  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hopeful future Genesis owner.

Thanks, but I am actually located in NJ(northeast).

Ahh sorry post #11 threw me off... but 5.0's will still be sooty in NJ :) Maybe the market is steep in NJ, but prices seem really high for 2012s (~$45k) compared to here in FL ($37-40k). Take the extra $5k and enjoy a weekend trip to Disney & the beach, pick up your car, and drive it back...

That's a great deal. I am considering white right now. How is the up-keep?

Silver colors (titanium or platinum) are best if you don't want to wash the car all the time. Black is worst, white next, then Blue, Red, Titanium, and platinum is best IMO.

Blue is next worst after black IMO.

Thanks for all the comments, and thanks to the OP for starting this thread.

I am looking to buy an used Genesis. I drove an 3.8 V6 couple years ago and liked the way it drove very much. My question is which year and model to buy. I would like all the electronic features so my guess is I should look at the 4.6 V8 since it comes fully loaded, but I am not set on that.

More importantly, I have read here that some are having problems with the following:

1) the 8 speed transmission (I don't recall exactly which year and model)

2) some cars (or tires) don't go straight on the road, pulling to the left or right? I don't recall which year/model and/or tire brand.

Also, some would like smoother ride, less of a bouncy feel

If you know about these issues or any other significant issues please share with us. And which year and model is best to buy for an used Genesis?

Thanks for everyones comments.

The problems you have heard about with the 8spd transmission don't represent a statistically sound rationale for not buying a 2012. There are plenty of them that have not failed. And conversely, there are plenty of ZF 6spds in 2009-2011 Genesises that have failed, and in cars costing far more than the Genesis.

The Hyundai 8spd transmission was developed in collaboration with Aisin, one of the most respected transmission manufacturers in the world, and most closely resembles the 8spd transmission in the Lexus LS460 since late 2006. That transmission has been one of the most absolutely bullet-proof parts of that car

Some of the "pulling to the right" issues are very complex, involving tire design and manufacturing variances. Hunter Road Force balancing uncovers some of those issues. In other cases, misalignment is the cause. Rule of thumb: test drive over as extended a time as you can, drive on mixed road surfaces, and make sure any pulling isn't exaggerated by road crown.

Good luck!

There have been more reliability issues with the tech package Genesis models than with the base cars. However it is still a wonderful car for the vast majority of people, according to owner loyalty and quality/reliability surveys.

Yea, I would guess the GDI engine will be sooty no matter where the Genesis is located geographically :)

As I said, I am open to traveling for a great deal. I've traveled before to get a car and I've never been to the left coast...

Yeah, usually silver hides dirt the best. It's a balancing act because I don't want to get a color that I have to wash every other day in order to look good and I really don't want a silver color car because they are so popular.

Owned a black car once. Emphasis on "once".

Nearing 4 years with my '09 4.6. Absolutely no regrets, suspension and all. I do want a heated steering wheel, but you can't always get (everything) you want.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I am in Columbus, Ohio and dealer 1 hour north still has 2012 base model 4 door Genesis sedan Platinum Metallic (silver) with black interior listed at $27,600 new on their web site. The car has been sitting there a while and I was close to buying at $27k 1 month ago but purchased different color from another dealer- I think you could get them down to 26,500 maybe lower plus tax, and title.
It is a base model so depending on what you need it might not have all the options you want but for that amount of money you would be getting a great car at a pretty good price in my opinion.

Big +1. I really miss the heated steering wheel I had in my old car. Never thought I would miss it, and then it got cold.

Just to let anyone who is interested in purchasing a 2012 Genny, the factory has given the dealers $5000. called "Dealer Cash" to help reduce their 2012 Genesis inventory. The dealer has the option to pass some or all of it to a customer at their discrection. Unlike a customer rebate that they have to give the customer. In addition there is approx. $3000. from dealer cost to MSRP. So if you are a good negotiator you could probably get $8000. off of sticker. And if you are a previous Hyundai customer and still have one there may be some loyalty money. Good luck shopping.

I own a 2010 4.6 tech package and love the power that is a available. Picked it up for $27,500 with 24k on the od 9 months ago so deals are out there. If you are looking at the 2012, you dont need the V8 as the V6 has 333 ponies which is very respectable. Some dont like the ride in the 2010-11's but I have no quarrels as it actually rides smoother than my wifes 08 E class we just lauched for a new Azera. I do recomend the tech package or your gonna want to replace the base radio if thats possible

Happy hunting

Hmmm - I heard that the 8 spd AT was developed in conjunction w/ ZF.
