If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hot air in back A/C vent

Re:update Hot air in back A/C vent

service called today and said that I had a coolant leak due to faulty intallation of o rings at factory . said the leak would trip the malfunction light and cause problems with the ac .needs to stay in the shop over the weekend to await parts and should be ready on Monday if everything checks out . service said that they spoke with Hyundai tech support concerning this . all I can do is wait.

update # 2 service called today to say that they fixed the original cooling problem but now the tech cracked the long hose that connects to the cooling box . has to overnight order the hose . another day in the shop . hopefully I can get the car tomorrow late in the day . Marty

got car back yesterday ; problem was traced to a hairline crack in the thermostat housing assembly. evidently came that way from factory . whole unit was replaced and all is working fine . car was in shop for over a week . Marty

While driving today, I reached to the rear seat floor, and my arm and hand passed the center rear vent. HOT. OK, I then pulled over, got out and looked at the vent controls. The temperature control was set up, to the red hot position. Don't know how it got there as the last time I checked it, it was in the down, blue cold position. I moved it down and the air did start to come out cold.

Will keep my eye on it as something (passengers, but I doubt it) caused it to go to the hot position.

BTW, after reading all the posts in this thread, I still don't have any idea how this vent works. Is there some kind of an electrical thing that tells the car to pump heat back there, or is it just a door that scoops hot air or cold air. No idea.

I'm sorry the car was in the shop for over a week.

On the other hand, if they gave you a rental for the whole week and resolved the problem, that's just about the best service you can reasonably expect. Obviously, no problem in the first place is ideal.

But everyone knows somebody that had a problem with their new car - whether it was a Buick, Toyota, Volkswagen, Honda, Nissan, Chrysler, or whatever - that couldn't get the dealer to fix it.

In the center vent in the back seat - no matter what I do - it's blowing hot air. And when I say hot - I mean SUPER hot. It's too hot to put my kids back there when it's blowing. Doesn't matter if you turn the dial on the vent hot or cold.

A/C is fine up front and in the side vents in the back.

The ONLY way I've been able to make it stop in the center back vent is to put the A/C on manual and crank the temperature all the way - past the degrees selection - down to LOW. It then stops spewing the hot air and doesn't put out any air at all.

I've called the dealer back - and they remember this happening on another Genesis they sold - but they don't remember how they fixed it.

Not seeing anything obvious in the owners manual.

Anyone have any ideas?

This is first Hyundai Genesis issue found from korea. They knew the issue after they sold. I think it was 4000 genesis built in same issue.

ARKperformance: Do you know the manufacturing dates of the problem cars? V6 or V8? or both?

Yea with all my new vehicles I had some sort of problem 04 Chrysler T&C Ltd, 05 Odyssey Touring, 08 Camry XLE. Okay my 07 Sienna Ltd didn't give me any problems I could think of right now.

I'm also gonna check my rear seat heater and A/C. I wonder if this affected all the Genesis models since Hyundai made so few.

4 cars in 4 years? Holy cow that's a lot of vehicles. If I may ask, why do you keep switching vehicles?

Because I'm rich that's why. Nah not really, it's because I'm a retard some times when it comes to spending money I don't have. I promised my wife that I will not trade anymore vehicles.

Nothing wrong with being rich, but even though I love minivans that's probably not what I would keep trading.

To get back to the subject, I noticed twice on my recent trip, that the center vent in the rear was blowing HOT air. At first, I thought someone set the vent "switch" to hot, but nobody had been in the back seat. The second time, I knew nobody had set the switch to hot. Somehow, the switch moved to hot all by itself, either because the car has a stiff ride, and bumps caused it to move up to hot, or perhaps the air flow caused it to go to hot. Either way, I now check it every now and then. When I get "A Round Tuit", I will either tape the switch to cold, or will jam a toothpick or piece of cardboard into the switch, to keep in on cold.

First time I had somebody in back seat. Complained they were a liitle hot. Turned down the A/c temp, didn't help. When we got home I checked the dial, it was on hot. Put it on cold and increased air. Will watch it now. Thank God for this forum.
Would be a serious problem since I live in southwest Florida.
Who knows. This could be my first problem with my Genesis.

I found out that mine was blowing out hot air also. So I switched the lever to cold and kept and eye on it. It's been blowing out cold air ever since. I also noticed just by moving it from hot to cold or vice-versa the temperature turns pretty fast almost instant.

I cut a small piece of cardboard, and jammed in into the side of the wheel/switch. It now stays in the cold position.

FWIW, yes, the switch was moving from cold to hot by itself, with nobody touching it. Now stays put.

Greetings. Just wanted to let all that are still having this problem know that after four attempts to get the problem corrected nothing has happened! My last calls to the dealership were to the general manager and still nothing. My next move is to contact Hyundai directly. I've given the dealership more than ample time to fix this, including this entire thread as evidence that its not an isolated problem. In any event, I will keep the board up to date with any further details. Everyone have an enjoyable summer of driving an EXCEPTIONAL automobile!

I checked my back seat vent,it was blowing warm air. The dial was in the middle of hot and cold, turned it to blue. Its blwoing cold air now..will keep checking though

(I didn't finish the string - so please ignore. Sorry!)
