustment.
My suggestion is to visit a garage that has the markings for precise adjustment and problem solved.

Don't know about the Gen2, but with the 2012 model, all it takes is a long phillips screwdriver and opening the hood. I hope these guys knew what they were doing........

Same on 2g.

Could you please provide pictures? The idiot tech at the dealership claimed that it was "impossible" to adjust the headlights. He/She left before I got a chance to call BS to his/her face.

This will be quicker: Open your hood and look at the points where the left and right fenders meet the radiator support at the left and right front corners of the open area exposed when the hood is open. You'll find a white tube in each corner location. Take a flashlight and look down into either of the tubes and you'll see a kinda star shaped piece in the bottom of the tube. This is the part you engage with the phillips screwdriver. Turning the screwdriver clockwise will raise the beam pattern. Good luck. :)

That would be it. Good job with the search function.....

FWIW, the adjustment on the various years seems to be the same, but the locations APPEAR different because in previous years the access was through an access hole in a cover. Not quite the same in 2015 (at least the 3.8), as the adjustment guide tubes are visible now. The adjustment process is the same, though.

2015 Genesis with headlights aimed to low, afraid an adjustment may affect the Lane Keep Assist System
