  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How far on a tank of gas?

Relax- might be time to change your tampon.

I see... If a new member poses a hypothetical.. and does so as a gentleman for the sake of intellectual discourse, senior members may resort to ad homonym attacks when challenged. Tampons? Confusing this forum with my personal email account? Not likely and not likely.

"Please don't reply to any of my posts in the future"- intellectual discourse?
We in the group banter back and forth and bust balls - mainly for fun- when people don't play nice. We encourage all to respond to posts within the community.

Just put in 20.127 gallons last night, and not sure of the miles on that tank though.:D

Dude, I thought I had a record going today.... but I didn't even come close to that!!!. I'm glad to know the Genesis can keep on truckin' after 20gal is spent.

I put in 18.8gal at 474.4mi....

I probably drove 20mi after the --- was viewable.

Was your gas tank designed by Dr. Who and made by Tardis? (If you don't know about Tardis look it up on Wikipedia: "The interior of a TARDIS is much larger than its exterior") .:D

All right, enough banter. Let's get to the meat of the issue. What I want to know is what happens to the engine when the gas is all gone. Does the engine stop or does it run a few more seconds/minutes? And, if it does run for a few more moments/seconds/minutes.....just how long does it run? And, if it does run for a few more time periods, how did you know you were out of gas? Huh?

Since only one of us has admitted to running out of gas in a Gennie, come on, ttsig, and give us the real scoop on this issue. :p

Lessee, now, if the engine runs for a few more second/minutes then it must not be out of gas, right??

re: dirty gas at the bottom of the tank...

I thought in modern cars the fuel pickup was positioned such that it wouldn't pull the sediment at the bottom of the tank...

Well, I guess that's why I said I didn't quite "run out" of gas since technically I managed to make it to the station without any assistance.

Basically, as I was driving down the Interstate about 75 MPH and I felt the car "shudder" which was my first clue. About 5-10 seconds later the engine just died and some of the dash lights came on. I put the car in neutral, moved into the emergency stopping lane, and coasted as long as I could. I finally came to rest on the side of an offramp with a slight uphill grade. Either from the "sloshing" of the gas in the tank, or just the angle I was sitting, the fuel pump must have picked up enough fuel to repressurize the fuel system since, when I hit start button, the engine fired up again, I threw it in drive and got to about 35MPH in just a couple of seconds before the engine died again. I managed to use the momentum to coast up and across the overpass and back downhill to the gas station. I didn't try to start the engine again once I was at the pump, but it might have run another few seconds.

Overall, there doesn't appear to have been any negative effects from the event, and I haven't run out of gas again (nor do I plan too).

I'm getting 29.2 MPG on the highway and right around 24.7 MPG in city if I'm not getting on it. Of course that is under optimal conditions with minimal sitting around at stop lights. I have switched my air filter to a K&N which really makes the engine breathe a lot easier and use Lucas's gas additive every few tanks to keep it running in top shape. Also I put Luca's Oil Stabilizer in when I made my switch to synthetic oil, great product and absolutely no dry starts on the engine parts which will surely add to the longevity of my Genny.

Wishing all the best to my fellow Genesis owners....it's truly one finely crafted car and I cant wait to see how the Equus does on the US market :)

I definitely put 19.4 gallons of gas in my tank today.

I average 19 mpg in my six cylinder Ford Taurus, on it's way out!!!
Trading up to a Genesis soon, hopefully 5.0 if I can wait

I'm reminded of a story my father told about a friend who had purchased a new car and bragged at great length about the terrific mileage he was getting. In fact, as time went by his mileage got better and better. Seems his buddies were sneaking by under cover of darkness and adding gas to his tank every couple of days...:D:D

Can I be their friend?

Since this prank was pulled in the 1940's I don't think any of them are likely to be still sneaking around at night, at least not in the flesh...

Went 514 miles again- same # from original posting- took 17.96 gal averaged 28.62 from I-90 OH/PA line to Springfield,MA yesterday

Did a simple 250mile stint yesterday...<1/2 tank.

computer showed 30.2mpg (cruise set at 75-80mph whole time).....

I can't hardly believe these numbers. I have a 3.8 with 15,300 miles on it. ONCE I average 26.5 mpg, on flat highways, and most of the time with the cruise on 80 mph and the tires at 33 lbs of pressure, I will get 24 mpg by my measure, and 24.5 by the car computer.

And this isn't only once, but every time. There are people claiming their V-8's are doing better.

Hmm. Either I have lead foot cruise control, or the roads are a lot smoother up north.

Just wondering out loud. I do get around 19.5 mpg around town.

I usually make it just over 400 miles when on pure highway before it get down to 50 miles range left, and that's when I start looking for gas in earnest.
