  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

High-tech vehicle systems get short shrift by many drivers

Interesting. I think like most people, we use our phones and their software which car manufacturers are always years behind. If we could simply see the phone's display on the car's display, or use regular Android/iOS with their marketplace/store everyone would be happy and use their car's system more than their phone (because it would be nearly identical).

I think no matter how much money car manufacturers invest, OS design is not their main investment, so it's probably cheaper/better to just use what's already available, especially Android, so with free updates, they would always be on par with phones (minus the hardware).

It would be nice to be able to opt out of the stuff you get and have to pay for but don't want. I like nav and blind spot monitoring, but not Bluetooth and all the other junk - it's just more stuff to break down. I don't use cruise control, and if I need to make a call (which happens maybe once a year) I can whip out my trusty $10/month flip phone and dial it (but not while driving). So I am forced to spend thousands on stuff I don't want and will never use. You can add sunroof to that list as well...:(

The last purchase that I made when you could actually make a bona fide customized auto buy was the time I bought a '91 Buick.

At the same time, I was able to buy thru a service called "United Buyer's Service" for $100 over invoice - no hassle.

Never since then has buying a car been a decent experience.

How many people use "speech recognition"?

Never!

The Bluelink Google search function on the mirror is awesome. You can actually say, "Clock Restaurant in Arcadia Florida" and it will bring it up no matter how far away you are.

All the time. Making phone calls using speech works better on this car than any I've had before. Not 100%, but close.

I do that all the time with my BT connected android phone running Waze, even though I don't have Bluelink.
