  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My dealer here in Seattle called me today and offered me a titanium gray/black interior V8 with tech package he is receiving next week.

I reminded him that this was not the color combination I wanted but he made the point that the dealership can not order specific combinations but get assigned vehicles.

I thought I read somewhere on this forum that for this model Hyundai changed that policy and does allow dealers to put in orders for specific cars. The dealer should like this idea as well since the buy is guaranteed.

How do I get the combination I am looking for in Seattle? I am not in a hurry and don't want to pay a novelty bonus but I want exactly this combination.

Cheers

Thomas

I to want a specific color combination...I simply told the sales person what I wanted and she put in the order for me...However, I have not gotten my car yet. But, I have been told that it should be here by the end of the month. The bottom line is that they had no problem ordering the car exactly as I wanted...Hope this helps!

"Ordering" is getting somewhat misunderstood, viz-a-viz ordering a car from Detroit. If you "order" a Genesis from the Hyundai sales office, they merely transmit that as a request to the region office which "allocates" the cars as they come off the boat. If the person doing the "allocating" has no other guidance, they take the list of say 100 cars, and send them out, say 4 each to 25 dealers. If they know, in advance, that Seattle needs a Blk/Blk V8, and they happen to have one on the dock, they send it to Seattle. Once the cars are delivered to a dealer, you are limited to waiting for the "next boat", or having the dealer work within his region to locate what you want at another dealer, and work out a deal to do a swap.

You are not getting an order sent to Korea to have "your car" made for you. You may indeed run into the situation where three dealers "order" a Blk/Blk V8 and there are only two on the dock. How the "allocater" deals with that, I have no idea, but someone is going to be very disappointed.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Hmm, I grew up in Germany and that is not the way you buy a car there. You order what you want and you get exactly what you want in a certain amount of time.

I am happy to adjust if someone could provide advice how ro best proceed. Should I ask the dealer to put in a request to the regional office? Is there a central place where I could locate the car I am looking for and talk to them directly?

Cheers

Thomas

Thomas, there are no perfect national search tools that I'm aware of, but "cars.com" lets you specify the colors you're looking for and search based upon a set # of miles from your home zip. The main problem I've encountered is that many of the Hyundai dealers are failing to put the specifics in their listing other than the VIN or stock number, which is somewhat frustrating.

If you find the exact car you're looking for, it may be quite some distance away but you can contact the dealer by email or phone and cut a deal. Then, have the car shipped or (better yet) go pick it up and enjoy your first road trip!

If as Ric says Genesis are produced to a predetermined build schedule then matched up to dealer orders at port of entry, then your odds of getting a certain color and option combination depend on how popular *they* think your choice will be...

There are 120 order combinations for the Genesis.
- 2 engine options
- 8 colors
- 20 combinations based on up 3 different interior trims (3 colors have restricted trim options)
- 4 option packages for the V6
- 2 versions of the V8 (tech/non-tech)

So if they ship the US 1,500 cars a month that averages only 12 cars for each configuration, with some being more numerous than others.

Err Thomas, can't believe we missed this one earlier.

According to the website configurator the platinum silver is not available with saddle brown interior. It only comes in black or beige. You can get the titanium silver with saddle/brown...

Saddle brown is not available on the champaigne, sterling silver and platinum silver cars.

Most dealers want to move what they have on the floor as it costs them money to sit on vehicles and they might misrepresent the facts based upon that information...

However, if you have access to a fleet manager... they will contact the fleet managers at the other dealers across the country and either trade or buy exactly what you want. Unfortunately you cant just walk in the dealership and ask to speak to this person. I was lucky in that my step mothers brother owns a company that leases many cars per year for the company and was able to have access to this service.

If you dont have access to that service, try a leasing agent... or many credit unions offer car buying services that I believe do about the same as the above. My credit union uses autoland.com

I know that a fleet manager prices cars based on invoice rather than msrp, and am pretty sure that the credit unions do as well... which is another benefit.

Hope this helps.
