  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Home screen freezes up

Really love the car but will not consider another Genesis.
Really ? --- You're going to get a car that you don't Love?

Problem fixed! In order to cancel the Traffic and Travel subscriptions you actually need to cancel the entire subscription (including music) and then they re-activate only the music subscription. FYI, the regular customer service people don't have the ability to do this but the "technical services" people do. It took a long time and some frustration but they took care of it. Personally, I never used those two services so good riddance as far as I'm concerned.
For those who want the Traffic and Travel services there might be a software fix thru Genesis at some point but who knows how long that will take.

I have not seen anyone post these additional symptoms yet and wanted to include a few of my other observations. Of course, I experience the same issues as the rest of the Genny owners here. However, I have also experienced the navigation lock up in the middle of a trip, which is frustrating to fumble with my phone while driving to get to my destination. Also, my G80 has the heads up display with the speed limit. After the system locks, the speed limit freezes and is incorrect. On occasion, I subconsciously rely on it while driving and have noticed myself speeding when the lockup occurs. Also, while the system is locked, text messages are not received by the unit via Bluetooth connection. While these issues are not serious primary system malfunctions, it does negatively contribute to driver safety.

I am happy to see there is a workaround to cancel the TravelLink service I paid when I bought the car (sorry, complimentary service). I am debating the SXM call to tech services, but am concerned they will give me $5 for my trouble (as another has pointed out). My patience is running low after 5 weeks with this issue so I might make the sacrifice. Thanks to all that have tested and contributed to this thread.

Maybe time for a class action lawsuit discussion. I also consider whether Motor Trend or Car and Driver might be interested in the story. I have considered a report with NHTSA. After a recent accident with a GV80 that caught the attention of the media, I would imagine an issue like this might garner more focus for Genesis / Hyundai, regardless of blame.

Thanks for listening to my frustration and ranting. Drive safe.

I am having the same additional issues that you are having. Yes, it's very frustrating. I contacted MapnSoft, and they are aware of the issues. They are working with SXM and the manufacturer of the DIS navigation system to come up with a fix. They also told me it's related to Travel Link.

I just purchased a 18 G80 Sport. And have noticed the home screen will allow you to move to each icon, but won't let you choose them. I have tried touching the screen, as well as the center knob. Neither will let me enter into any app. Or it will freeze when in an app. Can't change the radio or use the navigation. Anyone experience this?

Thanks for your post. I'm having all the same issues as you. I have an appointment with my dealer next week, they want to change out the radio. I feel like they haven't been notified by Hyundai that this is an issue. I will direct them to this forum. And I am going to tell them not to change out the radio. Don't want to add another problem to the problem.

This is my 3rd Genesis and the first one that I've had any problems with. I will hope that this gets resolved soon because I'm becoming very disappointed with the brand. My SirusXM subscription runs out on the 03/07/2021 and I've told them to renew without TravelLink or Traffic. We'll see if that takes care of the problem. Although I will miss the Traffic service.

I purchased a 18 g80 sport 6 weeks ago. I have experienced all these problems with the info-nav system. They have replaced the system once. Still is freezing. They are trying a second replacement this week. Hope it fixes it.

It won't --- It's a software problem.... If you read this entire thread you'll understand. It is caused by the XM Travel Link stuff....

Read the thesis on my findings in the Sirius XM Malfunction thread. before you trying a second replacement this week.

Actually, I had those problems and posted them back on page 4. I didn't notice the speed limit freeze, but now I'm wondering. I noted to my wife that the Nav was showing a speed limit of 65 on a road a knew had a 55 limit. I even reported the discrepancy to MnSoft. Now I'm wondering it it had frozen while I was on the highway prior to exiting onto the 55 MPH road.

There is a lot of good information in this topic, but some conflicting information as well This is because it was a discovery process by Genesis owners, and I think basically we are the ones who figured out the problem, and the short term solution. The issue was confused because many were upgrading their map software at the same time the problem occurred leading many to assume it was caused by the upgrade. Also, unless you were trying to do a function that was affected by the problem you may never notice the problem. If you always listen to the same radio station it might be quite some time before you actually notice there is a problem. I rarely use navigation, but when I did, I noticed a problem first with Waze, and then with the native navigation and the HUD when I tried to switch.

For those of you who are or were on Complementary subscriptions for Travel Link and Traffic, you should report the problem to both Mnsoft and Genesis Customer Care and make sure you get a case number. I'm pretty sure they will credit you back for the subscription time lost due to the problem once it's fixed with a new software version. I did this, and even though everyone I talked to at MnSoft and Genesis said they couldn't do anything about the Travel Link/Traffic subscription, my subscription was eventually suspended. I did not cancel everything with SXM. In my one conversation with SXM they basically blew me off and told me to take it to an authorizes dealer. I'm sure they didn't cancel the service on their own initiative.

I called XM and told them I wanted to Cancel my Current Subscription, because of the freezing problems and then I would renew for another year. I had 4 months on the remaining Subscription which they refunded to my Credit Card and then Charged the Full year to the same Credit Card. My New Subscription now does not show the Travel Crap anymore and so far, so good !! -- DO NOT HAVE YOUR HEAD UNIT REPLACED !!! --- This is not a hardware problem and is easily fixed. Especially if you don't want the XM Traffic Link Stuff !

I just did the same thing. Problem fixed!

Problem fixed here too. I dropped my trial subscription (only 2 months left) and then re-activated only a music subscription liked mentioned above. I did go through regular customer service and it was very easy. I did this yesterday, 3/3/21 and haven't had any issues with the radio or navigation freezing. Good luck to all. Don't Replace the Head Unit, That's Not The Problem. I was scheduled to have mine replaced next week. So glad I found this forum.

New owner here. Can you please tell me what information I needed an # to call to drop my subscription. Own car only 2 weeks and have same problems. Thank You.

I found it fairly easy to get MapNSoft to suspend my travelink subscription temporarily. Their customer service team seems fully up to date on the problem. I sent them a message through the MapNSoft.com/genesis website and they got back to me within an hour. They need your VIN and your SXM Radio ID (go to channel 0 to get radio ID). Travellink service was removed within 24 hours. They will also keep track of affected VINs to be sure your service is reactived once the problem fix is applied in case SXM doesn't do it automatically. No need to cancel your entire subscription or SXM traffic which isn't affected.

It's good to hear that MapNSoft is taking a more proactive approach. In the early days, just a few weeks ago, they were getting complaints but really didn't know the source of the problem. At their request, I actually sent them a YouTube video I made which demonstrated the problem with changing channels.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I too was able to submit my VIN and Radio ID through their Chat function on MapNSoft.com/genesis. It was relatively quick after a couple preliminary model, software version questions.

They reiterated the same mid-April timeframe for a software fix and 24-48 hours before my SiriusXM Travel data is suspended.

For what its worth - I recently acquired a 2018 Genesis G80 Sport, having previously owned a 2015 3.8 l. Two weeks after getting my 2018, the Sirius XM freezing nonsense began. I took it to the dealership and had the head replaced under the extended warranty. (Obviously I had not seen this thread at the time.). And - as would be expected - changing the $6,000 head unit didn't fix the freezing issue.

After reading your threads (above) I called Sirius XM - asked them to cancel my service and re-initiate it without the Traffic and Travel link - and the freezing issue is GONE! Phew. I wish I had known about this before the head replacement, but thank you all for the advice and the resulting outcome! I am back to loving my car! Just wanted to let others know that the issue can be resolved in Canada as suggested above!

New to this. BUT, having same issue with Sirius freezing up!! So Frustated!
