  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

HID Headlights?

More options in D2S. More manufacturing means better QC (generally). More interchangeable and readily available.

I'd recommend high quality (ex. OSRAM/Philips/Others) 5000K (crystal white...hard to find) or 6000K (slight blue hint) based on my years of messing with kits on other cars. Going with the cheap ones you will get a lot of blue tint at 6000K. 8000K is very blue regardless of quality.

As far as the Genesis and replacement of the bulbs, I have not done it but looked into it and it does not appear the bumper needs to be removed but you will likely need to remove some parts near the light housings to get to the bulbs.

Looked in the manual to confirm which bulb they are in the 2015, and they are D1S.

That kinda sucks. I would still say do 5000k (I have them in my car and love them) from here: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/components/bulbs/morimoto-xb35-d1s-bulbs.html#.VaVloPlVhBc

Thanks! I was looking on that website for the bulbs, and just stumbled upon the clear lens for projectors. I just love when I can see the cutoff (like from my previous Q50). Does anyone happen to know what the size of our projector lens is? Or are they all pretty standard across the board of 3 inches?

I recently bought a 15 Genesis that has HID headlights. They seem really dim compared to other cars I've had with HID. Also, they are supposed to turn with cornering and be self leveling. I haven't seen any of this. Could it be that they installed the wrong headlamps?

Anyone else have these concerns, or have the HIDs and can comment?

Thanks.
Auto leveling is optional in 3.8 and standard with 5.0. I found this out too late after my purchase, but its minor issue that I can live with. I'm not sure what all the buzz is about Genesis being luxury when it nick picks on the options. All models should have auto leveling as standard equipment. Other manufacturers cars of lesser cost have auto leveling device.

Compared to who? You did not carefully look at options before you bought and blame Hyundai.

Are you sure you're being objective here? Have you honestly compared the options of other brands in question to the Genesis? Hyundai may lose luxury comparisons based on brand perception, but it's not going to lose many direct comparisons based on content.

They are standard auto leveling if they are HID. In other words, if you have the signature package or above on the 3.8 you do have auto leveling.

Keep in mind a lot of makes hold back options, for example I traded in a 2013 Lexus GS which only offers adaptive headlights on the luxury package. Even $60k+ GS 350 F sport models won't have adaptive headlights.

Yeah - gotta compare apples to apples when making a statement like that, Carnut. Until last year - even the entry model BMW 528i - which comes with a 2 litre 4 cylinder - did not have HID (and consequently self-leveling) as standard equipment. Completely stripped down this car is also $50,000 and is the cheapest of the 5's. Oh - and if you want a rear camera - that's an extra $1800.

That is the truth.

You are getting caught up in the new fad. LED lights do not have the great output that HID does. Going to LED is going backwards. They are cool but not quite there yet. See this. http://www.caradvice.com.au/278125/headlights-explained-halogen-v-hid-v-led-v-laser/

I ABSOLUTELY concur with your statement! I pick up and deliver all types and brands of luxury cars, from Lexus to Bentleys- you name it, as a part time job and while LED headlamps look "cool" and appear to put out great light output, they can't "hold a candle" (get it- LOL :D) to a good HID setup. In fact all 3 cars I own have HID headlamps because I find them invaluable helping my 62 year old eyes safely navigate driving at night

I have osram CBI 5500k d1S in my 15 Genesis. They match LED "position lights" and LED foglights beautifully/.

Those are the good HID lights. There are definitely differences in quality among HID headlights (with dramatic differences in cost). The Osrams are top-tier.

i had 5000k on my KIA and loved the output... they were cheap ones from Ebay and still looked great after 4years.. i believe they were the D1S also... I would probably stay with 5000k... for the Genesis..

The bumper needs to be removed. Just did mine. Not totally removed but yeah it must come off to do it right.
