My 2019 G70 2.0T needs a new High Pressure Fuel Pump at only 36,000 miles. I find it to be unusual so early. All of the regularly scheduled maintenance has been done by the dealership. No mods, as car is completely stock. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
 
nope, first i heard of it. Keep us posted for how the repair goes. Hope parts are readily available.

If it failed I’m assuming you were left stranded? This is my first GDI engine but have not heard folks here with a systemic problems with the HPFP. Did you get an engine code when it failed on you?

Dealership said the part should hopefully be in mid week.

The car went into limp mode. I drove it the rest of the way home & then again to the dealer the next morning. When it happened I called connected services and they got me a next morning appointment. They also offered tow if needed, but the car was drivable but slow. The engine code was P0088.
 
I had the same issue. My 2022 2.0t had the same code pop up at 2k miles. The dealership tried a fuel sensor first, bit that didn't work. They are now working on replacing the fuel pump. It's been in the shop for over a month

Any word on how long before the part comes in? What type of loaner did you get?



They gave me a 2020 G70 2.0 AWD. It's funny, the part came in yesterday and I just picked mine back up today.

With a code your dealer should not be having to experiment or guess on what needs to be replaced. Order the parts per the code, R&R and be done and hopefully code is now gone. A month sucks so I assume most of that has been waiting on a part from Korea?

Yeah, the pump was on backorder. It took 2 weeks to get here.

The service guy said they had never seen the code before and didn't know how to fix it. So they guessed until they figured it out.

Scary stuff or/or just an incompetent dealer. Online dealer service manual should lead the dealer to probable causes based on the code. I also assume dealers have a Genesis dealer network help line of sorts to provide suggestions to the technician for those oddball never before seen defects. Just thankful my G70 has never seen a dealer service bay yet. Glad your part came in.

The 2022 3.3T SP I returned was doing a horrible racket by the HPFP, so probably an issue with the cam-driven gearing related to it. I was really surprised Hyundai used the freaking cam to power that fuel pump. I thought it was electric too, like the low-pressure one on port-injected vehicles (or dual-injection ones, like my SF 2.5T, which has both). Still remember changing fuel pumps in the 70s, also driven by the cam on those push-rod engines. But at least on the G70, it should be a relatively easy job to replace it, no? The issue is the hoses, where I wouldn't trust my local dealer to do it right. Hopefully I'll never have an issue with this car, so it doesn't have to ever touch a dealer :).

You really don't like your dealer it seems. Have you had bad experience with them in the past or do you not trust the training/credentials of the tech's there?

How many miles did you have when your fuel pump took a dump? Wondering if there is similar failure milage here since several have had this same issue?

Both. Ha ha. I've bought 8 vehicles there, and the 2 times I had to take them for a recall, they damaged it. So it's based 100% on (bad) experience. And most of the new vehicles I've bought have had oil overfilled, tires overinflated, coolant reservoir at the min mark or lower, or a combination of them, so still don't trust them. The G70 was overfilled with oil (had to suck 1/2-qt), and coolant at 'min'. I took care of that myself, as always :). Already had bought an OEM pink gallon of 50/50 coolant to top off the SF, so already had it there. And sucked the extra oil with my fluid extractor.
