  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How Does Your Genesis Drive in Snow? Icy conditions?

Rocking it is difficult because you can't select 2nd gear without moving the shifter over and then it's awkward to get back to the R. After 5 or 6 back-&-forths, I got out but it had me worried.

Canadian,

Although my main address is in Florida, I do drive in the snow and cold of Penfield (Rochester) NY. I learned in the snows of February, and did so for many years.

If you are "Rocking" your car to get out from being stuck, you are doing it wrong. In addition, you can burn up your transmission. The way I always do it is to:
1. Go forward as far as possible. Then hold brake.
2. Put in Reverse, let go brake and back up as far as possible. Then hold brake.
3. Put in Drive (on the Genesis, best to use "2"), let go brake and go forward as far as possible.

When car stops moving either forward or backward, push brake and shift to other gear (Drive [2] or Reverse). DO NOT LET TIRES SPIN AND DO NOT ROCK.

ctcrcbob,
When I said rocking, I meant exactly what you described and that's how I got out. I guess it's the modern version of "rocking". Thanks

Musher,
My Yokohamas received a 5-star rating from an APA test (Automobile Protection Agency) - Same as the Blizzaks. see: http://www.apa.ca/template.asp?DocID=297
I'm getting used to turning off the ESC whenever I know the tires will spin to avoid a complete loss of power. I think they should add some sort of "Winter" setting that reduces the ESC intervention on a start from stop or at very low speed.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
