How soon before the "new" Genesis models depreciate?

I picked up my 2013 CPO Base Model with 27k miles for around $21,000 last summer. Wondering how long we'd have to wait to see the 2015-Whenever model Genesis cars depreciate to that level. It's obviously a complex question based on market conditions. I'm just wondering if the Genesis is still flying under the radar so to speak as a great luxury value. How long before a 2015+ Genesis that stickers at $60k+ goes for a price in the mid 20k range?

After about 2 or 3 more years in say 2017 or 2018 I'd like to pick up a 2015 or 2016 CPO Genesis. By that time I should be approaching 100k on my powertrain and it will be time to let the ol' girl go.

Since the 2015 was a total remodel. They most likely wont drop that low until after the mid cycle refresh. Prolly around 2019 or so.

Right now a lease is a pretty good option on a new Genesis.. You just gotta be prepared to turn it in at the end of the term.

Not to sound rude. But who cares. The new gen is fugly IMHO. They don't look as classy or sporty. They just look like any other car.

New one is sick. And they are on the used market right now for about 35K. So looks like late 2016 you should be able to find a decent one for 25K. I cant wait lol

I just saw a 2015 3.8 w/tech with 10K miles at my local Carmax for $38K. MSRP is about $46,500. I'm not in the market, but it looks pretty nice. I prefer the styling of the pre-2015's, though.

I agree with the mid cycle refresh comment or until the new R spec come out, which will probably be at the same time. I am thinking 2018, if it coincides with the first generation's life cycle. That new R spec better not have that big a$$ grille or I will wait for Generation 3.

First model year of a generation has the most issues and least amount of features when compared to the later years in the same generation. This is a general rule of thumb for any car and historically correct for the Genesis.

The real one you want to wait to depreciate is the 2017 or 2018 Genesis. All the issues will be worked out and optional packages/features will now be standard equipment.

I was thinking that way too actually. But if I'm at 100k on my current Genesis and Hyundai is offering good deals with the CPO warranty on the new models it's tempting. Or maybe it's time for an Equis.

It usually takes a year or two for a cars new look to grow on me but for now I have to agree. Our generation is way more classy/sporty looking. After I bought the Genesis one of the supervisors at work was like "I see you got a new car, what is it?" then I told him and he's like "Man, that thing looks like a Mercedes".

Well.... it kind of is the Asian copy of a Mercedes and several other European cars. But with higher reliability and a much better warranty

Not too long, these cars loose their value mega fast.
Give it a couple years and you'll be able to find another low mileage base rental in a similar situation as your current one. I'm in that boat as well.

Exactly I get the same. I get asked if it's a BMW or Mercedes. And I have had 2 people ask if it was a new Bentley. Though I think that was partly due to the wing badges. It's just such a clean classy design. Sporty and aggressive while still being very classy.

I have a 2010 which is a great car but the 2015+ is several notches better in just about every regard. The first generation cars fit the Lexus mold of obscurity as there isn't anything particularly outstanding or noticeable about its styling. It's handsome if bland and incredibly comfortable but the new car is better without a question. The 2015's have a massive amount of presence based on the ones I've seen on the road so far.

My prescription is just fine. I'll stick with the classic good lines of the first generation, over the cross between a Ford Fusion and Chrysler the second generation is saddled with. Not to mention the features left out of the 2nd gen model.

If the second generation Genesis looked like this Buick Concept, I would have been all over it. It's a clean design like the first generation. This is the direction that Hyundai should have taken in my opinion.

Meh. I drove the 15 and it's very nice, but I prefer the styling of the first generation.
