If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Horn in Genesis

If someone told me that people obsess over the sound quality of their horn I would have said no way. That was before reading this thread. Live and learn.

I do not like a weak horn either, in fact when my wife had a Nissan cube I replaced it the first week she had it. It was pathetic in stock form. That being said the Genesis is fine.

I was just looking for a small, simple improvement. It shouldn't take much.

I've had people try to change lanes into me even after laying on the horn. I think the problem is either:
  • 1) Modern cars, even economy cars, are too well insulated or have too loud stereos for the horn to be heard or
  • 2) They drive so terribly all of the time that they've learned to ignore the constant sound of people honking at them or
  • 3) They assume I'm going to slam on my brakes rather than let them hit me
A louder horn would only solve #1. Maybe the sound of gunshots would be more effective. Unfortunately, I doubt I could claim that they were using their car as a lethal weapon and I believed my life was in danger.

I would actually disagree with that statement. But then again - I approach it from the perspective of a motorcyclist. Just because I have a cage around me when in the car doesn't mean that the careless driving of others is not a direct threat upon my safety & life.

I use a wolo "bad boy" (Harbor Freight) on my motorcycle. I did have a problem with them wearing out (a copy of the Stebel) , until I mounted them correctly so that road debris and oils didn't ruin the device.

Anyway, They are very loud, a little on the shrill side, but for the $$ it is a great upgrade.

Really wakes the Millenial texting and drifting in to my lane wake up and put down the device... highly effective. I have used them defensively very effectively, and offensively on a few occasions. They do work well.

There are other options, like quad horns, etc.

Depending on where the horn is located (not sure) mounting the wolo is fairly simple, running a relay was easy to install (even for me!).

I don't like the sound of the horn on the Genesis at all. This isn't a big deal, but is probably easy to fix. Does anyone know of an additional note horn to add to the Genesis to improve the sound? Does anyone know where the Genesis horn is mounted?

lobsenza, did you ever get an answer to your question?

Does anyone have an answer?

I have been looking around and found out that there are 2 horns listed for the 2016 Genesis. A low note and a high note. My car only has one note (not sure which it is). I think it must depend on which packages it has. Mine is a BASE model. Or maybe they are all the same and one of mine is disconnected.

So back to the question, does anyone know where the horns are mounted? I can't see them anywhere and I am just to old to start taking parts off until I find them.

Thanks everyone.

I never got an answer. My Genesis sounds like it only has 1 note. I am not sure where the horn is mounted. Adding the 2nd note would probably solve the problem.

I have the Ultimate trim.

I wonder if you have a bad horn. I have a Signature, and the horn is fine, and you can definitely hear both notes.

Maybe I do. The only way I know to tell is find another Genesis and honk the horn or have someone upload a sound file of a Genesis horn. Thanks for the idea, I hadn't thought of a defect.

I brought my car in for service and while i was dropping the car off, i honked the horn of a Genesis in the showroom. It sounded much better. It turns out that my horn was defective and they ordered a new horn for me. I should get the car back tomorrow or Monday.

Funny! I just tapped on the horn yesterday for the first time - just to see if it worked.
Sounds like something you would hear on a golf cart. What a joke.
But I'm not about to spend $$ to replace or upgrade it.
Mines sounds like that now too
