  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How far on a tank of gas?

sooththetruth- you should be getting better mileage- level roads, non-mountainous- you should get 28-30 mpg. I am pushing 30K on the odometer and city/hwy average over last 20K miles has be 24.78 MPG.

To new to comment on how many miles per tank full. Question, what fuel grade is everyone using in their 4.6? Just curious if there is a consensus premium vs regular or even mid?

discussed elsewhere (search threads for fuel type) but seems a mix of grades are used... I found 93 without corn gives the best results ... hard to find but nice when I can...

Best tank = 459.3 mi (26.7 mpg)
Worst tank = 264.1 mi (15.2 mpg)

After 20K of driving and 58 fill-ups, I'm averaging 19.9 mpg, but I've got a lot of in-town mileage in the mix. My biggest fill-up was 18.01 gal, but I don't push much beyond the low fuel light, which typically cuts on around 17.0-17.2 gal for me.

This is the question... How far have you traveled on a tank of gas?

I raise this because today coming back from Florida I hit 500 miles on a tank for the first time.

502 miles on 18.5 gallons , trip comp said I had 42 miles till empty.

Average reported was 29.1 real average 27.1 ....

So how far have you gone on a single tank of gas?
481.1 miles on one tank and put 15.079 gallons in when I filled it so I still had almost 3 gallons left.

I just recently picked up a Mercedes Benz E-350 Bluetec sedan. 3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel. 210 hp and 400 foot pounds of torque. (Awsome power). Performance is on par with V6 Genesis. While not fully broken in , I am regularly getting about 710 miles per tank (mixed city/hwy) and just under 40 mpg on the highway. In other words, I can drive from central Pennsylvania to vist my dad in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on less than two tanks of fuel. Amazing. My worst mpg to date has been 28 mpg in mostly city driving.

It is no wonder the oil companies are keeping the cost of diesel (relative to gasoline) artificially high in the United States. Diesels catching on in the US would be their worst nightmare. The tank holds 21.5 gallons and the most I have added during a fill-up is 20 gallons. The engine is as smooth as silk and as quiet as a church mouse. I would love for Hyundai to offer a turbo diesel for the Genesis.

I thought about the Blu Tech E350 - beautiful car. Your mileage is great. However, per either C & D or R & T testing, the Blu Tech is much slower (7.4 0 - 60) than a 3.8 Genny, due to extra weight and gearing. Also, the best lease deal on a Blu Tech is at least $150 - 200 month more than a Genny, which kills the savings from better mileage.

Mercedes, which is generally very conservative, says 6.8 seconds 0-60. Prior blutecs in the E's have been in the low to mid 6's. Byt the seat of the pants, 400 foot punds of torque sure feels faster than a v6 Genesis. It is amazing to me that a diesel can even be in the ball park with a goas car, and it produces far less greenhouse gases tha a comparable gas engine. If it is slower, I sure can't tell. I think I did read a "first look" somewher where they only got 7.2 sec 0-60...still plenty quick for me. By my own crude stop watch, I am pretty sure I am a bit below 7 seconds, but, what's a couple tenths of a second when not on a track? for a 3 litre engine, it is damn impressive, and actually produces more torque than the E550. A 4500 RPM redline may turn some off, but, for me and my driving style it sdoes not bother me. It does make one smile to realize that you are in a car as large as an E that is getting better mpg than a Honda Fit. I have a long daily commute (100+ miles round trip) I have gone from purchasing two tanks of gas a week to one tank of diesel every 9 days. A savings of over $200/month for me on fuel, so it really is a wash for me. I wish Hyundai would slip one of their diesels into the Genesis and give me a call...I will pick it up right away.

You also want to avoid the pump sucking up sediment when the fuel level gets too low. At least that's what the service manager told me when I bought my first fuel injected car, '81 Saab 900.

that service manager has never seen a fuel system. the pump sits at the bottom of the tank with a sock to keep stuff out and nothing should be floating on gasoline. but you should fill up before it starts sucking air cause it's bad for the pump to cavitate.
