  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This may sound like a dumb question, but are any of you disappointed with the stock horn? It kind of sounds like a dying goose when used and wanted to see if anyone has chaned that? Perhaps the Equus comes equipped with a horn that actually sounds like it doesn't belong on a 1996 Honda Civic.

I also plan to upgrade my horn at some point... I figure I can just install some aftermarket horn with a better sound.

dg: That horn is better sounding than stock, but I think the horn should sound like the horns they use in many bigger American/European cars like the aftermarket horn from this car... [ame="www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxXZhSDXquA"]2007 Mazda 3s car horn swap - YouTube[/ame]

I am not going to swap out my horn. When I blow my horn because the idiot in front of me hasn't noticed that light turned green 10 seconds ago, I don't want him/her to think it was me blowing the horn. Must of been one those compact cars behind us.:D

I think Hyundai uses a universal horn for all the models from the Accent to the Genesis, hopefully the Equus doesn't have the same horn.

while I agree it sounds like crap, it's actually a lot louder from outside the car than you may think. The Genesis has so much sound isolation, it's hard to hear it from the cabin. You can also buy these. They should fit in the OEM brackets:

Anyone got those mobis horns? How do they sound?

i replaced my stock horns with a set of air horns & wired it up to my panic alarm also, hit the panic button on your key fob & listen to that silly noise and you will see what i mean

Agreed, very weak horn!

The BEST car horn I can ever recall was my Dad's '74 Cadillac Eldorado. I think it had four separate horns but knowing Dad, he probably added one or two. The car blared this dissonant minor chord that reminded me of a horror movie; I can still hear it. I think it must've been because of the current draw and variety of horns, but one or two must’ve come to full volume a split second more slowly than the rest, giving it that haunting effect. Geez... the things we remember.

I have a '12 Genesis and I like its horn, nevertheless....

I replaced the stock horn on my 06 Sonata with a Wolo Bad Boy...it was awesome and caused a pizza delivery kid, who was on his cellphone and crowding into my lane, to drop his cellphone OUT THE CAR WINDOW at about 40 mph...:D

On my old Isuzu pickup truck, last year, I replaced the stock "ricer burner" horn with a Stebel High and Low...so it sounds like a big old Caddy or big pickup truck. It gets attention.

I replaced the motorcycle horn on my Suzuki with a Stebel Nautilus as well. It gets heard.

When I think "horns" I think "Stebel". :)

If you really wanna walk the walk, though, THIS is the ticket:

Nothing like having a locomotive horn on your vehicle. Got a friend who has one (he's the one who showed me the site), and we were sitting at one of the local busy intersections, first in line, waiting for the green arrow to make a left turn. The light changes green but as usual. there are two or three people who just keep coming well after red and then intrude into our green, coming from the RIGHT, making their left turns. Well, my buddy just said "Watch THIS" and he hit that locomotive horn...the woman who was in the last car, now keep in mind this was probably TWO full seconds after OUR light turned green arrow..he laid on that horn..and well, yea she was yakkin on her cellphone and I will bet $100 that she crapped her pants....out here in the desert, nearest railroad is 35 miles N, and she gets a full blast of a locomotive horn...she screamed something in her phone, and dropped it, her eyes got as big as saucers and It looked like she was ready to meet her maker....she had to have thought a TRAIN was bearing down on her at a crossing....no doubt she had to get the drivers seat cleaned....

I've added Hella Supertone horns to several of my vehicles. At 118 dB they are suitably loud. I've always just replaced the existing horns with the Hella pair. The stock relay has always worked just fine. Gonna do it on the Genesis one day soon. They can be had online for about $60.

post a link when you can...

I added an air horn. The fuses blew with both original horns, and the air horn, so I have one high note original horn and the air horn. It's better. Not as good as a seventies Cadillac (they had four horn notes, and did indeed sound remarkably like a train horn), but an improvement over the two tone original factory horns (which were n't that bad). I found the air horn on the internet. It has the compressor and horn all in one unit and connects directly with the original horn wire.

Was it a Stebel Nautilus? They make several like that, like nautical one. The Wolo Bad Boy can be had at Pep Boys for about $50. We like those types for motorcycles because it's possible, if you have little mounting room, to separate the horn unit from the compressor to mount in nearby but separate areas.

Has anyone installed either the Wolo Bad Boy or the Wolo Big Bad Max in their Genesis?? Would like some tips if possible.. And video of course!!

Okay, this is going to say something about my personality, but I put in a dual compressor truck horn, the kind that you would find on an 18 wheeler. I would take some pics, but the guys removed my grill to do the install. I went to one of those custom stereo shops in Miami, install took about an hour, I paid about $200 with labor. I have done this to every car I owned, and actually did this mod the day I bought it. It was the same guys who did my tint. It is loud enough so that it absolutely scares the C^&p out of people in the street. South Florida has a lot of people who are difficult on the roadway, and having horns like this has saved me more than a few collisions. We also have a problem with people from the Islands who are accustomed to stopping in the middle of traffic, to have a conversation with someone in the street. I have it wired to a button instead of my horn, so the factory horn is still functional. Best money I have ever spent. I don't know the brand, but it is huge, fits fine, and no problem with fuses or electrical. My lights do dim when I hit it. On one of my cars I tried the Hella and you will just be disapointed. If you are going to go, GO BIG. I would not spend the money on a train horn for $1000, a horn for a rig is more than enough to get your point across. The only downside is whenever I drop my son off at the bus stop all the kids cover their ears. Makes me feel a bit like a Jerk. Sometimes you just have to amuse yourself.
